Finally! A place in Newcastle that has a play area for kids! The play area was great. They need umbrellas for the tables outside as it's too hot and sunny for sitting and eating outside so you can supervise kids playing. Menu was really basic but service was great.

Great value $10 bacon and egg roll, cooked to order with good quality coffee.

Terrible, curtains falling down, holes in all the walls. Parking is terrible. Staff is clueless. If I could give negative stars I would.

As a place to stay it's terrible! Entry to hotel was down a dark, dingy, smelly alley beside the pub. Rooms are musty and dank — windows either don't open or don't close. Room was only just bigger than the bed. Most rooms have shared bathroom. A few slightly larger ones have ensuites. Bathrooms — both ensuite and shared/communal — haven't been updated since it was built (50s or 60s? ). Totally overpriced for what you get. Saving grace was the breakfast (included in rate), which was quite good. As a pub, meals and drinks were fine.

The property has been refurbished in the bar area, however the rooms are rough, outdated, sparsely furnished and dirty. I booked for 2 nights, No TV reception until the afternoon of the second day. I had to clean the bathroom floor with a towel before I could use it. No bath mat or face cloth provided. Soap only, no complimentary shampoo & cond. Minimal coffee and tea facilities The alleyway to the accommodations is dangerous as it is uneven and consisting of sheets of metal chequer-plate as ramps covered with rubber bar mats. Is situated where light rail works are ongoing for next 2 yrs. Front entrance closed, enter via King St. The staff are friendly and the bar has a very quiet atmosphere.

Aircon is so loud could not get any sleep other wise not bad.

Great place. Food is great too, the complementary breakfast for staying guests is a superb gesture will stay here again…

I hosted a friends 21st here and couldn’t have been happier with everything! The staff were great and let us do everything we needed!

I was so shocked after I paid for the room. We went to room 14 for our first nights holiday. No globes in the lights above our bed paint peeling off wall a great big patch on wall and has not been painted and milk spots on the carpet. It was a shared bathroom broken and cracked tiles chunks of wood nailed to the wall. It was absolutely disgraceful and repairs and loads of tlc are urgently needed. I paid $98 too much for this horrible tiny room and bathroom. Sheets and towells were clean and the bed was made up well. Food was great service was nice as well.

It was nice place just stopped in for 5 minutes when we where shopping for suites on hunter street.

Hired the front room for a function and would never do so again. Bar staff were really great but the manager was pretty rude and uninterested. He kept lying about the air con being broken and refused to get a fan or open a door while we sweated in there, then cut the bar off 20 minutes earlier than we were told at the time of booking. I really don’t think he could have cared less about his customers, and I was very disappointed.

Was not impressed with a dooner between two sheets not in dooner cover. Room smelt and looking out windows on right hand side was filthy. Such a shame.

Reasonable priced rooms with shared facilities. Good fresh pressed linen and sift towels. Good beer selection and food specials. Very quiet mid week.

I had a bday party here last night and hired the large room at the front of the pub. The staff were amazing! They looked after us all night. The food was also great!

Came here for a birthday party event, this place has all the necessary things; decently priced drinks, plenty of space for sitting, dancing, standing and chatting. The staff are lovely and the food was pretty standard, had a good time.

Celebrating a friend's engagement, the hotel was great for this type of event. The finger food was tasty and came out regularly. Quick service at the bar and plenty of room for everyone.

Love the pizza's. Three little pigs pizza is my favourite.

A place quite popular among the young people. Atmosphere was cool and the pizzas delicious.

I had a very nice stay at the Oriental. Although my stay was only short I had a wonderful time meeting some of the staff and enjoyed the Pizza they serve. All in all a pleasant experience filled with nice people. Thank you!

Nice local. If you like raw, local music. Check out the artists on Friday and sat nights over a oven cooked pizza. And a craft cider. Does get busy with not a lot of seating in the main bar… so expect to stand. Friendly, young relaxed bar staff pouring brews.

Our booking was missing — however the staff managed to find us another room. The double bed was 2 single beds pushed together.

