I stayed at The Allan Ramsay last night… best overnight booking I have ever made! Got a really warm and friendly welcome at check-in, given all the details and info for my stay and shown to my room. The room itself was a single en-suite and was perfect! Spotlessly clean, crisp sheets and linens and a nice colour theme throughout. A handy wee info pack was in the room, detailing breakfast options and times, bar and restaurant times, managerial team names and all contact info. Wifi password was in there too. I went back down to the restaurant for my evening meal… fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie (homemade pastry with AR on top). My room booking included a full cooked breakfast… once swiftly seated, you get your own jug of orange juice on your table and get greeted by staff and told to help yourself to cereal (nice choice available). I like my grub, so I obviously asked for a full Scottish breakfast… it was absolutely first class! Tasty local produce is used as far as absolutely possible, and even a splendid homemade tattie scone! All staff I spoke to are exceptionally friendly and chatty, welcoming and make you feel at home (sorry I would mention you all but forgotten your names). If you love a traditional country inn with no frills and the best friendly local staff and fantastic food / drink, this is the place for you! What a beautiful cosy and extremely friendly place to stay. The food was excellent as was the service from the staff Kenny & Rose. We will definitely be visiting again.

My husband and I went in to the restaurant/bar after a walk in the hills with our young son and our dog. We were welcomed in regardless of our dishevelled, muddy appearance and there was water available for the pooch and a high chair for our wee one. The food is phenomenal and the staff are friendly and welcoming. We loved that everything was locally sourced and freshly made and it was obvious! Everything tasted incredible! We will definitely be back.

Good place overall. Friendly staff. Food not particularly interesting but not too bad. Best thing is its location, just south of Edinburgh, on some really nice hills (the Pentlands). There's not much open to the public in this area so I welcome the very fact that it exists; it would be a great place to stay and have access to both wilderness and a great city. The interior is interesting with an exhibition about Alan Ramsay and a fine collection of books — — you can see some b&w photos I took from the great photo album called CENTURY. It's an ideal if you want a bite to eat just outside of Edinburgh; I stopped and had fish and chips en-route to London; sometimes you need to get out of the city, then stop and rest and then drive all night. Lovely place to visit Rossllyn Chapel and step to Edinburgh… Very clean quiet… Very good restaurant and TBN breakfast. It's simple and nice.

Cheap on busy road rooms dated food acceptable.

Very disappointing. Dropped in for soup which took 25 mins to arrive, tasted like tinned soup and served with a dry slice of white bread. What about that took 25 minutes?

I like the place! It has a nice and cozy atmosphere. The free internet is high speed unlike the big franchise hotels and breakfast was also included. Again, unlike the big franchises. Its out on the country side so ideal if you have your own wheels. But relatively close to Eskbank train station so super easy to get to Edinburgh.

Good fish and chips! Lemon cake is very good.

Food was good and well priced staff where friendly and helpful chief was fantastic and thanks for making me something that was not even on the menu! Thanks.

Scottish charm is all around in this place! Really cozy and warm, staff is more than friendly. Highly recommending :)

Wandered in as walking the Pentland Way. Very friendly barman who was exceedingly helpful. The large coffee is very large and the scone was tasty. Seats inside if cold and outside when sunny.

Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and a BLT. The ham was processed wafer thin ham and both sandwiches came on a toasted bap rather than a crusty freshly baked bread which I half expeced as its a nice looking country pub inside. Was dissapointed over all.

Zag er allemaal erg netjes uit personeel is erg vriendelijk het is allemaal niet nieuw of modern maar dat verwacht je ook als je naar een monumentaal gebouw gaat. Zeker een aanrader als je naar edinburgh wil gaan het is maar 25 minuten rijden naar p en r bij vliegveld daar neem je de tram dag kaart kost 4 pond.

Stayed here last night and had an amazing evening meal "Chicken Balmoral" chicken supreme stuffed with haggis wrapped in smoked bacon served with fondant potato an a whisky sauce. Simply delicious followed by an excellent Full Scottish Breakfast this morning. Washed down with our Revital U Brew Happy Daze.

Excellent food and hospitality. Very pleasant waitress and service was faultless.

Warm welcome, friendly owners and their dog great food and freshly prepared. Will be back next time we are up this way.

Just spent a night at the Allan Ramsay. Took my large dog and staff were really friendly. Room was very clean and comfy. There was everything I needed. I was served breakfast in the bar as I didnt want to leave my dog in the room or car. Lovely cooked full Scottish breakfast, and choice of cereal etc. Very reasonable price. Lovely old hotel with some great paintings on display. Will definitely go back.

Chanced upon the place on the way back from Edinburgh. Wasn't disappointed with the food, the specials were very well thought out.

Just A Quick coffee but nice service and tasty beans, may try dinner one eve.

Stopped in for lunch and had the ploughman' lunch. They do not skimp on anything. Beautifully arranged and yummy. Loved the hostess and the penny bar top.

Awesome food from a varied all day menu! Wonderful log fires, comfortable accomodation and a warm reception. We had a wonderful 3 days and will be back…
