I do not taste anything, least of all the attention as the room was in the first war, and without reforms.

It is very old and needs to be updated in many respects but it has its charm, it is expensive for what it offers, the hot water well the heating well but with a mobile radiator, I put 3 but they are 2, 5.

Great location. Only a five minute walk to the Haymarket train and tram station. The rooms were dated but clean. At the reception staff stated Wifi only available in lobby area, but had Wi-Fi upstairs in the room. Breakfast was very simply; cold cereals, packaged rolls, yogurts, and coffee and tea.

Nice hotel for a good price, breakfast was simple but not cooked, overall would stay again but maybe look elsewhere for better breakfast.

This hotel is well situated, just a 5 minute walk from Haymarket tram stop. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was clean. The hotel is full of character. Much of it could do with updating, but for me that's where its charm comes from. This is the 2nd time I've stayed, and I would stay again.

The place has lovley staff. However the room was: Cold (maybe single glazing and could feel cold wind through a window gap). I had to use towels from spare bed to stop cold air. I also had to use the second heater all the time just to keep warm. Not the most room to have a shower either. The good thing is it's close to the city centre.

Loved it, such a cool hotel! Nice staff and all round great stay.

My family stayed here it is very cleanif a bit dated. Good value.

Had no hot water for the duration of our trip. Just an awful hotel.

Although the beds were comfortable, the rest of the facilities were not very good. Breakfast was one of the worst we've seen in a hotel, Wi-Fi was only available at the bar and the water was only hot and not cold. Also the bathroom door in our room opened the wrong way around making the bathroom very hard to access. Other than that the staff was friendly and the location was very good.

The bedrooms are really run down. The beds are years and years old. Me and my 2 friends stayed here and 1 week after being home all 3 of us is covered in some kind of lumps that look like bites! It's that bad I am going to the doctors in the morning. People are saying it looks like bed bugs… I sincerely hope not. It cost us £174 for 1 night on 4th august and to be honest it wasn't worth half of that.

Very old interiors, bar open till late, breakfast very limited, cold coffee. Staff are very friendly.

Very, very dated and not super class. A four-poster bed was downright shabby.
Well, at least insofar as we don't have the luxury of a Ritz, we don't pay really the price either. That's something.
And the service is friendly…
… but it won't make me not come back personally.

It isn't exactly The Ritz, except it actually is. Paint peeling as is wallpaper and shower secured with string but friendly staff and cheap as chips. Can't complain because I am poor.

Cold water in the shower, no Wi-Fi on the top floors.

Good food, service and facilities. Close to everything.

Decor in the room was very dated and roadworks right outside the room were an unpleasant alarm clock at 6am! On an up note very handy for the airport bus, zoo and city centre.

Have just got back from the Edinburgh Tattoo and The Ritz was the only hotel that was available in my price range — considering it was August and Festival time. Having read some reviews I was a bit concerned but then it was only somewhere for my friend and myself to rest our heads. Our room had a double and a single bed and both beds very comfortable, best sleep for a long time — was a good size room, bedding was clean and we actually had blankets — loved it. > really chintzy and a bit dated but we loved the style. There was a tv, trouser press, hairdryer, iron and board, tea, coffee and biscuits, shampoo etc in bathroom — lovely pink towels that actually wrapped around my body. Ok so was not modern and magnolia but the whole hotel had character and as for the lady running it she was friendly enough when we spoke to her, we had a few conversations and she told us all about the hotel and the owner is actually not well at the minute. We loved the big silver buddah in one of the corridors and the big ted with his kilt on in the foyer. All in all we can wait to go back next year if it hasnt been sold or taken over — plus 5 mins away from Haymarket station, lots of bars, bistros and restaurants 5 mins away and actually could walk to the castle without having to get on the crowded buses.

I have stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions, once in 1998 and in 2002. I don't know who is managing the hotel now. BUT the staff were not all in your face friendly as we Americans expect (come on, it's not America now, get over yourself) but very helpful and even suggested a few things to do without our asking! We had a glorious suite complete with 1 large queen bed and 2 twins with fire place, couch, recliner, TV and a mini hallway to our bathroom. Utter charm. In 2002 we had a standard double room and it was just as charming. I've spoken to the owner since 2005 and know they were in the process of selling up. Not sure if that happened and perhaps standards have fallen. But the location is GREAT. Breakfast, FULL Breakfast was included then. If they have sold up, then I can only say the location is great! Besides, the pricing still seems fair.
