Amazing staff. Could not do more! Zane, Sophie and Lynette went above and beyond. Only critic was food was absolutely delicious but portion sizes were small for price! If bigger portion size for price would give 10/10

Do not recommend this pub. Served drinks in a jug labled " use for plants only". When taken back staff member they rolled their eyes when asked for new jug. Food was very average and the burger came with raw chicken in the middle. Husband spent all night vomiting from food poisoning. Should of know better when I saw kitchen staff throwing food at each other when ordering. Do your self a favour and go elsewhere to eat and drink.

Fantastic gluten free menu. Seperate dietary menu.
I had beer battered fish, sweet potato chips and salad.
The batter was light and super crunchy and the fish moist and perfect.
Good job chefs. 5 stars from me ✅

Nice pub for lunch when on holidays. Good service. Like the lunchtime music. All round enjoyable.

Visiting family through the week and had dinner on Thursday night. Meal was great with the waitress giving me double salad as a surprise when I said no chips please. Had a great night and the barman was very helpful and accommodating. Great work! We will be back!

Food here was incredible! A whole separate dedicated vegan menu was such a wonderful surprise. Presentation was great. Even the kids meal was quite impressive. Would 100% recommend, particularly if you’re staying at Reflections which is just across the road.

If you love a good cheeseburger then get yourself there! One of the best I’ve ever had! So much love and care put into their food! Quick service, great staff and the drinks are more than reasonably priced. Next time I’m back in town, I will definitely return for more cold ones and that cheeseburger fix.

The food here is unbelievably good — chef knows his stuff and takes great care unlike a lot of similar places. Staff are friendly and helpful — I’ll definitely be back for a feed and a couple of quiet ones next time I’m in town.

Easily the best feed in Evans, I eat there at least once a week now the regular menu is fabulous, and the specials never disappoint. Professional friendly staff, and a warm family atmosphere. I've been to the other choices in town, but neither come close to the Wong. Keep it up guys!

Best country pub. So many changes since I was a baby, but will always be an inviting place to come for families and the public.

Staff very friendly bought sum milk before we called in and popped it in the fridge while we had a drink, great spot.

We had a function at the Illawong last night and to put it politely the service was pathetic!
2 guys serving in the bar would be the worst barmen I have ever come across too busy trying to be cool then attending to customers. When there were 25-30 of us out in the main bar 6 of us waiting to be served whilst the these 2 would glance out and see us waiting would walk the other way.
Very disappointing to come back to what used to be a pub where you could get a beer a smile and a thanks but last night all you could get was "yeah" and no smile. Perhaps they didn't want to be there!

First time visiter to Evans Head :), came here to visit a friend who is here on a working Visa :).
Didn't know what to expect cause I found this place on trip advisor and it had 3 reviews. A negative 1 star reveiw, a semi bad review and a pleasant review. In all honestly I'm more than happy with my 5 star review cause there is nothing to fault with this place… I'm thinking that the previous reviewers might be used to the 4 star luxury pub hotels back home in their respect…ed citys lol! If anyone can find a fault with this 2 star hotel with a single room bed for 1 person with shared bathroom for $27 a night — to a double 2 person room with private bathroom and shower and balcony for $88 a night, pleasd do so. But keep in mind that this is a small town between Grafton & Ballina and that your staying at Pub Hotel not just a hotel :)! The Bistro had delicous food here aswell, had the fishermans basket myself and was pleased with the outdoor seating area where you could sit down and chill out with a cold beer with the locals :), and everyone says Hello or how are you over here. A bit like Europe. Am just suprised cause you don't get that from many Sydney siders lol. All in all I loved my stayed here at Hotel Illawong and on my next visit I won't be staying anywhere else but here :)!

Stopped in for lunch. What a gem! Fantastic squid and soft shell Crab. Catered for gluten free. Beautiful. Massive tender steak and ripper stone and wood battered fish. Will be back!
