The place was great. The food fantastic. Someone other than my & my party put the 2* review on here. The staff were more than helpful in resolving a problem not of their making & we look forward to staying there again hopefully in the not too distant future. Vw.

Whenever I visit Southampton, I always have a meal or a couple of drinks at The White Star. I've never been disappointed. Recently, I was there with a friend who said the fish was the best she'd had anywhere in the last few months. Staff are very friendly.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time! Rooms are clean, cute and have everything you need. Hotel staff is very attentive. Pub downstairs has amazing food and servers are very warm and friendly. Would definitely go back again and again!

Is a very nice pub/eaterie in a great location but this is offset by the high cost of the drinks and food.

Characterful pub in the heart of the old town offering good value, tasty fayre and we'll appointed bedrooms. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Good value for money — and a welcome change from the usual big-chain alternatives. Be prepared for a bit of city centre late night noise at the weekends … but nothing too disturbing. Worth booking the restaurant on a Friday evening to take advantage of the live music in the bar 6-8pm whilst you eat.

Stopped in for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. Good selection of beer and ciders and a decent pub menu. I ordered the fish and chips with some butternut squash soup, all were delicious.

Extremely good food — and not expensive; £12 for a burger and the best chips I've ever had. Excellent table service from Carla. Highly recommend this place.

Well, It wasn't good food, but the services was really nice. It was empty to be the first day of the week, just our table for 3, the Caesar salad was good, but we request the salad without anchovies and it came with a lot.

Great place, nice old building, top location. Rooms very comfy, breakfast was really nice. Staff were very friendly. Recommend a stay here.

Great pub with variety of seating sections ranging from sofas, steps and chairs. Great for group gatherings.

Went here first with my family for my birthday the staff were really friendly, then went back for lunch with another friend, the best fish and chips ever, so I recommend to a friend who went today 12/1/18 who also throughly enjoyed their meal today Well done to staff and chef.

A lovely meal. I must remember to order a side dish of vegetables to make it a reasonable size.

Nice rooms in good location but service at breakfast lost this place a star. Would recommend for overnight stay before setting off on cruise as in our case.

Very nice little hotel, where from all the cracks the history of the harbour and especially the Titanic Breathes.

Easy to locate and a warm and friendly greeting welcomes you. Great service and a wide range of beers and larger to choose from. Didn't eat here however the food I saw served looked fabulous. My only complaint are the prices for the drinks. £35+ for 6 beers is daylight robbery!

Hotel rooms to an excellent design, but let down by delivery. Would be higher rated but needs more attention from staff to maintain facilities, such as cleaning and curtains not being hung properly plus towels, toiletries, coffee, glasses etc only provided for one person when a double room. Be aware there will be noise from outside until early morning due to local bars/clubs etc.

Lovely room, with a great bathroom and comfortable bed. No air con,. But a fan supplied (though it's loud at night). Breakfast is good as I'd the food and beer available at night. Not noisy and very pleasant staff.

Excellent food at the White Star Tavern and the beer is also very good as well! I had a friend stay here and he showed me his room and I have to say it was amazing to see the quality of the bedrooms and the bathrooms. A very very lovely hotel with great food and very friendly and welcoming staff. The city centre is only a short walk from here and that's also a massive bonus.

The White Star Tavern is situated on Oxford Street surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the Southampton city restaurant/bar scene. The prices are fairly standard for the area, service is good, staff are friendly. Great drinking establishment.

Attending a teaching course set in the conference room. Room was cool during the hot weather. Comfortable seats, though a little stained. Friendly staff. No parking an when found — expensive for a day £8. Didn't have food there as the menu was pricey.

Had a fantastic stay in the Titanic room. Food and staff were amazing cannot wait to go back did not want to leave! I would recommend anyone to stay there you will not be disappointed.

Small room. No place for large suitcases. Not enough hangers. Lovely large shower and fluffy towels. Nice beds and pillows. Mini bar and friendly staff. Delicious food and fun atmosphere. Lounge furniture could use an update. Good interesting location.

