Stayed at this hotel night before our holiday as flying out of Gatwick. Lovely room, very spacious. Had dinner in the restaurant, lovely food and staff really lovely and attentive. Would highly recommend. Update, we had a room that was connected to the one next door which we didn’t need. The door had about an inch gap from the floor and consequently we heard everything, we may as well all been in the same room so no sleep was had at all. Also a lot of noise from people walking around above us on creaky floorboards at all hours. Both shattered, 9 hour flight ahead so hopefully we will manage to sleep on the plane. Hopefully with some tweeks they could resolve these issues as it’s a lovely little hotel with a lovely restaurant close to the airport. There is an airport car park 1 mins up the road too which was very convenient.

Always great food, lovely staff and would highly recommend going for lunch or dinner.

I was recommended to The Old House and booked a table for this evening. There were 9 of us and 2 of us are vegan. I wanted to make sure they catered for vegans and the Chef Mark could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Not only did he ask us what we would like he got exactly what we wanted and even made a vegan chocolate forest trifle especially for us as dessert. The food was amazing and enjoyed by us all. We had 5 children who all loved their food. I honestly felt like they couldn't do more for us. I asked if I could drop balloons off earlier in the day as we were celebrating 3 birthdays, they were happy to set them up for us. We decided to eat outside as they have a lovely grassed area with football goal and a treehouse play area for children. The waitresses bought us blankets to keep us warm (it's quite mild tonight) and were always checking up on us to see if wanted drinks or more food etc. We all had such a lovely time it will definately be our go to pub/restaurant when we want to go out. Id like to thank the Chef Mark for going out of his way to make it such a great evening and to Lee who works within the company too who also spent time organising for us. 100%will recommend to everyone. Thank you.

Excellent food. My only criticism is why do the waiting staff never know what the soup of the day is? Or the pie? and when they ask would you like dessert tell you what is no longer available. Serious staff training needed to go with the good food! 😉

Fantastic roast takeaway today, absolutely delicious and such big portions. Very highly recommend.

Take away roast dinner, superb! Great service and set up well for Covid socially distanced queuing and pick up (i’m very cautious so this made me feel more confident and happy to be out supporting local businesses). Excellent value for money and will hope to come back for another meal soon.

We ordered a takeaway this evening and it was absolutely spot on. Two Smokey Joe burgers, two dirty fries and a mac 'n' cheese to share. Excellent food, really tasty. Ordering and collection was quick and easy too. Thanks guys, we'll be coming back!

Had a fantastic lunch today in the outdoor area. The fleece blankets and hot water bottles were a welcome addition. Super friendly and helpful staff. This was my first visit and will definitely be returning.

We had a table in the new heated outdoor area. Thoroughly recommend… hot water bottles, fur lined chairs and a heater. The perfect answer to a lunch with family from another household. We had the hummus to start and it was fantastic! The rotisserie chicken, burger, and lamb flatbread were so good and then desserts to follow! Thank-you for a lovely afternoon.

Our first visit last night with my husband and his parents, in-laws have visited before.
Lovely place great staff and really tasty food, reasonably priced.
Staff still very energised even though they were getting ready to close the doors again for lockdown 2.
We will be back as soon as you are open again in the meantime we will make the most of the takeaway service.

So you have to order via your phone, not exactly table friendly. The discount code doesn’t work! They charge 10% service charge when all they do is deliver it to your table! I will NOT be back. 0 stars.

Lovely ambience, great staff… but £12 for a very ‘rough’ glass of red is a step too far! Such a shame!

I love this place — have been coming here for about twenty years. The building is amazing, the menu extensive and the food great. It’s not cheap though! Would highly recommend.

The service was appalling. Had to wait an hour for meal and no apologies. Also when we complained all they said was sorry and took 10% off the bill.

Went here for double birthday celebration for my 94 yr old dad and 10 yr old granddaughter. It's fine for kids but not at all disabled friendly. Car park ankle-deep in gravel and very difficult for an elderly man to negotiate. My dad had a nasty fall which rather took the shine off the day. Also car park is chaos with very bad parking!

Awesome restaurant with a huge outdoor area out the back away from the road. Big tables, lovely gardens and a play area for the kids! Good food and reasonably priced!

A warm welcome for a family birthday in a beautiful restaurant oozing atmosphere. We were catered for exceptionally well and everyone’s food was excellent. We would all return!

