Location is great. Service is wonderful.

We had our small intimate wedding here last week and from the planning with Lauren to the day we checked out was 100% perfect. We really couldn't have asked for anything more the whole team at the hotel went above and beyond for us to ensure we had the most perfect wedding. Lauren supplied a list of local suppliers and well we weren't disappointed in our choices. Thank you team Hydro you were magnificent.

We just returned after 4 nights at the hotel. We had a fantastic time! Initially we were given the wrong type of room but that was quickly sorted. Was a little disappointed to be overlooking scruffy scaffolding in the second room, but it was the only other family room available. Breakfast was ok, not amazing for veggies but enough to get by. Pool area was just fantastic, so clean and plenty of space for those who wanted to swim and for the kids who wanted to play. Loads of floating toys etc to use too! My daughter tried a couple of the activities (crazibugz and mini Land Rover) which she absolutely loved. The young chap working there was very friendly and put her at ease all the way through. Worth the £10 fee. All the staff seemed pleasant and helpful, no complaints. Overall, quite an expensive week, but we enjoyed it and would return. Would love to the Crieff hydro too.

We had our wedding last week at the Hydro with 100 guests. Lauren and the team at the Hydro were very flexible and adaptable. They made our day very special and unforgettable! Moreover, the food service was impeccable! All our guests fully enjoyed the day, the food and the venue location! Thank you Lauren and the team! I highly recommend the Hydro as a Wedding venue with with their wedding packages!

First time at Peebles Hydro and we really enjoyed it. Great pool, gin tasting, activities, stunning scenery and helpful staff. Breakfast was really good also and we couldn’t fault our room. Thank you we will be back for sure. Peebles itself was fab great shops and places to eat. ☺️

Fabulous weekend away — rooms great — swimming pool good — although busy — staff very helpful and location perfect for walking to a restaurant in the centre. The view from the windows was stunning — helped greatly by the brilliant sunny weather. Totally recommend and we will be back! (Mums and teenage girls x4)

Had a lovely stay at he Hydro on a super deal for 2 nights. The room was big with a small seating area and a nice view. The staff are lovely and very helpful. Only negatives are the breakfast food isn't very hot. There is a plate warmer but the plates at the top are all cold. We had steak in the evening and whilst it was cooked perfectly it hadn't rested so was tough to eat and the chips were soggy. The meal on the first night was lovely though.

We had a fantastic family Christmas at the Hydro. Lots of lovely touches, great activities, plenty of food, drink and merriment! It's a fantastic place for families and the kids had an absolute ball. A huge thank you to the staff for making it special.

Haven’t been here for 50 years — just as I remember it — fabulous hotel with lovely food, bar, staff so friendly and accommodating — lots to do for kids and dogs allowed in room!

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Peebles Hydro. The room was very spacious and well appointed. The dining room, which I believe used to be the ballroom is fantastic and the service was excellent. The chicken dinner for 2 was lovely!
The additional measures put in place to ensure compliance with current Covid-19 restrictions made us feel comfortable and relaxed in the hotel.
The staff were attentive and helpful, would thoroughly recommend.

First time visiting Peebles and the hydro. We stayed 1 night but could easily have stayed longer. Staff were fantastic and we were well looked after. Would highly recommend.

Stayed for two nights for a wedding. Fantastic facilities for the family, great breakfast and cocktails lovely. The family room was beautifully finished and roomy for the whole family, kids loved the bunk beds and that we were so close to the pool. The whole family and family dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay. X.

A great place to spend a quiet interlude. There are too many amenities available to list, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. What’s not to like?

Leisure centre not very clean, staff very nice although feel main entrance could do with a make over. Overall room is very spacious and food and company great x.

Excellent service and high quality food and drinks, especially the 1881 Gin and Tonic range produced on site from their own spring water. Unique.

Great meals nice helpful staff, so relaxing! Big breakfasts. Lots to do! Have visited in the past and loved it but dining room always felt a little stuffy. It is still spacious and grand but a lot more family friendly and there’s lots for kids to do.
Great pool, steam room and sauna, all nice and clean with plenty of fresh towels on hand.

Our bedroom had beautiful views, bed was very comfy, bathroom had luxury towels and toiletries, food great, excellent service from all staff, made our dog very welcome, and on our first night they had entertainment on, Ali James musician, he was excellent, just finished off a perfect day.

