We stayed at the castle, took the tour, and had breakfast and dinner there. All were excellent experiences. Also, we visited with our dog, and I have to say, they take dog friendly to a new level! The service was always wonderful. We stayed in the gatehouse, which was several beds across two levels. The beautiful historic building has been very comfortably restored. The beds were nice and the bathroom was spacious and excellent. The dinner was great, with huge portions and good quality. It was about £20 for two large courses. The property and setting are beautiful. I would highly recommend a visit!

Great for Welsh cakes and coffee in famous surroundings. Much more than just weddings. Food and drink modern gym and lovely place to stay with great views and good walking in limestone country. Possible to do caving horse riding and walking all in one day without using a car. Owner are waking up to the great location. Each time I visit they have restored a little more of this historic castle.

Castle park is such a lovely place to visit if in the area. Very clean & well maintained… a lovely place for the children. Plenty of squirrels everywhere & some ducks, waterfowl. In summer months the gardens are gorgeous to see. Park has a café that serves food, teas coffees etc & also a side bar for takeaway s& ice creams.

Loved staying here real character to this place. We stayed in the creepy cottage on the side the kids loved it and so did we… the shower was bloody awesome. Breakfast was just amazing the sausages may have been the best I've ever tasted. Would Deffo go back. Little pricey but worth the experience.

Attended a wedding and stopped the evening. Nice atmospheric setting with a good variety of rooms. Patti theater made for a nice backdrop for the wedding ceremony and the conservatory where the wedding breakfast was served was very nicely decorated. Room was quite old feeling which suits the atmosphere of the building though probably not up to a standard of some modern hotel rooms that I've stayed at particularly at this price range. Food was very good and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

My first impressions, to be honest, were not that good and our room (with three beds whereas it was really the size of a single) was disappointing considering the cost of an overnight stay (we were here for friend's birthday party) as it was scruffy and not especially clean (fingermarks all over the doors for example). The ensuite was well renovated though — new tiles with a steam shower although we didn't work out how to produce steam and the toilet seat was wobbly and the bedding clean and crisp without loads of annoying cushions and bedspreads. However I read through the book of visitor information including a letter by the owner which described the ongoing restoration project that they have embarked upon and I began to look at it differently. Although I still think that the rooms are overpriced compared to other places I regarded this rate as a contribution to the project, which is huge, and some parts of the Castle have been restored very well with a lot of money spent. This has meant making economies in staff and running costs which probably show in the overall appearance but if you embrace the intentions behind it then it is not so bad. So I guess I am really saying be prepared to be a bit forgiving in terms of standards in return for some spectacular rooms such as the conservatory, dining room and theatre and a lovely setting and a very helpful attitude. And great that they are dog friendly too.

Stayed one night but will go back for more staff great, castle and park magnificent. Not for everybody but if you like great views and walking and good food with your dog then this is for you. Only negative point for me some dog owners think it is ok to let there dogs sit up on seats not encouraged by staff. (Loved it)

Food is great. Staff are friendly and welcoming, some are more helpful than others. However communication can be poor, not getting answers on the phone, not getting call backs when requested, not getting replies to emails. We got married here and the venue is gorgeous and in a magical setting but needs some TLC. It was snowing and some guest rooms had no heating, which is unacceptable, and some windows wouldn't close properly. I would get married here again but service would need to improve.

Great place to stay but you can just drop in if you're passing. I recommend the history tour, it was fascinating. The food was absolutely delicious. They don't do lunch but the breakfast was lovely. Help yourself to full English and continental, the evening meals were gorgeous too. The staff were so friendly and helpful and passionate about the castle. It's a dog friendly place, but you wouldn't have known it, the place was so clean and the dogs were well behaved, there was also a lovely friendly fluffy cat roaming around. All in all for a castle it was a very comfortable, homely and inviting place to stay, I'm hoping to go back and do the ghost tour. Thank you to all the lovely staff who looked after us.

Wonderful hotel with a great history. Good food, clean comfortable but basic room. The best dog friendly venue we have ever visited. Look forward to returning.

Attended overnight for a wedding. Lovely venue. Comfortable room — we had the loft. Helpful staff. Useful to know that the minimum charge on a debit card is a tenner at the bar. Tricky and inconvenient when two drinks come to less than that. Also, the "special" wedding rate is in fact a THIRTY QUID increase on the standard rate. First time I've ever experienced that.

