Cancelled the accommodation at last minute despite booking over a month ago. No excuse just said unavailable — BEWARE.

I’ve been waiting on a refund since March last year. I’ve called and left messages as there’s no direct line just a automated voicemail system. Sent direct messages and emailed. Don’t book here. They’ll just steal your money.

I have been waiting for a refund on my accommodation since July this year because they could no longer accommodate me. I have made several attempts to contact them with no response. I’m now out of pocket over $200 and left with no accommodation. It’s not good enough.

Would not recommend at all. We paid extra for 2 single beds got into the room and it was just one big bed, when we told the concierge they offered us a trundle. After saying no we want what we paid for we were then given another room. The pillows smelt like BO and the air conditioning leaked all into my friends bag so all her clothes were wet. For the price it’s a terrible place.

Don’t stay here or any accommodation in their group. I have been out of the property for nearly 3 weeks and am still waiting on a refund of $250. The team is unhelpful and everyone blames each other. No one knows what they are doing. Very disappointed!

My wife and I are currently in isolation after having tested positive to CoVid19. We are being taken care of by staff from RPA and as much as we appreciate the care and attention, truth be told, we’d rather be somewhere else. We’re really looking forward to being home again.

Lovely rooms unusual design love it well positioned right in the middle of town.

The location was good for accessing the Enmore Theatre and the room was clean. However, we paid for a room with a queen bed and we were given a double bed that my husband was too tall for. The pillows were also pretty bad.

Friendly staff, free mini bar offered, room 501 was great with a rooftop patio, perfect location, nice inclusions like free fruit, chocolate, tea a d coffee in foyer. Room was a little hard to cool with one aircon so main bedroom was hot, and area ouside rooms was a bit creepy with huge drop in middle with rusty stuff hanging but other than that we really enjoyed our stay. Would stay again.

Awesome hotel — my boyfriend and I stayed for the week from Melbourne, we booked last minute after a bad experience with an Airbnb. So glad we chose to stay here.

Customer service / staff are so friendly easy to talk to and communicate with; especially one of the boys, didn’t catch his name he was fantastic (had an accent and loved Kath & Kim).
The room was basic but really lovely, spacious and nice views every morning and night. Had everything you need, little bathroom, tv, small kitchen, comfy bed and space. We were on level 4 — front corner and it was perfect. Nice hipster vibe to it — beautiful garden in the centre of the building.
Cool little food/drink bar available — tea, coffee, fruit, chocolate.
Housekeeping each day to come and make sure you don’t need anything.
Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here. It ticked all our boxes and was definitely decently priced.

Great place to stay in Newtown. Staff awesome and the rooms lovely. Close to the Enmore Theatre with many different types of eateries nearby. We will be back!

Nice place very close to train station. And bars etc.

We found our unit to be reasonably well appointed and in a great location. However it was grubby, with dirty marks on the doona and a blood stain on one of the pillows. The floor was that dirty that it was sticky. We also had an incident were other guests entered our room 11.30 pm, just as we were settling down for the night, which should not be able to happen. The response from management so far has been "oh we're sorry". Not really good enough after such a breach of security and trust.

Visited with my sister and we shared a spacious room with two single beds. The hotel is within close walking distance to all that Newtown has to offer. It has a great industrial vibe and rooms are quiet; have very high ceilings; windows which actually open; very comfy beds; clean newly appointed bathrooms and a very good kitchenette. Rooms open to an open central courtyard rather than the usual impersonal dark enclosed hallway, and there are hanging and large plants, some seating… and a built-in sprinkler system which waters the hanging garden daily. Lovely to sit outside the room and to see the sky from this garden area! Staff at the front desk were super helpful and friendly. The breakfast/snack area beside the foyer liftwell is an added bonus. I’ll definitely recommend this fabulous accommodation.