Family friendly means no quiet space for adults to enjoy a peaceful drink. They need to have an adults only area.

Lovely food and staff. Hotel needs a bit TLC… our view was onto a work in progress and a huge skip which was being filled very early in morning. Corridors being painted directly outside our room too… this was a gift if I had paid I would not have been happy!

My fantastic wife took me away for a night at the Peebles Hydro. Good beer and wine in the bar. Big screens to watch the F1 and then the cricket on.
Superb meal at night. Food was excellent. A few more drinks in the bar before bed.
Massive comfy bed. Great sleep.
Good selection of breakfast choices before going for a swim, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
Followed that up with a wander down to see the ‘Hendro’ and Hivedro’
Pity it was only 1 night away.

Great facilities for families, young and old. Play park for toddlers, chicken run, tennis court, indoor badminton and table tennis for rainy days. Restaurant food was delicious. Good selection for children's buffet.

Upon arriving the hotel is nice, although the paintwork on the exterior of the windows need touched up. The entrance was clean and well kept. Reception staff were friendly and advised to book a time for dinner as they were quiet busy. Room was not far from reception and was very nice, maybe a bit cold though and couldn't figure out how to turn on radiator. Leisure facilities were clean and looked after. The meal was nice, however the menu was quite poor. Went for the burger and chips which was tasty. Breakfast was a buffet selection and very nice. Checkout was 11am which was a nice surprise. Would visit again.

Great few days at the hydro. Can't complain about anything… Fantastic food, lovely staff and a great room. Will definitely be back (with our dog again)!

Rooms were very small even tho paided extra for refurbished room shower was rubbish no pressure food was lovely staff very good but seemed to rushed off three feet very short staffed. Very poor set up for being dog hotel dogs were not in one area were in rooms next to people not like other hotels I have been in and very strange on the 3rd floor off a hotel. We had one next door to us and when left 2 nights in row on its own was barking and crying contacted the hotel who just repeated we are a dog hotel not very interested we are very big dog people our selfs but the set up for dogs was not right at all.

Friendly helpful staff. Great views, rooms would benefit from a bit of an upgrade but clean an tidy. Nice swimming pool and sauna steam room for use by guests. Great breakfast. Food and drink in the bar/restaurant on the upper end of the scale but good burgers. Would stay again but maybe go into town for dinner.

My visit here left me very impressed. Everyone was courteous friendly and professional. The bar staff were excellent The lobby was well run The swimming pool was great. Eating, both breakfast and evening meal was really well organised and the food very good. I would recommend Peebles Hydro to anyone who wants style and good service. Well done to all the staff.

Slightly disappointed with the hotel, it is in beautiful surroundings and looks lovely from the outside, it’s a bit tired on the inside although they are in the midst of refurbishing, the main foyer carpet was old, worn & thread bare, our room was nothing special and despite being recently refurbished still had the old and very dated furniture in it, although it had a beautiful view, Tea/coffee facilities were sparse, no water in the room for drinking, the Gin Palace was basically a green house with bottles of gin in it, the dining room which had been refurbished was so out of place in the hotel and looked like an Ikea cafe, the menu was very poor and disappointing with not one Scottish dish on it, they didn’t have the seafood bisque and the waitress said they had never had it since the menu came out!
We had the gin tempura prawns and the pea/cod risotto and it was very bland and tasteless, the pineapple & coconut crumble & rum raisin ice cream which was basically tinned pineapple sprinkled with coconut & cooked in the oven! There was not a bit of crumbled near it, breakfast was fine, all you needed but was a bit sparse as it wasn’t topped up, in checking out we asked if they would like some feed back so we said about the food/menu &.

Wonderful old fashioned British hotel. Big, grand, lovely comfortable rooms, remarkable views (depending on weather of course). Lovely staff and fine food. Somewhat cheesed off by negative reviews of miserable, selfish old gits. Ignore them, it's smashing.

Lovely hotel, great for families. We had a refurbished room — very modern. Lots to do. Pool fantastic. Restaurant and food nice. Would highly recommend.

Unimpressive afternoon tea. Came for afternoon tea with my family. Was hugely disappointed to have no menu of teas to choose from and tea served in horrible old stainless steel teapots, old school style and couldn't pour without spilling everywhere. The scones were nice, clotted cream really good, jam was cheap, cakes were ok, sandwiches good, and some kind of cereal concoction in a tea cup which wasn't very nice. They could really ramp up the style here and make more of an effort in my opinion. Staff were attentive.

