Absolutely lovely meal here and fabulous staff. Enjoyed a dinner outside on a Monday. Fit me into a full schedule. Everyone accommodating, helpful, and friendly. Great spot for a dinner / date night.

Being local to the Crown and Thistle we knew they did wedding receptions and we liked the size of the venue for our 30 guests. When we enquired, we realised that the service they provide was seamless as they have done so many weddings! They talked us through everything step by step even down to the napkins. All our guests loved the venue and even more so loved the food! They were very flexible with our other booked providers such as the DJ/Florist, nothing was too much trouble for them. We had the most amazing wedding reception as we felt at ease that everything was in hand with the team at the Crown and Thistle, Thank you!

Couldn't be more central to the town if tried. Parking included to the rear of hotel. Friendly bunch of people and felt very chilled A great selection on the restaurant menu and very tasty 😋 rooms are great size, string cleans showers some decor is a little tired in places. Enjoyed our flying visit. Thankyou.

Lovely place really great value the only thing is to ask for a quieter room as the one we stayed in woke us up early with the kitchen extractor fan.

Car park access and availability difficult. The receptionist happily told us she'd taken the last space! She did direct us to the pay and display nearby. I had to ask where the rooms were. Yes there was only one door, but given the size and peculiarities of the building, it was by no means a given!
Saturday night is very lively and we had to fight our way through the masses enjoying the 80 decibel music. It was definitely not the quiet, quaint pub near the river I had imagined. I need to research better in future. Although the room was nice and quirky, I don't feel it was value for the price paid.

Really good food — delicious mushroom and halloumi burger and caramel ice cream! And really quick, friendly service from all the staff.

Our favourite pub/restaurant in Abingdon. Amazing food, staff are all lovely, great atmosphere. Our go to place to eat and drink. Highly recommended.

Visited with my 6yr old daughter for a quick lunch on Saturday. We shared a pizza and was given the choice to add our own topping, it was delicious and the fries were seasoned nicely. Have visited a few times and main meals are good but puddings dismal! Bread and Butter pudding was on the specials menu so thought yes please. Was nothing like, was like a slice of slab cake, no particular flavour, no texture, no raisins or any dried fruit, very disappointing.

Yesterday Mark and I got married at the Crown and Thistle. The food was amazing. Mostly though the staff were so accommodating; they were a credit to company. I would happly recommend it.

Our stay with u was amazing nothing was to much trouble u went above and beyond and we will most definitely be bk soon made it all the moor special that my partner proposed in room 3 and we would like in the future to have our wedding with you thank u so much for an amazing stay.

My wife and I regularly go to the Crown and Thistle and just love it there. The food is lovely and the staff are just amazing. Very helpful and polite. We couldn’t wish for a better local.

Considered a "nicer place to go" in Abingdon when you have a special occasion such as a wedding anniversary or big birthday. Having been a few times I can recommend the Sunday roasts.

Great place. Fantastic staff. £129 for double including dog very good value. Included an excellent breakfast. Location very close to river so provided a good dog circular walking route. Dog loved it. Didn't eat evening meal there as food was far too expensive. Room ok, very clean if a little tired. Hence 4* rather than 5*.

We had lunch on Sunday and decided to stay for the night mainly because of how nice the staff were. Particularly two waitresses. I'm terrible with names one is Romanian and the other French. This included singing happy birthday to me in a genuinely happy way. All the staff we met were really friendly and kind. The room was lovely although not very big. The shower was great and the bathroom was huge. If you like a bath you will enjoy the huge bath. Breakfast was excellent.

On one of the hottest days of the year so far — thank goodness for the air-con in the bedroom.
We arrived later than anticipated (partly because we had trouble locating the hotel car park) and after booking in and depositing our luggage, entered the restaurant with only 5 minutes to the end of service. We were shown to our seats by a pleasant waitress, presented with menus, and our drinks order was taken — and fulfilled swiftly. We ordered our meals in double quick time, and the food, which arrived quickly, was hot and very tasty — just what was needed at the end of a day travelling from France to the U. K.
We would definitely consider staying here again.