Friendly and courteous customer service when we arrived. Got a free minibar for booking directly. Clean, trendy room. It is quite noisy, but we expected that considering the busy area. We also had a bit of trouble finding a park so I would recommend booking with the hotel in advance. Great location and proximity to the Enmore Theatre. No complaints whatsoever, and I would stay here again if I needed to be in Newtown. Note: Bit of a pet peeve but to be honest, two single beds pushed together does not a king bed make. Would be good if you could know if a bed was a whole bed or 2 pushed together.

Perfect stay at The Urban. Excellent amenities and a great location. I stayed for one night in transit from Auckland to the USA and found the location a perfect balance between being close to the airport and in the heart of Sydney. Although it’s not guaranteed, the staff were able to accommodate an early check-in, which was a great bonus. If you are a light sleeper, I’d recommend asking for a room away from the street, but they provide earplugs just in case. The toiletries and room amenities (minibar, fridge, cutlery, etc) were of high quality, making for an overall very comfortable stay.

Good customer service. Showers are good. Rooms are a good size, nothing fancy but adequate and the room service ladies are excellent. Love the location. I booked direct through the website because it said (and millions of signs all through the hotel also said) that you get a free mini bar in the room when you book direct. You don’t get anything like the picture in the advertisement. There is a free selection of fruit, tea, coffee and pastries in reception, which everyone can help themselves to regardless of how you booked. Don’t get me wrong, that’s fabulous — but the false advertising grated a little bit.

Stayed a week here and loved it. Great location, staff and room. Kitchenette allowed us to cook a few meals — downside though — fewer opportunities to dine out in fabulous Newtown! Staff were wonderful — helpful, happy, hospitable. Love the focus on supporting local businesses and social justice initiatives — and the complimentary fruit in the lobby! Highly recommended and would return to Sydney — just to stay at The Urban Newtown! Cheers Mark and Maria.

I loved this place! The room was great with a king bed, bunks, kitchenette and bathroom. A really groovy vibe with exposed concrete, internal courtyard and lots of perks like fresh fruit for guests in the foyer. We felt very spoilt. I would recommend booking a car spot ahead as parking is limited & no place to pull over out the front to check in (need to park around the corner). Best position with restaurants at your doorstep :)

Really great accommodation. Comfy beds, well appointed rooms, nice tea and coffee in the rooms. Plenty of fresh fruit and baked goods for the guests in the lobby. The staff were really helpful and welcoming as well as keen to help with parking and local advice.

Any accommodation can have the best rooms and it can be in any place around Newtown however, Urban Newtown has definitely made an impact on us because of the quality of customer service by Brian. Went to spend our long weekend here during the Queen’s bday and we went back again to stay the following weekend because that was how much we enjoyed our stay! Brian definitely made our trip memorable. His friendliness is genuine, his energy is positive and he just gives out such a warm welcome that would surpass your expectations. It wasn’t the same as the other staff there (although they are all friendly) and I would really like to extend my sincerest thanks to him. It felt like home coming back to this place and I never thought I would feel that for a hotel accommodation. Will definitely come back and look for Brian!

Real funky industrial design merged with modern street art. Close to some awesome restaurants too. Worth a stay just to check out the internal garden.

This place is fantastic. The rooms are well appointed, the bed and bed linen are of very good quality, and the whole hotel is very clean. It is also here that I have had my best showers in my forty-six years; the shower head is very large, and my morning shower is like stepping under a warm waterfall in Paradise. But by far the best feature is the free mini bar, free if you book directly with The Urban, either in person, or dialing their phone number to book, or booking direct on their website. All in all, a fantastic place for a wee holiday.

The Urban Hotel in Newtown is the place to stay for a real authentic inner city vibe. The many iconic graffiti art throughout Newtown is captured in wall paintings in each room. Addresses are supplied so you can find the real street painting. The centre court is a huge open skylight with a grungy feel added to by hanging band instruments. Right in the heart of Newtown on Enmore Rd there’s plenty of fabulous food and entertainment within walking distance and the train is minutes away.

Central location. Cute girl at reception was great and had all the answers to our questions. Fantastic place to stay. The rooms were neat and well sized and stocked. The style of the place was spot on. Love the courtyard and all the plants. Will be back to stay again.