We only stopped here for a drink but the place looked very homely and like an attractive place to stay overnight. The grounds were very pretty. Will definitely go back for a meal some time.

I loved this place. It is old and quaint but provides all you could need. Many people use the B&B because it is close to Gatwick Airport… just a 15 minute drive to south terminal. I used it because I was visiting home and my parents couldn't accommodate the entire family. I am glad I did. The rooms were either doubles (with a king bed) or twins (with two separate beds). They were clean and amply large. The showers were great (forgive my focus on showers… they are important to me! ) The breakfasts were excellent… everything you could want for and the staff were very accommodating to serve breakfast at any time we wanted. For the evening, the quality of food was excellent. The choice was much more than the standard pub fare but not so posh that you couldn't find something wholesome on the menu. All this and the costs are very reasonable. I investigated and there are locations that are cheaper but the accommodations are not as nice and the food was not what I wanted. I recommend this place to anyone for either a single night on the way to the airport or as a destination for their holidays.

A nice restaurant and probably good accommodation but I wouldn't come here just for the pub. The pub area is small with about 4 tables and room for a few at the bar but the restaurant and accommodation is clearly what they're good at. Nice location, lovely building and next time I'll come back for a meal but wasn't ideal for a place just to drink.

The Old House catered the wake for my mother, for circa 20 people. The food and service were both excellent, and created the perfect environment for Mum's send-off.

Really delicious fresh food, locally sourced, freshly prepared. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. All in all a lovely lovely place to eat.

I went to The Old House Inn for my work Christmas dinner in December and we were very impressed with the service and excellent food. The interior & atmosphere was rustic and warm and Tanya our waitress was outstanding, she was really lovely, friendly and very efficient! I will definitely be recommending to friends and family and actually… will be returning again this Friday!

Attending a networking breakfast event. Nice country pub. Good coffee and full English breakfast, bacon s little fatty and not crust, but overall tasty breakfast. Private room, with TV, which was useful.

Fantastic old inn. Food was delicious and serves superb. We had coffee in the snug with a roaring fire, lovely time. We didn't want to go home.

Its an amazing location the bar is great the food is amazing. Not tall people friendly in a hilarious way xD.

Really friendly staff. Food is top end of pub food, mid-range for restaurant food. A old, organically sprawling building with lots of strange nooks and low ceilings.

We had a table booked for 10. The place was busy and all worked perfectly. Food was excellent, good wine and real ales. Everyone is happy to go again!

Had dinner here on Saturday night, a large group of 12 while staying nearby for Lingfield races. The pub was really busy with s couple of other large parties in but we had an amazing meal, served by excellent staff who were very helpful especially as one of our group is coeliac. If we visit this area again will definitely go back maybe for B&B next time.

A very good Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings with great staff. Super close to Gatwick airport too. Will be back!

Our stay at the pub and room was fabulous. The room and dining experience were both excellent. The service was good and all staff were friendly and helpful. We returned from holiday and had problems with our car. We called the RAC and had to wait. The person in charge at the pub made us very welcome and although it was closing time he allowed us to stay in the pub out of the cold and provided us with complimentary very welcome hot coffee. Our journey home was to Bristol and their kindness enabled us to make the journey home less stressful. We cannot thank them enough for their kindness and will definitely stay at the Old House Inn again.

Visited this pub by chance as we were just dropping our car off at the long stay close by. There was a noisy crowd in the restaurant at first but the left soon after our arrival. The food was good, service pleasant if not a little erratic and the beer great (Youngs my favourite). I'd say overall between 3 and 4 stars.

Usually a 5 star but not this evening. Went wrong the moment we entered. Duty Manager being rude to the waitress that served us. After that, the service was great! The starters wonderful. But the mains were disappointing. I had a pork and white wine pie which I'm sure was chicken. My friend had chicken, which was dry — needed a sauce really. Look, I've had a meal here 6 times before, and every visit has been devine. Interestingly, they've always been lunch. This was an evening affair. Maybe something in that. Anyway, it was disappointing because of my previous visits, but still far better than beefeater or similar. I'll go again of course, so wasn't that bad, I suppose.

Had lunch at the Old house, Effingham. Chicken with Haloumi, chorizo and isreali tomato couscous. Was well cooked and quite tasty. Service was perfect despite there being a large group of us.