We thought our stay at the Crown and Thistle was excellent. Our room was clean and well supplied with anything we could wish for, the bed was very comfortable, and we were cool in the day and evening (AC) and comfortable temperature at night (AC switched off) The pub was a great place to eat and drink — we were in a large group, and the bar stayed open late, and we really enjoyed sitting outside in the warm wether. Good parking and well organised outside of the pub, including an old cannon and nice plants and flowers. Breakfast was excellent, with a very wide choice — far more than in similar establishments — I had the full English, but wished I'd had the avocado — it looked very good. We had 10/10 service from Julia, who was patient and helpful with the children, and packed up food for us to take away. We would recommend the hotel just for her wonderful service — it's lovely to be able to take children away and the people helping go out of their way to help. Very well situated — an easy walk down to the river. Other reviews online commented that there was noise form the road, but we were on the main road (room 16) and we didn't notice any noise at all. A great place to stay if you like going to interesting places of historic interest — much of the building dates from 1605. Oh — and it's easy to park in the large car park. Thank you all.

Great pub! Was very impressed by wide variety of foods on the menu. They really cater for everyone! Visited on Saturday the 9th for dinner and the waitress who was on that night was amazing, very friendly and attentive. Thanks for a lovely night.

I reserved a room and missed the hidden refundable rates that you can only see by clicking. I also missed the nonrefubdable language suspiciously at the very bottom of the terms page, in the opposite order of the rates page. My business travel plans changed and the management team would not even consider putting the room back up for let just to see if anyone else would book it. Their policy was no exceptions. So the room sat empty. Seems rather inflexible. I’ll not be staying here ever again and ensure I tell everyone about my experience.

The Crown and Thistle Restaurant has amazing choice of food and drink. The quality is also excellent. Parking is not easy but there are many car parks located close.

A friend and I had a very good one night stay while walking the Thames Path. The hotel is very convenient for the Path — lovely after a long day’s walk. The room was very comfortable, with plentiful tea/coffee supplies, complimentary mineral water, good bed linen and an excellent bathroom — with a greatly appreciated bath! We ate in the hotel restaurant. Excellent whitebait, slightly underwhelming pizza. Breakfast is one of the real stars of the show at this hotel, with a fabulous varied menu to choose from and a lovely waitress. All in all, we were glad that we chose the Crown & Thistle.

The room was lovely and the restaurant was excellent. The pub was not really in keeping with these, there was a big TV and noisy crowds, so we didn't have a relaxing drink after our meal as anticipated. Disappointingly, despite booking a King Sized room we were given a standard room. There was no apology given for this.

Staff were friendly and the food was good. But no hot water in the room even after running for a several minutes. The shears over the window in the bathroom rather than proper curtains made going to the bath an adventure.

CAME FOR A DINNER AND DRINKS — As our first time coming to this bar we were excited to try something new. We had a few cocktails and sat next to a lovely couple who we got talking to and they went on to say how they come to this place all the time. However, the way they spoke to by a manager was completely unacceptable as we sat in shock. They were told they only had the table for 2 hours and the way this lady came across was rude and sharp. The two sat next to us said how sharp she was and she felt like they didn't want to be there anymore. I won't be returning if this is the level of service a manager is applying to everyday service when the place is dead. It wasn't acceptable and I was absolutely appalled and shall not be returning.

A wonderful breakfast with lovely staff. If you enjoy the full English breakfast this is a must having said that the other breakfasts looked equally good and the people I was with certainly enjoyed them. This goes to show what good ingredients (decent sausages, fresh eggs, fresh tomatoes etc) and careful preparation can do. Enhance that with good presentation and friendly service and you have a winner. Very highly recommended.

Had a lovely time at this hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere was really nice. The only quibbles I had were that we could not get the room warm enough and gave our friends said their room was lovely (room 1). We went to breakfast at 10.00 and had fabulous service but unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, having said that we had a fantastic meal the evening before. We will definitely look to book again particularly as we have relatives in Abingdon and the hotel is central. All in all a great hotel.

Lovely relaxing stay in the bridal suite. The staff did everything they could to make it comfortable and private for us.

We were looking for a warm pub on a cold winters day. This was the perfect place. Nice warm fire. Just had a beer but the pizza looked good. Will return.

Lovely vaulted ceiling function room with adjoining bar. The main bar itself has nice comfy chairs and a fireplace. Outside there's loads of room so I expect to come back when it's warm outside.

Comfortable. Good food and service in the attached pub/bar. (We have a Spaniel. ) Room service available at breakfast. Friendly helpful service in the hotel. Decor could be updated. Room included dog bowl and bed. Thoroughly recommended.

Ate here for new years Eve lunch and had some fantastic food. Service was very friendly and quick. Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Prices reasonable, especially for what you get.