What a little hidden gem in the middle of Newtown, full of charm, cozy and perfectly positioned.
The fresh pastries in the morning and a piece of fruit late at night, or a glass of wine is one very special touch urban put on.
You do get surprised by the enclosed rain forest and it’s a pleasure to admire it from our room.
Only down fall: no parking!

Loved our stay here. Rooms have high ceilings and are spacious. A 5 min walk to Newtown station with frequent trains in to our out of town. A mere 15 minutes from the airport by taxi. Communal areas are simple but stylish. Free basic breakfast available in the lobby. If you are booking here make sure you book direct! Rates are much better and they offer the entire contents of the mini bar free when booking direct. This equates to about $100AUD in value.

Great experience. Clean and tidy rooms with everything that is needed. Great shower heads. Very comfy beds. Super friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient location. Close proximity to RPA which was the reason for our stay. A plethora of foodie delights near the hotel. Will definitely book here for our next visit. Thanks to the great staff for a superb hotel experience.

What a great place for a night or two in Newtown. We went to the Enmore theatre just down the street. Excellent.

Great funky chic hotel in the heart of Newtown. Location is close enough to everything but situated so that it's quiet enough to allow a good night's sleep. Their book direct promotion with free Mini Bar is a fantastic deal. Excellent ensuite and bathroom facilities with rain shower and complete selection of toiletries provided. Would definitely stay there again.

— far too noisy. Constantly woken up by banging doors and noises from the room above and as it’s right under the flight path sleeping in past 5.30am wasn’t an option.
— No space in bathroom to put toiletries so I had to use the floor (which is strange as the bathroom was actually quite large but only had a tiny vanity) Wouldn’t stay here again.

Convenient location if you like the Newtown experience of great variety of eateries and clothing shops of the alternative kind. Handy spot to stay away from the bustle of the city but still close enough to train or bus less then 10 minutes to Central.

Incredibly courteous staff, great room amenities with free mini-bar! You really can't go past this place if you are going to a show at the Enmore since it's a literal stones throw away. A plethora of bars and restaurants within sight, free parking on surrounding back streets and the rustic and interesting design of the place mean it's a given that this is where we will stay whenever we are down that way. Plus the free cakes in the lobby don't hurt ;)

Cool little hotel in heart of Newtown. The location is awesome. Rooms looked small on site but mine was spacious with a decent sized kitchen and sitting area, massive windows that let in a ton of light and breeze. Also, be sure to book direct as they give you everything in the nomination for free (was like 5-6 beers/ciders, bottle of wine and heaps of snacks). Will def stay again.

Great location, friendly staff and good inclusions if you book directly. I found their room service a little scattered, one night I hopped into bed to find the bottom sheet missing, and they just slipped my room on another day. The rooms were cleanish, but could do with a more diligent clean, with the bathroom sink and some tiles a little mouldy. Overall good stay though, so many good things to explore nearby!

What a fab hotel! The staff are super lovely and if you book online you get the minibar free! First time we stayed booked through a website not direct. Loved it so much this time we booked direct and are not disappointed. You get wine and snacks on arrival and anytime you're in the lobby. The location means you're right in the thick of it which is great for us as we come to Sydney for gigs, food and funky shops. The room is the perfect size for us and suits our needs well. The bed is super comfy and the pillows are perfection. It was raining when we were there and the atrium really came alive. The hotel blends the original property with the modern, it's funky but not pretentious. Recommend for travellers who like their stays in Sydney to be rad.

Probably one of my favorite hotels in Sydney. Good price. Good location. Good Vibe. Love the Street Art/Graffiti and greenry mix within premises too. It just screams Newtown cool.

Great location near plenty of restaurants. Rooms were spacious and well stocked. Staff was helpful and friendly.