Not enough car parking spaces. Had to drive around a few times before giving up and parking at the entrance to the grounds. Cocktail bar was a bit of a disappointment as there was not enough glasses on hand and no cocktail list. We were in a newly refurbished room on the ground floor. Beautiful views and nicely decorated. Staff were all very friendly but all a bit overworked and overwhelmed with their tasks.

Spa day: What a horrible experience we had last week. The place is run down and needs work.
1. Ladies changing rooms out of order so all ladies had to take turns using the spa one room, no mirror to change in.
2. Pool and pool area are run down cold and dirty
3. Massage was horrible, our backs were sore before we went we were looking forward to a massage. We both said firm to the therapist. I would hate to see what light was as we both came out thinking it was a tickle.
4. When calling to say I had a diatary requirement. No dairy means no dairy this covers anything that comes from a cow. Milk, butter, cheese, cream, chocolate. It is not a gluten intolerance its dairy and no I can eat eggs.
Both the chef and the waiter were concerned as the gluten free scones had egg in them. — We can eat wheat and flour. I am lactose intolerant.
The scones were tiny and we were starving as we were expecting afternoon tea not 4 little tiny scones.
We were hanging around all day waiting.
I will be writing a letter to the manager.

Great wee break… lovely place to stay as the staff are very welcoming. The food is good and our room was comfortable and warm during what was a really cold spell. If you like walks then Peebles is the place to be. Fantastic scenic walks and plentiful for the area. You could spend a long weekend and not cover them all. Will definitely return.

Nice friendly staff. Place could really do with being refurbished, carpets are well worn. Food is excellent and plenty on your plate. Drinks are expensive as you would expect too. Rooms also could do with new decor, my curtains were hanging off the rail, but room had a good modern tv.

Amazing views from the front if the hotel. Pebbles is walking distance from the hotel and a lovely village. Enjoyed using the fitness centre and the swimming pool. I was here for a professional development course. The room provided for our activities was appropriate, comfortable and with nice views too. The staff is friendly and helpful. The whole structure seems a bit old and the room a bit old fashion. But that's just personal taste. Loved the dining room. Good food. Great breakfast, with very good cooked breakfast too. The organisation for our rather large group was excellent.

Visited as part of a Christmas present. Very dog friendly hotel with blanket & poo bags left in room. Charge for dog is per visit not per night and the room was decent, comfortable and carpeted unlike other hotels that stick you in out of the way in a lesser quality room usually with laminate floor (that my dog can’t walk on) and charge ridiculous price per night. Food was lovely and the breakfast was delicious too. Already considering our next visit.

Just back from a lovely 3 night stay at this charming hotel. The stay was a present from our daughter and her boyfriend as a Ruby wedding anniversary present. We had a lovely refurbished room with wonderful views over the surrounding hills. Food was lovely, the hotel fab and the staff all first class. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely hotel!

Stayed here for one night as a part of an itison deal. We stayed in a feature room (unfortunately not one of the recently upgraded rooms). The view was terrific. The deal included dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The dinner was tasty, although very small portions. I'm not one for a large breakfast but my partner enjoyed it. We also made use of the leisure facilities which were nice.

Attended for Christmas (overnight) party night on 14/12. Place is very dated as are rooms but on the plus side room was large and was clean enough. Party night seemed dis-organised, in one room for dinner then moved into the ballroom for the party night. There was no atmosphere during dinner, no background music etc and food is being dished out whilst there were still people coming into the dining room to be seated, quite distracting tbh.
Food was ok, nothing spectacular, roast potatoes were of the frozen variety and some of the veg was hard. Lemon tart was bland.
Self service tea and coffee in the hallway outside the dining room; not ideal.
Staff were accomodating when asked for anything, so no complaints there.
Went to the bar for 2 cocktails and had to ask the barman (twice) for a bigger glass as half the contents were left in the cocktail shaker. Now at £8 a time, you want to get what you have paid for.
Neither the dining room, the ballroom or reception areas felt very festive as there were very little Christmas decorations. The gold and cream centre piece balloons from the dining room were being moved by staff to the tables in the ballroom when the party and band had already started (poor show). Tiny, low down table in the ballroom, we had 6 seated around ours and it was completely inadequate.

