Excellent meals, excellent service.
Well done to the Chef and the staff.

The bistro area has been painted, floors replaced and overall a welcoming space is present. On this occasion we had a large group to dinner (20 people — 8 children). Staff were polite, accommodating and able to meet all our needs. The playground is a great feature. Meals were all on point and there were no complaints or mix ups. Although we all ordered and paid for meals separately, they all came out together and in a timely fashion.

Meal was very good but very disappointed when charged $2 for 2 takeaway containers after spending at least $150 on food and drinks and to top it off another person at our table asked for a container and went to pay for it and was told not to worry about it otherwise had a good night.

Headed in for lunch and a beer with the other half and son. We found the staff to be friendly. Ordered lunch specials; hamburger and a steak. Hubby's steak was perfectly cooked, as was my burger, the side of chips were probably the best hot chips I've ever eaten. Beers were good (hubby said they could've been colder but he likes his beers as close to frozen as you can get) Overall very happy with our experience. Will def. We found hotel really great. The staff friendly and helpful. Meals were fabulous, our rooms and beds were great. Bathrooms hv had a revamp. We hv stayed twice here now. Tks.

Went there for breakfast today. Had a nice greeting at the door by the cleaner.
Chose a selection from the hot box and sat down. The food tasted nice, although it would have been nicer if it had been hot and not stone cold.
Ended up having toast and tea for $15!

On the way back to emerald from Rockhampton called into the Blackwater hotel for the first and the last time. I am a chef by trade overseeing the operations of a successful bistro one town over. I honestly was really embarrassed for the establishment. The owners need to have a long hard look at their catering department. Upon trying to order a meal, the first 3 items we tried to order were unavailable, this is from a menu that has roughly 30 items if that. We settled on their crumbed fish and house made chicken kiev. If something is advertised on the menu as being done in house it bloody well should be DONE IN HOUSE. The kiev was out of a carton deep fried then microwaved to ensure it was cooked then the garlic butter tipped over the top. The mesculin leaves in the salad were yellowing with leaves that had gone completly to slime. The cucumber wedges were that old they aswell had gone from crunchy to translucent and slimey and that was just the kiev meal. The fish meals salad was in the exact sad state as mine with the fish itself being cooked into dark brown logs. Honestly I think Blackwater deserves better, and the 40 something price tag for the meals for product that blatently comes in the back door in cartons frozen and is dropped into a deep fryer until it floats is a joke. Honestly just wow. At least the beer was cold and the kiwi bar maid in the front bar was nice.

What a dive! The free Wifi is via phone line and even then it dose not work. The rooms smell like smoke and have a great view of the garage bins. Can’t even be bothered to put toilet paper in the holder — just on top. The floor has more give then the bed. Know this is the old part but come on.

Room and appliances and carpets are very old and dirty. The mini fridge is gross as is the kettle. Rude staff. No microwave. Mattress old and hard but towels and linen clean.

Nice place cold beer friendly.

If there is a working group there the meals are slow and very average. I am very disappointed. There is no value for money.

I think the room was over priced, floor was black and gritty the mattress was hard.

Have stayed a few times and its been fine however make sure you dont check in after hours. As even if you organised to check in after hours you will end up stuck in town with no room and have to sleep in your car and then not get any apology from the employees in the morning when you finally can check in.

Love the Moroccan chicken burgers.

Would like to thank the blackwater hotel staff in particular paula from the restaurant and the chef such wonderful meals and they go above and beyond to cater for ur needs myself my daughter and my parents were there today for there 33rd wedding anniversary and we couldnt have asked for such better service from paula n the chef even had the privilege of the chef giving us a special treat thank u so so much u truly made the day special 100% recommend.

Best food in central qld, great staff and the new room are great well worth a break at this hotel.

Blackwater Hotel is a great pub. Locals call it the 'Top Pub' because it is up top end of town, but it is literally a Top Pub. Good Food in Bistro. Friday night was a blast with DJ / Karaoke. Beer was really good also. I was by myself, but if wife and kids came on next trip they would also be well catered for, play stations, games area etc. Look forward to next trip and one of those surf n turf steaks.