We were there for four days. The mini bar was consistently not restocked. The room was not made up twice (and inconsistently otherwise, not providing a bath matt one day and not the next, not replacing empty tissue box, and on and on). It was lacking in the little touches that make a hotel comfortable. For example, only one side of the bed had an end table. The TV was so close to the end of the bed that you basically had to go over the bed to get to the other side (not great for your partner in the middle of the night). The staff were nice enough but seemingly apathetic to our concerns. I mentioned that the phone in the room didn't work twice and just responded "okay. " Not "sorry about that" or, "we'll see to getting it fixed, " just "okay. " If you're on a budget, give it a go. If they took some care and increased their attention to detail and customer service, this could be a great property.

Great boutique hotel with cosy rooms. Good location in the heart of Newtown and near the train station. Nice toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc. ) and a well stocked mini bar, which is free of you book through their website. Second time we've stayed and would happily recommend.

Loved it! The rooms are really funky, we also got upgraded to a larger room. The staff are really helpful and friendly — we would highly recommend to anyone looking to have a night out in Newtown! We just need to find an excuse to stay again.

Cute little room with an urban feel though you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend staying more than 1 night though especially if your claustrophobic. The location is great especially if you're catching a gig at the Enmore or having dinner amongst the great restaurants close by.

Great location, very homely and comfortable. Funky design… surprising tropical garden in the centre of the building. Noisy for rooms facing the street but hey they include free earplugs in your room and I did get a good night sleep.

My fiancee and I had a great time here. — The area is nice, not as modern as Brisbane but that's not a bad thing — lots of different type of food around so lots of options — kitchenette stove top, microwave, small fridge and sink so all the basics nessesary to make your own meals. — free mini bar if you book direct (although they don't restock it during your stay). — price is reasonable for what you're getting — has this cool funky atmosphere (see photos)

Comfy bed nice sheets. Very quiet in my room which was nice. Very close to everything. Helpful staff. The rooms were just a bit small and the shower needed to be cleaned. Only one elevator which meant waiting several minutes as well — so a stairwell access would be good if there isn't one already (I didn't see one). Otherwise nice stay.

I was lucky enough to get a room at the last minute after an Airbnb stuff-up. Lucky indeed. The people at the desk were very pleasant and friendly, helpful and efficient, the bed was comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean as well as roomy and well-appointed. I love the industrial decor and hope to stay at the Urban on my next trip to Sydney.

Not great. For the price we paid there are definitely better options in Sydney. It's more 'serviced flats' than hotel. Serviced is pushing it as well as it's not exactly a clean or welcoming place. On top of that I was charged $29.50 for use of the minibar, despite not having used it. When I challenged the charge it took them 7 days to respond. They responded with a receipt asking me to 'review the receipt'. The receipt was actually addressed to someone else and not related to my stay at all. It would have helped if they had reviewed the receipt first before charging my card. They did refund the charge but only after extensive back and forth that shouldn't have happened and wouldn't happen with a properly run hotel. Probably wouldn't stay there again.

UPDATE: Finally, 7 weeks after cancellation, I have received confirmation that my entire payment will be refunded. Interesting that The Urban never saw a cent of it. Thank you to staff who finally answered the phone and helped make arrangements to have my money refunded. I WILL stay at The Urban on my next visit to Sydney!

Great place to stay if you're not going to spend a lot on hotel! Convenient location for bus and meteors, 24/7 shops just nearby and also fast food shops. I enjoyed staying there, have a good sleep and continue the journey afterwards! Btw you can cook in the room as all equipments are provided, you just need to buy the raw materials and cook! Detergents are also included for your use! It is just excellent to me!

Very clean hotel! Receptionist is very kind! The reception was closed when I arrived at about 1.00am. But the receptionist also got up to open the door for us!

I booked this hotel months in advance for a night out in Sydney. I received no booking confirmation so called the hotel 3 weeks in advance who told me I had never made a booking. There was no longer a discounted price on the room so I booked elsewhere. 4 days later I had been charged for the room, told I did have a booking and that I would not be refunded! Bad customer service!

