Maviss Cabins @ Mt Warning

From the start we couldn't get in — the main door had expanded from dampness and wouldn't open. We luckily found a side door that would open. No staff on site for our entire stay.
On the second day we were caught in a storm and soaked through. We were cold so lit a gas fire.
After a while an alarm went off. It stopped after a minute or so.
It went off again and we put it down to a fault.
There were obviously problems with the electrics in the property — the outside lights for example wouldn't switch off.
The alarm went off in the night and woke us up.
It carried on for ten minutes or more, with lights flashing and the main lights in the common area also flashing on and off.
I believe It is a carbon monoxide alarm and the gas fire isn't correctly ventilated.
Attempts to contact the property owners were unsuccessful and so we left after two nights although we had paid for three.
Apart from not wanting another nights sleep interrupted I believe there was a build up of carbon monoxide making it highly dangerous.
The owners didn't respond until late afternoon that day. They refused to refund the cost of the night's stay we lost and deny there is a problem.
I reported the problem to booking. Com who tried to contact the owners but after four days the owners failed to respond to their phone calls or emails. Booking. Com have given us a refund themselves of a third of the cost of the lost night as a goodwill gesture.

We had a lovely stay in the Snug cabin. Very relaxing and the creek is beautiful to refresh yourself in.

We have had several meals at Mavis over the years and thoroughly enjoyed them. Was very disappointed to see the restuarant has closed. Was planning to go there for a friend's 70th.

Rooms and location are excellent, but downside was air-conditioning didn't work, internet didn't work, all TV's didn't work, bath water was yellow, no milk in fridge, cockroachs in bathroom, smelled inside of old sour wood. Unless you don't mind those downsides… probably wouldn't recommend.

My lovely lady and I stayed in The Old Dairy cabin and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Finding that we were the only ones on the whole property added to the adventure and to the serene feeling of wandering around with a glass or two of wine after a hilarious shower in the old dairy bathroom. You certainly deserve accolades for what you have succeeded in doing with your property. We will certainly be back. Your gardens, grassed area, and birds are just so peaceful, and the view to Mt Warning never fails to stir my soul after being born in town, and now living at sea on my yacht some 71 years ago. Did I mention, we will be back…

Not getting any response to both email addresses on the website. No one answers the phone either. Previous reviews say the restaurant has closed. Not sure what I’m meant to do with the gift voucher we were given.

Recently spent the weekend for a friend’s wedding. Location is great, very scenic. The cabins are private and quiet. The best part though are the team that work there. All are very friendly and helpful. The main person we dealt with was Sharon, or “Shaz” as we came to know her, was just a sweetheart! Would love to come back.

We had a wonderful weekend in Uki and Murwillumbah staying in the Secret Cabin at Mavis’s.
Comfortable accommodation with beautiful views, it was the perfect getaway for a couple.
Dirt road to the cabin was a little hairy in the rain and I’m glad we were in an SUV.
Looking forward to another stay in the future.

We stayed 2 nights in the Old Dairy when travelling the scenic rim — great accommodation with good kitchen facilities, wonderful site — v quiet when we were there, great garden with wonderful citrus.
I recommend the Old Dairy for a couple.

We stayed one night in the log cabin with our dog Archie. I was wooed by the pictures when booking but I must confess, I didn’t read the reviews! The small lake is gorgeous. We really enjoyed the view. The cabin is generally fine. It could do with a clean. Lots of cobwebs. Had to wash the wine glasses and plates before using. We had just come from another property with a compost toilet so that didn’t bother us so much. Although there weren’t any flies coming out of the previous one. The main issue we had with the cabin was that it needs some love and attention. The windows and doors were difficult to close and they needed to be shut to keep out the noise. You wouldn’t want to be staying when there’s a large group in the other cabin because you would hear everything. Oh and there’s a traffic stop directly outside the property next to the cabin so you can hear every car that stops to wait for the lights to change. Not ideal.

Place overall is nice when it comes to location and there’s potential but unfortunately it wasn’t as I expected. The Log Cabin isn’t as amazing as it shows in the photos. It is surely dangerous on that room for kids or elderly and disabled people. Place smells and my allergy was surely triggered there, bathroom needs and upgrade they need to get rid of the smell and flies. We need to talk about how scary it is if you go on week day. No one was there, no restaurant open, nothing. 🫣 I left after 3h there. It was a nice drive from gc tho.

My husband had booked a weekend, for my birthday, we drove down from Brisbane to find the place deserted. No reception no body on sight and no answer on their phone service! This was supposed to be a surprise, well it certainly was! We still haven’t had a call back after leaving a message on their message bank. Pretty poor!
And very disappointed!

Always wanted to go here and finally did. The staff were good and the area is lovely. They allow pets downstairs under the verandah with the frangipani vine. The food was interesting and I enjoyed it. Expect to pay for the experience.

We booked lunch at Mavis kitchen. What should have been a nice family lunch turned out to be an awful experience. Unfortunately a hand full of dishes where not available on the menu. Despite the late notice of the waiter, we were disappointed but understand that this can happen. When it also turned out that the wine we ordered wasn't available it became a little annoying. However the real disappointment came after we confirmed all desserts were available, we ordered, waited for over 30 minutes to find out that one of the desserts was also not available. All of this wouldn't have been a big deal if the waitstaff and in particular the restaurant manager would have handled it professionally. Instead he was arrogant, blamed the kitchen staff, did not apologies or offer alternatives and did absolutely nothing to make us feel welcome or cared for. What should have been a nice family lunch turned out to be an embarrassment and left a bad taste in our mouth.

We had New Years Eve lunch here, there was 1/2 the menu unavailable as well as the wine we wanted which by reading other reviews seems to be happening alot. But the main issue is it was a terrible experience due the ignorant manager in his little hot shorts, he ruined Mavis Kitchen as we have been there many times before being local, but due to him I don't think I can go back.

Can’t recommend this venue more highly! Lunch was beautiful, the view and use of local produce mainly grown in their own gardens. Service particularly by Shaz was second to none. Her knowledge of the menu and wine list made our experience all the better. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary. Make sure you book secret cabin 😻

My wife and I went there for lunch, for a special occasion and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Excellent service and friendly atmosphere from the staff from the moment we were greeted by the staff. Sharon who served us couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a pleasurable experience. The food was amazing and was enjoyed even more so with the recommended wines. The amazing produce was all grown in the huge gardens. Well done.