Attended a wedding, venue was set in a stunning location and the building itself was amazing. The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. I'd definitely recommend it.

Lovely staff, beautiful grounds, great for walking. We had a lovely time and the food was great. The castle needs some TLC but to be fair that doesn't effect the charm of the place. In some ways each paying guest and/or booking helps to restore this beautiful and interesting castle home with a interesting and passionate history.

Just had a four night stay, such a warm welcome with our three dogs. They too are treated like guests with their own sausages at breakfast! We have already booked our next stay! Staff so helpful Thank you!

Lovely place to take the dog for a walk around the grounds. Also has a lovely cafe for a hot drink and slice of cake.

Attended for a friend's wedding. Extraordinary venue, real hidden gem. The theatre and conservatory were beautiful and we all enjoyed the atmosphere of the fireside lounges. Would highly recommend.

A small group of us stayed at the castle and took part in their ghost tours. For the initial price we had a huge family room that was lovely and clean. We had a 3 course meal and breakfast in the morning. It was well worth it. Had a brilliant time on the ghost tour and will definitely do it again.

We looked around as some friends who are planning their sons wedding there. It's a great place, full of charm, waiting for the invite. Will post more after their big day, but that is in 2019

We visit the castle grounds and adjacent national park grounds to walk the dog regularly. The setting is superb and the park is well kept on both sides. It's a pleasure to walk there. We have only been in to the castle on one occasion this year, and unfortunately we could not wait to get served as our toddler was quite busy, there were a number of people waiting, and only one member of staff serving. But it's a pleasant experience overall.

Beautiful and historic place that is greatly underappreciated. Really accommodating for dogs and they have ghost tours as well as historic tours so there is something for everyone. Friendly staff and gorgeous food. Well recommended.

5 stars for food, service, staff and the dog-friendliness! The Castle is a magnificent building but is a little tired inside. That said, work is being done, a long-term project? Highly recommended, super access to grounds and country park! Don't go without your dog!

By far the most interesting and inspiring Bed & Breakfast we have ever visited. By no means is the castle as fancy as it must have been in the days of Adelina Patti, but the love that the staff has for the building and it's history is obvious. Special thanks to Emily and Sophie for taking care of us after the kitchen was closed, and to Seamus for the excellent tour, and the fantastic visit with his birds of prey.

Had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Castle with my daughter and Labradoodle Big Ted. Everything far exceeded my expectations — the Castle is a fantastic restoration work in progress with an interesting history, set in the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. Our room was very clean and well equipped with tea making facilities, T. V, hairdryer. And a bathroom with a really great shower. It was perfectly located to give quick access to a courtyard and quiet grassed area for our dog, and we were even allowed to use a hose down area to clean Ted after some muddy, but very enjoyable walks (special thanks to the friendly helpful 'groundsman' who showed us this useful facility). All staff were helpful and friendly at all times. Breakfast was to a very good standard with Ted receiving his own plate of sausages, which he loved! Great choice of good quality cooked food, toast, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, croissants and Welsh cakes, with a range of hot drinks and fruit juices. We also had a very enjoyable evening meal at the Castle, and other meals at several local pubs/Inns were also good. All in all, for us, a perfect break and excellent value for money — 4 nights was not long enough, and we would love to visit again. Thank you for a fantastic short break. Hopefully next time there will be less rain!

Dreadful room in the 'Nurses' Block. No soap in the toilet, no lock on the shower room, no glass for water in the room, no coffee and tea making facilities, no TV. The only opening window was easily accessible to anyone from outside gaining access to the room. The blonde member of staff was indifferent to my concerns; apparently this is what you have to expect when you 'only' pay £70 for a basic room. To top it all the breakfast was equally dreadful.

Fantastic location with nice size rooms. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The food was absolutely delicious especially their chips. To top it all off our dog was made extremely welcome and it was nice to have her with us for both our evening meal & breakfast I only have 2 small criticisms. 1st there was only a shower. This is not a problem but would have been nice if my wife could have got a shower cap, even if these were just with reception for those that needed 1.2nd dogs can not go on the tour of the castle. This is understandable considering the places it goes but we have to check out by 11. The tour starts at 10:30 and is approx 90 minutes. The weather was too warm to leave her in the car, so I had to miss out on the tour, which I was quite disappointed about. As I say only 2 small criticisms but a fantastic place to stay, especially with your dog.