I have traveled extensively over the years for work both here and abroad. I had a break for a while (luckily) and am now having to catch planes weekly again. If you ever have to stay in Sydney do yourself a favor and stay at the Urban. Not only are you out of town and immersed in one of the most culturally diverse areas of Sydney (Enmore Road is home to some fantastic restaurants — all reasonably priced, and some great watering holes), but The Urban has some great little touches like free coffee and muffins/pastries all day round. You no longer feel like you are staying in another CBD of a city but surrounded by the residents of the city as they go about their daily life (And believe me there are some unusual artiistic /creative residents living in the area). If you like shopping in Brunswick/Prahran in Melbourne, Fortitude Valley (James Street) in Brisbane or even Meatpackers in NYC then stay here! This hotel will be on my return list for sure.

Umm pics are obviously fake. Drove up to the hotel and. It was in the most rubbish part of Sydney. And the building was ugly. Nothing like the pics. Look at street view if u dont believe me. I bet these reviews are fake too like the pics. Didn't even stop to check in. There was no place to even Park to go in. Found another.

Good clean room with a huge comfy bed and great bathroom. I was moved from my first room as the door didn't close properly which set the alert alarm off (I thought this was great for security, I've never stayed anywhere before where the door has an alarm when it doesn't close all the way). Anyway it was not a problem, the very friendly and helpful staff quickly arranged for an alternative room where the door was fine. The location is excellent, right in the heart of buzzy Newtown, with loads of greats bars and eateries all within minutes. I got the room for $100 for one night which I thought was excellent value, definitely recommend.

I stayed in the Urban Hotel for 19 days in April 2015 I found the hotel absolutely clean and comfortable the room was spacious and the shower room superb with a powerful shower head The bed linen changed often and room cleaned every day Fridge cooker microwave and tea making facilities I had a room on the front of the building and on a very few occasions I heard the roar of motor bikes moving off from the traffic lights The staff were very helpful knowledgeable and cheery The Urban is central located in Newtown only minutes from the metro and gym Many varied places to eat at reasonable prices The Urban is only a twenty minute walk from Sydney with plenty to see along the way Altogether a wonderful time spent In the Urban and went a long way to enhance my holiday I will be back some day I hope Review from Stirling Scotland.

Wow! I am not easily impressed, particularly given the plethora or ageing, overpriced hotels around town, but The Urban has renewed my faith in the industry offering affordable accommodation, in an excellent location. Convenient and reasonably priced. The clean comfortable bed felt very luxurious. All the amenities provided despite the variety of food and drink options on its doorstep. Easy check in and out. I will definitely stay again.

The Urban Newtown is without a doubt the coolest hotel we have stayed at. Its beautifully design, its fresh, and upbeat with trendy tasteful 'Industrial' theme furnishings. This is our 3rd time that we have had the pleasure of staying at The Urban Newtown. For those, many of us, sick and tired of the same sort of hotel room from the big chains, this is 'The Place' to go. The location cannot be beaten, its location right in the heart of the colourful Newtown. Everything is spotless and no issue with housekeeping. Beds are super comfortable. The staff are always friendly and professional, and go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable 'always'. We will certainly be back for the 4th time, and have will continue recommending to family and friends and work colleagues.

Hi. We had to be moved to a different room as the air conditioning was leaking. When we tried to enter this room after a concert at midnight our security cards failed to work. We had to make a phone call to have someone come out and activate our cards. The room was fine for the price, however we went to book a similar room for a concert in four weeks time and discovered the booking had increased from $168 to $217, more than 25%. I chatted online to see if they could do a bit better by dropping the cost a little but they declined. I told them we'll look elsewhere.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, steps away from the Enmore theatre and modern clean rooms. Perfect place to stay if you want to explore Newtown. Plus free minibar on the weekends.