Delicious food that was up with some of the best pork I've tasted, desert was delicious too and very artistic. Coupled with the friendly service I would wholeheartedly recommend a meal here.

Clean, characterfull accommodation with friendly attentive staff. Got a bit hot without air con but manageable with supplied fan. Great food.

Excellent service, very fine food and good location. The food portions are small for the money, so you won't be full, but your taste buds will be well satisfied. My only criticisms: the food took a long time to come and the ceiling where I was sat was cracking and sagging and looked like it was in danger of falling down any day now!

Go for private wine tastings upstairs run by Hampshire wine school and they are amazing. Pub is an OK venue and the ambience is nice.

Called in for food on the way to the ferry. Spacious gastro-pub which we decided to try for lunch. We had the salmon sandwiches, waffles and sharing plates. The sharing plates were particularly good, and probably what we'd go for next time. Waffles also good, but super-sweet!

We go here for breakfast on Sundays. Great selection. Newspapers to read. Friendly staff. Love it.

Great food, good beer selection, highly recommended (possibly the best food I've had in Southampton). I have two minor negative quibbles though… 1) The bawdy titanic cutaway pictures in the gents need to go. The kind of guy who likes that sorta thing is not someone I want to bump into in the toilets! 2) Shampoo the carpets in the bar, it would turn it into a 5* place. Minor quibbles though, overall a great place. Will be going again.

The White Star is one of the best bars in Southampton. Great range of drinks, wine selection and cocktails which are served/made correctly which makes it stand out from so many others. The menu is great, locally sourced and breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning is one of life's great treats accompanied by the papers — especially if you stick around long enough for Sunday dinner, board games and the red wine!

Fantastic food, great service. Recommend the burger. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars was the poor beer selection.

I've had the pleasure of visiting the White Star on numerous occasions when in Southampton, and to be honest, I cant fault the restaurant or the bar. Good quality, freshly made local produce. Superb cocktails and a great wine selection, ticks all my boxes. I will definitely be returning again.

I have been here several times now and I think its one of the best restaurants in Southampton. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Great for drinks with friends or a special occasion dinner.

Lovely attentive staff and great authentic food, matched with a relaxing vibe and tasty cocktails. All in all just a great night out. Thanks to Leighton who made us feel like valued guests who were thoroughly looked after.

Had a fantastic meal here with kids aged 6 and 7. We were treated really well by the staff and although our booking hadn't been taken correctly, they found space for us (wasn't too hard if i'm honest). The food was excellent value and very well cooked. Only criticism was that I hate having to order sides to go with my main course. If I'm paying nearly £18 a head for a main course, you can provide the vegetables within that price.

We were to board a cruise ship in Southampton, England, and visit family and friends prior to the cruise, so we chose The White Star Tavern in which to spend the pre-cruise night. This is an old Victorian inn, which was remodelled and a few years ago was re-made into a hotel. It has an excellent restaurant as well, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all year round. The manager checked us in and took us up narrow staircases to our room. A young lad brought our bags up for us. Although I say the staircases are narrow, they add to the quaint quality of the Inn, reminding us of old English haunted houses. There is an elevator/lift if you do not wish to use the stairs. My wife and I are fit 80 year olds and found the stairs no problem, however. The room itself was very modern, containing all the requisite items one expects to find in a first class hotel, including free Wi-Fi and a flat screen TV. The view was not impressive, looking over the roof below and towards a block of flats fifty metres distant (I think), but the room was very quiet with no street noise. We found the room very comfortable for our needs, but I would not want to stay there for a week, as it was not a large room. I do not want to dissuade people from staying at The White Star, far from it: I simply point out that the room was very comfortable, but on the small side.

Good restaurant. I tried the Hampshire Burger with a flacks.

Best place for breakfast the eggs benadict are to die for.

Excellent food service and atmosphere, a great pub for eating.
