Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Easy one of the best places for food in the borders!

Staff were so friendly, meal was delicious and we were made to feel so welcome and not rushed in anyway, will be back.

Enjoyed a delicious brunch in the hotel’s gorgeous dog friendly bar and bistro. Great service — looking forward to visiting again soon.

Very nice room, great bar by most hotel standards, Lauder seems a nice wee town.

Ok guys we don't go the borders often but if you do head straight to the bull it's the best place in the area better bedrooms than most of us has and the owners are brilliant staff are friendly (they are) food is what you'd expect from an establishment like this superb just go try it get out of the city for a night x.

Everything lovely hotel and the staff are great.

We had a relaxing stay at the Black Bull. Large comfortable bed in a spacious and attractive room. The food was delicious and allergy friendly. And top it off it was doggy friendly too.

The food was truly amazing and the hospitality was first class, We highly recommend this establishment.

My partner Al and I were there for my 65th birthday at the weekend, we had a fantastic time, thanks to Alan and Mandy who run the Hotel, along with there lovely staff.

Been for Sunday lunch, the roast was beautiful, my husband and daughter had cheese board and pate for sweet they were fantastic and I had the white chocolate and fruit crumble yummy. Would definitely recommend The Black Bull to anyone.

Stayed in this amazing hotel a few weekends ago. Room was large and very clean. Bed was super comfy and breakfast was fabulous. The owners and staff were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful.

Short Menu with carefully created dishes. Kind staff. Cosy small rooms. Dishes prepared and served well decorated. Acceptable prices. We loved it very much.

We went to the Black Bull on the off chance and were very pleased that they had a room, so pleased we stayed two nights. Owners and staff were very friendly. Rooms very unique but beautifully decorated, luxurious bathrooms, lovely bedding. We had bed and breakfast and also dinner on both evenings which was delicious. Good value for money. Would definitely recommend staying here and would go back.

Stayed here for the weekend while we were attending the Borders Book festival. Great service from all the staff and the room that we had was tastefully furnished. Certainly one place that we will consider for accommodation next time we are in the area.

Excellent little hotel well situated for touring Scotland. The food was superb and the staff very friendly and helpful.

A very warm welcome, especially from the resident dog who made friends with Charlie straight away. Very well appointed, comfortable rooms with plenty of storage space. Excellent food in the restaurant made even better as Charlie was allowed in with us.

We ate here last weekend and the quality of the food was exceptional, we ordered two legs of lamb and two steaks, all of which were faultlessly cooked to our preference. Great value food served at a very high standard.

Fantastic pub, with great rooms and spectacular service. I'd not hesitate to stay here again should I be in the area. Lauder is a beautiful little town, and this is it's gem.

Great lunchtime stop, lovely beers, food is incredible — lovely tastes, texture and presentation is stunning. Arnold you're a great host — love the chat about racing and you're somewhat dry sense of humour. You brightened a very sunny day :-) Slainte Mike.

Food and hospitality was superb. The service was brilliant. Overall the people were nice and a pleasant atmosphere.

We visited to 'check out the local' for Thirlstane Caravan Park. Both the owner and staff made us and our 3 children very welcome! The food is delicious — what more can we say!
I am sure we will be back MANY times over the coming season (especially to play with the stickle bricks) xx.

We stopped in Lauder and went to the Black Bull for our evening meal. It was absolutely delicious. Every aspect of the food was great. Starter, main course and sweet. Will most certainly be back and will highly recommend this to friends and family.

I'd rate this place three and a half stars… Couldn't fault the hospitality but the blinds let too much light in from the street lights outside for my taste plus bed was overly soft (then again I prefer a harder mattress) and the food was a good but nothing to write home about. A welcome stopover however…

Hotel clean and comfortable but after not having my choice on the menu and pre-paying was asked to change my order, so enquired if it was possible to change the sausage from pork and apple to leak which apperently was not an issue, but then was given apple and told was leak which was clearly not the case.

Stayed with our two young children in a family room for 2 nights. Lovely bright room, spotlessly clean. No bath but strong shower. Ate in hotel both nights, food was excellent, very good value for money. Nice atmosphere in pub when we were eating, and staff were very friendly throughout.

We only ventured as far as a starter and so glad we did, as the food was absolutely disgusting. All frozen food used and that was not even cooked correctly. No atmosphere and even on complaining to the owner who served and cooked the food! There was no level of compensation or even a sorry for the awful food. We can only assume that their AA 4 star award must be years old and is certainly not valid today. Would not recommend to anyone. 10th April 2013.