We stayed for one night from London to visit family in South Wales with no idea of what to expect. It was just a deal that looked different and suited our needs. When we arrived my first impression was a hotel that had seen its best days and was on the decline, Just saying! So why the 5* rating. It very quickly became obvious that it is totally the reverse. The current owner has purchased this completely run down water logged hospital and is in the process of bringing it back to its former glory, (not a hospital obs) when it was a house of entertainment and soiree's with some very elegant guests, and it is a major task. The staff do their best and it is clear that they all have a common objective to restore the Castle and that follows through in their service. It isn't the Ritz and I could 'nit pic' it is definately work in progress however, we had a thoroughly good evening meal and breakfast served with a smile, banter and can do attitude. We stayed in the old dressing rooms of the theatre the room was OK very clean and lovely clean crisp sheets and comfortable bed with a door straight on to the beautiful gardens. We are not dog lovers (partner is a postman and they always know! ) but the three dogs that were there were no problem to us, and we found the owners very friendly after a few glasses of wine in the comfortable lounge.

Poor drinks selection at bar, under staffed and inexperienced bar staff. Very poor toilet facilities with one hand towel (no paper towels or hand driers). Food arrived lukewarm. On the plus side, a beautiful setting with stunning scenery.

Craig Y Nos Castle is a wonderful place. The views a wonderful and so are the castle grounds. The staff at the castle are all wonderful and welcoming.

Very luxurious, beautiful mansion with a very traditional feel. Romantic, with beautiful views and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

A very magnificent castle with history which is shared freely on the tour. Much work still to be done, but the areas already renovated are spacious and comfortable. The setting is fantastic in the country park which is a lovely place to walk the dog. We were made to feel very welcome and were provided with information on local walks and places of interest. Food was good and well presented, we sat in the bar area with our dog, and were very comfortable there with other guests with their dogs. Our room was pleasant with a big bathroom, and will certainly be going back to visit again, and will recommend to our friends. The hotel is a fantastic sight from all directions. The walks provided by the local country park are beautiful.

We stayed at Craig y nos for a wedding (married at a church then went to Craig y nos) it was all fantastic. Service was great, rooms are lovely, some a bit basic, (quite pricey though) great you can take dogs. Great wedding venue, everything went very well. Lovely place.

Stayed at Crag Y Nos Castle as a wedding guest. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful overal a fantastic place well recommended!

I was born in ystradglynas and my mother frend. Was born in thewhite house and hear name was vilot hipet and her father was a grander for mad Am patey and vilot used toplay music with madame patey and she lived till she was 99 and I used to go down there all the time with her father as he was a garder for patty and my mother sister was in hospital there when it was a hospital and my cousin rote. The book the children of crige a nose so l and my children and grandchildren have spent most oe our life up there and my son and his children as well if you want to about this place I have been since I was a child.

4 brilliant days bed breakfast and dinner husband and I and 3 dogs staff really friendly so helpful couldn't do enough for us — dogs thoroughly enjoyed themselves they had lakes to swim in great walks fabulous scenery lovely long walks for all — food nice — our room absolutely perfect — came home feeling absolutely chilled out — thank you to all staff at Craig-y-nos castle highly recommended hoping to return again summer 2016

Spending our second Christmas here and you really can't fault them. It's like being with the family at Christmas time as the staff are so friendly and go out of their way to help. The venue is beautiful and for the costs it's near impossible to beat. I would thoroughly recommend anyone trying it for their Christmas celebrations. Everytime we come we find it's getting better and better and really can't wait to come back again. You'll feel like you've been invited to a friend or family Christmas do. p. S. They are extremely dog friendly and you are welcome to take your dog into the bar area to eat. The surrounding walks are a treat and your dog is guaranteed to be worn out by the end of the day.

Visit as we were at a friends wedding. Beautiful grounds, go out the back and there's a huge park and duck pond. Food excellent. Good service. Very professional.