I'm sure lots of people say this. But you can not fault this hotel at all. The hotel, staff, food and room were excellent. The manager and staff could do enough to make your stay the best ever. Thank you everyone at the crown and thistle we will deffenatly be back to visit you. Phil and I went to celebrate a special occasion in our relationship and you guys made it extra special. The location and appearance are great but the food and service are poor. There never seem to be enough staff and the quality of food is bad. Cheap ingredients and although presented well, has a very average taste. I won’t go again not even for coffee! Sorry, but it has the mark of a chain where the pride and love for the venue have left.

Great classic pub with nice atmosphere and good drinks selection. Good beers on tap. Just don't try and get a cocktail — they're awful…

My apologies for the initial review, I actually don’t think I finalised my review and got disturbed by the children after a pretty mad day.
The C&T are always more than accommodating with the little ones and our oldest loves the bunny mushroom pizza.
The lamb shoulder I had form the specials last Sunday was really nice and I didn’t see anyone in our party who wasn’t satisfied with their food.
Just grabbed a couple of take away pizza’s this evening and again great service and quality food.
As always well be returning again soon for another feed at our favourite venue.

Nice place but the food was way over priced (as most places are) and the portions were pathetic. Sunday Roast for three cost an absolute fortune and was dreadful. Staff were okay.

I won a voucher at a charity event for a meal for 2, we went tonight to use it and was told we wasn't just having a main course but we could both have 3 courses so we only had to pay for drinks!
We ordered calamari, prawns, ribeye steaks and sticky toffee pudding, the food was absolutely beautiful and the steak was literally the best I've ever had, it was cooked to perfection

I had the special pizza which was very good, I couldn't finish it. One between two and a salad would probably be fine. Service was friendly. Not crowded, but Sunday evenings in Abingdon never are. Definitely will try it again.

Excellent gluten free options and alternatives. Also, good options for kids, they both had salmon with classic roast sides. If you are looking for a gluten free Sunday roast option, this is a great choice. Service was also good and there is nice outside and inside seating.

Food was alright but arrived cold. After sending it back it still wasn't hot enough but the manager couldn't care less. Only when we wouldn't back down did he have to acknowledge it. Service is below par and with so many other high quality restaurants about they need to buck their ideas up. I recommend "The Broad Face" next door as a much better alternative.

Great popped in for a drink on May bank holiday Monday. Good selection of beers local and others. Nice selection of bar snacks. Looks well maintenaned nice decor.

Went to the crown and thistle for a couple of drinks. Really enjoyed our visit, nice variety of drinks at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere and attractive decor. The only downside being the settees we sat on at first were so uncomfortable!

A good place to go for breakfast; you are not rushed and the food is of high standard without being too expensive: Full English with loverly Cumberland sausages for £8.50

Stayed for a wedding. Lovely venue, great food. Room 20 nice and quiet after the party.

I often go to the bar with friends for drinks. It is a great atmosphere and a warm ans cosy pub. The bar staff are friendly and the coctails are great too.

The building and ambiance were great. The food was excellent. Pricy but good quantity. The staff was friendly and professional but needed prompting each time. Would definitely recommend especially to tourists.

With a great atmosphere and awesome food, the restaurant is a great place for meal. You can head over to bar afterwards for a drink and soak up the atmosphere or drink outside in the courtyard.

Pleasant change from the usual hotel chain format. Rooms individually decorated. Food is good, breakfasts excellent.

My friends and I went there yesterday for our pre-Christmas meal, 6 of us. Right from the start the service was really poor. It took them ages to come to us to take a drinks order and forever for the meals order. Table booked for 8 pm, didn't get our food till after 9.30! Other reasons why I wouldn't go there or recommend are:
Ordered drinks, never arrived! Had to keep asking for them, at the end we gave up, as drinks never arrived.
Over charged us, so had to question the bill.
They've told us we've paid £20 less in cash, which we didn't, after realising that, they've never apologised.
Messed up starters and desserts. When asked about it, we've been fobbed off.
Main meals were way too salty! So all in all, the worst restaurant experience ever! We were all very disappointed, we won't be recommended this place to our friends and family.

8 of us wanted Afternoon Tea yesterday and although they weren't serving it at the time,, they accommodated us quickly and efficiently. Made super fresh sandwiches, cooked scones and provided delicious cakes. Service was superb and food wonderful. Thank you so much Crown & Thistle! Your 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor should be 5!
