My partner and I attended a friend's wedding at the Elizabethan lodge recently. On arrival the receptionist was very helpful and friendly, making the check-in fast and easy. However, as soon as we got to our room we were shocked! Whilst being advertised as a 4 star motel, the quality of our room was 1 star at best. To make mention of a few flaws; the walls had patched up holes, the carpet was extremely outdated, and we found multiple cockroaches throughout the expanse. Hoping that things would improve, we headed to a small bar/restaurant area for the 'pre-dinner drinks'. Once again, the experience was less than ideal. There was only one person serving drinks, to a group of at least 80 people — hence, my partner and I had to wait an awfully long time to be served (yes — to be served two wine glasses with lipstick stains on them! ). Once the reception commenced we were directed to a different part of the venue. The set up was quite nice, although, there was minimal room to move between certain tables as they were so close together. The waiting staff were very nice and accommodating, for the most part. However, there was an older man who worked behind the bar, who was dressed very inappropriately, and was constantly staring at guests in an unpleasant manner. In terms of the food, it was quite average. Meal sizes were small, and the plates were quite dirty. Dessert was the low point, as most tables were served ice cream that had already melted. Drinks service, on the other hand, was terrific. The waiting team were constantly making sure we had enough drinks on the table. Nearing the end of the night I found it appalling that the barman was putting away glasses straight from the tables. Whilst some may have been clean and unused, this is a risk that should not be taken, and it displayed an immense lack of care or concern for the guests. Following the wedding reception we headed back to our room. During the night we were in need of assistance, so we headed to reception. The reception was not manned, so we were unable to get help. Once again, information online states that the Elizabethan Lodge is a '24 hour operated motel' but this is clearly not the case.