Slightly old fashioned feel, made me think of a Dirty Dancing type hotel of yesteryear. Rooms were ok, some better than others. Our shower and bath water pressure was very poor. Restaurant is good and decent value. Decent sized gyms. Free parking with plenty of spaces.

Had our annual Christmas party night last night. Fabulous value for money. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Brilliant rooms with seating areas and balconies! Food was great. The band had everyone up dancing from their first song. Already booked for next year. Love this place.

Situated in beautiful surroundings, this hotel is always a joy to stay at. The hotels puts on many events for all ages and has it's own gymnasium and pool. Well worth a visit.

Great staff and service — the food was excellent and dining hall an elegant and spacious room with lots of art and light. Lovely location as well, at the peak of a hill overlooking the Scottish borders. Quite impressed with the facilities and most of all the staff, whom went the extra mile. Looking forward to our next visit.

A very good hotel, excellent views from the front of the hotel. Lots and lots for the kids to do and the buffet breakfast is good. Excellent value for money in my opinion.

The Peebles Hydro is overall a great hotel if you know what to expect. For example — It's old which means that the Wi-Fi will not be as fast as one is used to from home. But that is fine as there are lots of activities to do. During our weekend stay, we hired bikes and had spa treatments. Both of which could be comfortably booked at the friendly hotel reception. If one doesn't want to go to the town centre for dinner, there's the Hydro restaurant that serves great food and is staffed by the most friendly people.

Interesting experience. The closest I can describe it, is the hotel in the shining. Without the scary bits :) A lovely environment for a corporate retreat. Very friendly staff and good choices for both food and alcohol.

Stayed for two nights with dog and loved it. Great area to explore with lovely walks by the river tweed. Town centre just big enough to explore for an hour or two. Good real ale pubs which we love too. Good sweetie shops and ice cream shops to enjoy.

The hotel itself is rather grand and you can imagine the different people that have passed through over the decades. Our room had been recently refurbished. As a family room, it was honestly more of a suite. 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and a small living area between. I couldn't really fault it. A lot of the corridors looked tired and need of some work. I imagine a lot of the rooms do too. But it would seem they are taking care of this bit by bit. The food was good, both evening meal and breakfast. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Was there for a wedding reception. The food was fantastic, the staff were were kind and helpful, and the building itself was beautiful. Only downside was that the drinks are pretty expensive.

Very disappointing experience. On Friday 27th May we booked a room for Sunday 29th May including breakfast. We received an email confirming our booking on 27th May at 12.13. On arrival at Peebles Hydro at 15.30 we were told there was a problem and the duty manager would speak to us. While we were waiting several other groups booked in without any problems. The duty manager arrived at 15.50 and informed us that there was a booking error and that no room was available for us. She assured us that the hotel had phoned us that morning to inform us but we received no phonecall either on mobile or landline. She offered us a room in the Barony Castle hotel, a 3 star hotel compared to the Hydro's 4 star. This hotel was approximately 5 miles out of Peebles. We had hoped to enjoy walking into the town and exploring the local facilities. On arrival at the Barony Castle we were told it was room only and that the booking had been made at 12.30 on the Sunday. I am really disappointed in the fact that the facts given by your manager proved to be false.

Peebles Hydro is in a state of flux at the moment as new owners attempt to move the hotel forward. The hotel is good value but there are a few rough egdes that go beyond the fabric of the building. On more than one occasion we had to try and track down staff to open a bar or shop that was supposed to be open and it left us with thw impression that its understaffed.

Could have been so much better with a few tweaks! It was explained to us that the rooms needed updating and it was reflected in the price, which was forgivable. But I had to rinse some previous guests hairs down the plug hole of the bath/shower which wasn't a good start. I had a hot bath but after my husband said his shower was cold. Staff were OK on reception but not very apologetic when our room key didn't work for several hours. We booked an inclusive package for easter including free kids club and activities which they tried to charge us £1.50 an activity for. The kids club was great and the staff very nice, just a shame they wanted extra money for almost everything! The pool was lovely although if you plan to have a relaxing massage and then relax around the pool, you can't as it opposite ends of the hotel and you have to walk past reception. Easy fixes are to make the plumbing better. Have empathy for guests and stop trying to get money from parents it's expensive enough taking children away and we picked this hotel purely for the free activities and kids club. Moving the spa would be difficult but at least offer guests on arrival a dressing gown and advise they change in the pool end then walk along to spa. Food here was very good and waiting staff are excellent.