Had a mini scare when I checked in. The receptionist checked that I booked in for two nights instead of the original booking of three nights. Despite showing him my online booking receipt, he was eminent on giving me a refund knowing I was from out of town and have to rebook myself elsewhere. Eventually he realised a small mishap in the booking entry in the system and gave me the green light to stay three nights. No dramas here but I thought I had to say it. Despite that, the receptionist was rather cool and patient about the whole saga. The service from the various staff throughout my stay was top notch. Room is clean when I got there and cleaned everyday. Good location and I would go back again. Overall the hotel was good. Few things I'd suggest to the hotel management for improvement if possible is 1) Have laundry facilities because the website says so — I know there is a launderette opposite the hotel but it would be handy to use a washing machine after office hours. 2) Clarify what free mini bar in the website means. It wasn't free when I got there.

Really wish I could give zero stars, but rating only goes down to one. Literally the worst hotel experience my wife and I have ever had. Check in was laborious. Arrived at room to find two single beds instead of a king (which we booked). Raised this issue with reception who said they'd fix it while we went for a bite to eat, and we left our belongings in the incorrect room as instructed by reception. Upon returning to reception to get new room keys, we happened to find a couple had just been given keys to the room our belongings were in. Very lucky we turned up when we did! At time of booking via hotel website, we were promised a "Free mini bar package with a selection of locally brewed craft beer and the finest Australian wines". In the bar fridge was one locally brewed beer, and no wine at all. We had to have six separate conversations over the course of several hours before the hotel would even acknowledge this as an issue, and to then very begrudgingly have this rectified. Over the proceeding few days, we had numerous other conversations with the hotel as they refused to replenish our mini bar. They also tried to convince me later that the alcohol was not included in the mini bar package (which is clearly was). I showed them the ad on their website stating the promise that was made at the time of booking, and they flat out denied to honour it stating that they were "very sorry about the discrepancy between their website and their company policy".

On arrival we were advised that the car space we had booked was unavailable as there were cars belonging to persons unknown taking up all of the car spaces in thier 'secure' parking area, so we had to find alternate overnight street parking in Newtown. On getting to our room we found that instead of the King Suite we had paid for we were allocated a twin room with single beds. As the hotel was fully booked we were asked to wait 10 minutes while they pushed the beds together. This took about 30mins and we got to listen to every second person who checked in be told that their pre-booked parking space was no longer available. By way of compensation we were told we could help ourselves to a complimentary bottle of wine from the mini-bar. I mentioned that on the website when I booked it advertised, and still does, "Book now and get your free mini-bar package with a selection of locally brewed craft beer and the finest Australian wines. " We were told that this was an error that had been rasied with management and that only non-alcoholic beverages were included in this 'package'. But we were kindly told that due to the issues we'd had we could help oursleves to anything on the mini-bar list for free. On getting home after our stay I received a receipt for mini-bar expenses charged to my credit card! And still no response to my email requesting explanation for the charges. Very disappointing. I won't be recommending.

Great rooms (new, clean and comfy). Friendly staff, and perfect location.

We stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved it — this is a great place to stay in Sydney, and Newtown is such a unique and fun part of the city. The rooms themselves are simple, but then again they are very reasonably priced and we found the beds both clean and comfortable. In our room we also had a small kitchenette with a range, sink, and microwave. We especially appreciated the extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff, who were helpful and responsive to the few issues we encountered. They started by upgrading our room upon check-in, and then when there was a problem with our room key, they switched rooms and made the mini-bar complimentary. Technical issues like a broken door lock can be fixed, and staffing is far more important and tricky to get right. The hotel is very convenient to public transit (light rail and bus stops are less than five minutes walking). We bought Opal cards and had no issues navigating to where we wanted to go in the city with a minimum of fuss. We would highly recommend the Urban Newtown to anyone looking for an affordable stay in a cool part of Sydney with easy access to other fun neighborhoods.

Urban chic with great staff! Great boutique hotel with fantastic decor and themed rooms in the heart of Newtown. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Rooms are very stylish, immaculate and spacious with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Great location, just 2 minutes from The Enmore Theatre and Newtown train station. Within walking distance to all the cafes, restaurants, bars and shops around Newtown. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.
