Stayed there many times very good.

Strange place but feels nice. Big room and had a bath. Quite close to Tesco.

Would rather sleep in a rubbish dump full of rats.

I booked a room for my partner who needed a place to stay for the night due to the weather and was turned away due to his appearance and told that the hotel wasn't for people like him and was for working people. Absolutely disgusted that my partner has been stereotyped and discriminated against just because of the way he looks. Bad business, morally wrong!

Reasonable pricing, clean and close to Stevenage old Town.

OK kind of place. A falling down place which lacks a professional management, believe it is family run. Expect things to fail, water light, Wi-Fi etc were all broken. The room was never cleaned unless shouted for. Don't expect your coffee or tea sachets to be refilled.

The hotel is a bit basic and too expensive for what it is.

Ample parking, including street parking free after 6:30pm. Walking distance to nightlife and transport.

As someone else said, it's right like home when you're not at home. If you need something the kind family managing the hotel will provide that.

What a rip off! When checking into the hotel, the woman at the desk appeared very friendly and acommodating. But once I reached the room, things became an entirely different story! I found someone's soiled boxer shorts in my wardrobe, and used contact lenses in a plastic dish of water in one of the drawers. The bed was barely big enough for my partner and I to sit on together, let alone be able to sleep here. The ceiling corners were inhabited by numerous spider webs; and the bathroom should have been renamed 'The Cupboard with a Tub'! I work in event organisation and co-ordination, so I will frequently have clients and colleagues meet with me at the hotel to go through paperwork regarding an upcoming event. After having had 2 people visit my partner and I for a collective time of 3 hours, we were told we were not allowed to have visitors at the hotel! Their brochure claims that (and I quote) "The Gate Hotel offers an ideal location for both formal and INFORMAL meetings;. " What a load of old crock! When I have to have numerous papers spread out to show layouts for performances and food&beverage counters at any given event, of course I am going to need more space than what is provided in a CLOSED restaurant! Take my advice folks. Avoid this hotel. I never even stayed the full night, after further harrassment for stupid excuses from the woman behind the desk I promptly checked out.

I stayed here on saturday night, only as it was the only hotel in stevenage with any rooms. Phoned in adavance and they told me it was £59 for a double room for 2 people, when we got there they charged us £69. Then told us its 59 for one person and 69 for 2. Then she changed her story and said 78 for 1 person and 69 for 2. She was rude and argumentative and treated us like idiots. There was 1 bath towel in our room, for the 2 of us and no coffee, the kettle was full of stagnant water and lime scale. The bed wasnt a double, it was an american twin bed which is smaller. The room was hot and stuff with no air con or even a desktop fan. It was also very dusty and it was really noisey in the morning. wouldnt ever stay here again.