Lovely valentines dinner and the whole weekend was superb, the attention to detail with the food was amazing and the staff were very attentive, we were very impressed and looking forward to visiting again, Well done.

I have never put a review on Trip Adviser before. We have stayed in lots of places overnight as we did this time and the Old House is exceptional value with the owner and the staff going that extra mile. Really excellant room with en-suite wet room and very good dinner and breakfast Will definitely be back.

Stopped here because I needed to bring the dog to visit my missus (Cabin crew) who was flying into to an alternate in Gatwick. What an unbelievable surprise! We only wanted a roof, food and somewhere the dog would not get looked at like an alien. Such a cute place, spotless everywhere, great attention to detail… lovely gastro food… not the best I have had but by a million miles not the worst, plus the price reflected this, it is very reasonable (even for a northerner). The staff were unbelievably accomodating. Favourite parts were the cast iron bath complete with champagne holders and the beer garden at night. Well worth the £90.00 with breakfast.

My wife's fish was good. My veal was puny, cold, tasteless… I find it really annoying how many of these so-called gastro-pubs believe that giving you lousy, small portions makes up for quality. The veal dish I had was worth about £6 (not £14) and should be listed as a rocket and veal salad. It was not a meal. The beer was good, house red wine ok, and the speaker above our head was too loud. I like the decor and venue in general, service was ok, a bit slow, but it was a sunday night and there was only one barman who was also the waiter.

I came across this place whilst driving past one miserable January evening. It was absolutely stunningly lit up and looked ideal for what I had planned to find for my 5th wedding anniversary The first thing that strikes you about this place, not only from the road, but when you drive in, is the beauty of the building and the grounds. They have a stunning beer garden and surrounds. Outdoor games in the entrance, should you want to have some fun in the sun (with the kids maybe? ). We were greeted warmly and given the key to our room. No annoying form filling as they had all the details when booked. We were given our key and when we reached the room, we were pleasantly surprised. It was clean, cosy and came with a lovely wet room. The bed was huge and really comfortable. We had a lovely nights sleep. The bar and restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The menu is great. Not too many things to choose from but what there is, it's difficult to choose. All dishes sound lovely. We were certainly happy with the quality of food. I went with the beef Sunday roast and I couldn't recommend more highly, it was done to perfection. It surprised me to read a couple of the reviews about the noise from the planes, if you don't like planes flying overhead, I suggest you don't choose a hotel by an airport! For the record, I barely noticed the planes and it certainly didn't stop me sleeping, and we had the window in the room open. Overall, this place was fantastic.

A couple of friends from Connecticut, my daughter, her husband and I had dinner here the last Thursday in January and I forgot to leave a review but it's never too late! The food was fantastic, none of us could fault it and we all had something different off the menu, giving a reasonably good variety. One starter made into a ball of Butternut Squash, herbs and rice was ordered by my American friend, who had to ask what it was (I think it had an Italian name). I didn't like the sound of it but my friend raved so much, we all had a try of his — I was hooked it was so delicious. (I hope they keep it on the menu :) ) We had great wine too. The lady waiter was very pleasant and professional, she knew the menu well — a nice change from some other restaurants. Really looking forward to going again in May. Elle Gater. East Grinstead.

Went to this pub a few days ago. Got to the bar on this lovely hot sunny day to order a pint of beer and was abruptly told they where shut! due to a private function and we be in danger of our lives as we might get hit in the head by a large metal pole, even after telling them we would sit about a 1/4 of a mile away down the other end of the garden, STRANGE.

Popped in for our sunday lunch time snack and a drink. This was our first visit since it re-openned after the floods. The food was first class. We had several small dishes including the squid and roasted pork belly. They were great. The hand cut chips were worth asking for and their scotch egg was lovely. The barmaid was hard work but pleaseant enough — just not useful. The waiters were really good and the beer garden was very pleasant indeed. This is becomming a favourite.

£9.35 For two pints served by a sullen scruffy man in a sweater not my idea of a nice friendly pub.

Stopped by here on a lunch break on the off chance, certainly glad we did. Food was very, very good and the customer care and service were exceptional. Highly recommended.

Popped in quite by chance and discovered a delight. Happy, friendly staff (very rare these days) who wanted to please. Sandwich with all the trimmings (which included fries! ) was excellent. I will try the restaurant in a few weeks times when I am back this way. Try it, you wont be sorry.