The rooms, halls and lobby were clean and well presented. Beautiful apartments. The staff were welcoming, polite and very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Rooms were nice and spa was great in the morning. Negative rating because not only were we not advised about the $200 extra dollars you had to pay in bond on arrival when we booked, 9 days later we still havent received it back. No reason given, and no money was subtracted from bond for damages or anything like that, apparently its still "on its way" This wouldnt be such an issue but the staff seem pretty unwillingly to help, of the three ladies I spoke with only 1 seemed to offer a sincere apology, surely there is an easier system.

Food was good and fair price, service was great with nice staff and short wait times for food.

Had dinner and stayed overnight. Food was lovely, very cozy pub food. All the staff were polite and friendly, especially bespectacled barman who also took my reservation for a room. Stayed in the corner room on the top floor, it was incredible. Full sized room the likes you find in a home, brand new bathroom and carpets. Sitting area, period fireplace, big flatscreen, comfy bed. Ocean breeze and huge windows bringing in sun and a view up The Hill towards cathedral and co. Thanks for having me! Will return.

First to order out of our group of 9 and yet I had to wait over an hour for my meal, which finally showed up over half an hour after the rest of the group's. The restaurant was basically empty, so they can hardly use being busy as an excuse. Not at all impressed with the kitchen's complete lack of organisation. Absolutely no rush or effort put in to get my meal out quickly from the kitchen, not happy.

Today myself and probably 10 adults and a dozen kids under 4 yrs, we were so disgusted in the service of your bistro. We were the first to order promptly at 12.00
Still at 2 pm the last 2 meals came out 3/4 hour after everyone's else.
By 2.10 I asked where do I find out about the kids ice cream. I was narly told there is a very long wait. I said for ice cream you don't cook that. We had many people come in a long time after us and they had meals before us. I explained we all had school runs to do. You just lost yourselves 100s of dollars today as we will never be back.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL, THE MANAGER IS A KNOWN CRIMINAL, HE WILL ATTEMPT TO RIP YOU OFF OR WORSE Don't stay here, under pain of death do not step foot inside this hotel, if you consider doing so punch yourself squarely in the face. The manager is a known thief and con man, apparently well known throughout the Newcastle district, he would only take a cash payment but put my cc details down anyway The hotel rooms are atrocious, blood stains, mouldy air con, grimy bed linen, no facilities in the room. I was suspect when I arrived but it was late and needed a room, he would not let me inspect the rooms before I paid, I walked into my room and straight back out, demanded a refund and he immediately called the police saying I was threatening him with his life, and acting violently, apparently in front of my wife and two children The police arrived and after he talked to me and the manager, I got my money back thankfully, credit card cancelled immediately. The final straw, the manager then called me on my mobile and threatened to have the local chapter of bikies come round to my house and beat the money out of me. This was probably all smoke and puff but it shows the mentality of the person you're dealing with if you chose to stay here.

Shit customer service. Every time I call them, the staff seemed annoyed that I did and I haven't even stayed in the hotel yet!

You get exactly what you pay for, and a bit more here. Staff are great, rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable and in a handy location to everything in town. The food is great and well priced for anyone on a budget. If you're looking for a place to put your head down without costing a fortune this is ideal, unlike budget accommodations, this has everything you need, meeting areas for friends and business, bistro, bar, entertainment and pokies too. Will stay here again.

Hotel holiday, beds in a bad condition and small rooms, in addition to charge deposit surprises when you arrive at the hotel of $ 100 if you break something, as if we were all about drunk, in order to bad choice if you travel and go through new castle, especially on a weekend.

Absolutely love this place. Perfect venue for weekday lunches especially. The staff are friendly & helpful and the food is great. Thumbs up! :)

Someone should shut this place down totally disgusting.

This place has the most rude staff I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Staff that do not value their customer or their work. I have been lied and cheated by the staff on room costs and was insulted by the level of uninterest by the management. The price of the room raised in price from the over the phone quote by 20 dollars and no staff or management could take responsibility for the lies told to me over the phone. Avoid this place like the plague. Just another example of a business that doesn't deserve to stay afloat. Two thumbs down. Very sad to see.