Good enough experience at this hotel. Staff were all very good, and the food in the restaurant was lovely. Low points were the decor in the room and throughout the hotel in general. Our bath was cracked and yellowing and our toilet filthy. When I tried to phone through to the spa to book a treatment, three times over two days, the phone just rung out. Highly disappointing. Overall, a pleasant stay in a lovely old building but could do with improvement.

I'm a regular here and it feels like home. Staff are helpful and lots of recent and continued investment and renovation keeps the place and it's facilities looking and working brilliantly. So handy for mountain biking heaven too.

Nice old-fashioned hotel available at a bargain price. Evening meal was good although the service was a bit slow. If you have to wait to be seated then I do not expect to have to hang around for long. Our stay was spoiled by the lack of hot water in the room. The bathroom was modern and clean but I don't enjoy a lukewarm shower. The lassie at reception did not seem particularly surprised or apologetic.

Shocking food service. Staff have little or no training. 3 hours wait. We are not going for dinner tonight at the hotel.

They were doing renovations and it was very in comfortable beds were lumpy and could not sleep the grounds were badly needing attention the dinning was cold and uninviting not staff fault should have been closed while this was happening we wrote to them but did not send an answer we sent through hotel connection and were very disappointed.

Loved it. It's like stepping back in time to a better world before chain hotels and budget airlines. Went for a lads weekend with my 6 year old. He spent the whole time in the pool which was huge, empty and child friendly. The food was more than acceptable and not stupidly expensive. The breakfasts were excellent. The staff were old school, Scottish, reserved friendly rather than effusive. All in all it has a frayed, slightly down at heal charm which you will either love or hate. I will be back.

Not at all a good experience. We have stayed here on many occasions over the New Year holiday but this was our first summer visit. The hotel is clearly suffering from a shortage of staff and a shortage of trained staff. They all try to be helpful but there is an underlying problem with too few staff trying to look after guests. The bar ran out of a certain type of wine, and also ginger beer! We waited over 45 mins for meals and had to continually request water, rolls, butter etc. We had the same vegetables for 6 consecutive nights until we asked for different ones. The kids club was closed for 2 days because the one member of staff called in sick. The rooms were barely cleaned and the beds were never made up before 5pm. There was no entertainment in the ballroom 2 nights. Other guests say they have stayed that same week for years and this is the worst it has ever been. It has nothing to do with refurbishment plans etc. It has to do with cutting standards and staffing especially. We will be reluctant to return until we can be assured that the level of service and activities at New Year is as before.

Four stars, because of the staff not because of the quality of the hotel. This hotel needs a lot of work. Everywhere you look there's something frayed, cracked or rusted. We were there on a pretty cheap deal and it was good value for that but would have felt a bit cheated if it had been more expensive. Bar is pretty pricey, breakfasts were great. Swimming pool was awesome.

We had a lovely weekend at this hotel and can say no other than it was an extremely pleasant experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was most comfortable and clean and the food was excellent. The public rooms were very pleasant with fantastic views and the on site facilities were most satisfactory. As for negative comments about the stairs to reception, there is a lift for anyone wishing to use it or that may have mobility issues. We will certainly be going back in the future. We stayed weekend 3/5/14.

We had a lovely room (cademuir suite) which had its own dressing room, spa room and bathroom with big bath. Dinner was nice (silver service), but perhaps the menu is a bit old fashioned (esp the starters). We didn't make breakfast as it ends at 9/9.30am which was a bit too early for us as we wanted a long sleep, would prefer if it had ended at 10.30am or something. We didn't get a chance to swim as the pool was full of children and it didn't seem like there was a cut off for this in the evening — perhaps this is something that could be introduced. There are lots of country walks nearby which we took advantage of, very pleasant. Staff were all friendly. All in all we had a good stay and would go again.

Stayed in the hotel this weekend with hubby and two Grandchildren. Fabulous large family room with separate bedroom and TV for the boys. Reception staff very pleasant and professional and Ashleigh (red hair) was brilliant with kids and the club was fab. Food was fantastic in main dining room but kids were not impressed with high tea in Lazels and meals were not good value for the money we paid. We made good use of the swimming pool and kids loved it. Found the games room on the last day and wished we used it throughout the weekend. Great place to take children. Pity the weather was poor or we would have made use of the play park and gardens. Will definitely return and would recommend this as a great place to take the kids.
