Beautifully cooked fresh food and Wadworths Ales, in a historic building. Very friendly staff and also welcome dogs in the bar. Will be back as I’m tempted by an afternoon tea!

Would just like to say a massive thank you to the Bear hotel for catering for 10 of us as a walk in today. Considering we hadn’t pre booked they couldn’t have been more accommodating & hospitable. Great service & food👍🏽Thank you & Merry Christmas😍

My friend and I had a lovely lunch. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Bad service bo table check food was horrible and toilets were dirty with overflown bins.

My son and I had lunch with a good friend today at the Bear Hotel. The staff were chatty and friendly, this for me is always a big draw to returning to an establishment. My friend and I had the chicken liver parfait and my son had the fish and chips. All our food was excellent and with drinks too, very good value for money. Thank you to Jack for waiting on us and the gentleman at the bar who gave us the recipe for a bueno milkshake, we made one and it was excellent! 😁

Just returned from a few days break staying here. Very clean, helpful staff and friendly atmosphere, welcomed us as a family, with small children. Would definatley recommend. Thankyou.

Haven't been here for ages so went for lunch with a girlfriend. Lovely friendly staff, good service and nice food with a good choixe although the fish was a bit greasy. Obviously popular as the place was busy.

We thought we would give this place ago. Because they offer a COT in our room for our little one. They offer free parking for customer's but we couldn't get parked got told to use a pay and display… Good start there. The family room is so run down, from the windows to beds & bathroom. Windows are all roted don't dare to open them ah might fall apart. Bathroom toilet is all lime scale not clean. The bed mats have lots all there springs, feels like it's 30 years old. And to top it off the room cost 110 pound a night. Should be about 80 if it was up to date… won't be staying again sorry.

Although undergoing renovations at the moment, this hotel with its old world charm, couple of bars and restaurants, comfortable ensuite rooms and very friendly staff finds itself situated in the centre of Devizes. Good food was served in the evening and the included breakfast was very good. Slight problem getting the shower hot but otherwise a very nice stay and I will be back again!

First time visit to the Bear Inn hotel, friendly staff and good food. We had a Bar meal in the evening excellent service. Came in late after an evening out with local friends had a hot chocolate before going to bed. Excellent. Great breakfast we could not ask for more good value for money. We will come again soon.

Very friendly and informative receptionist. Quaint old hotel with loads of interesting history. Right in the middle of the wonderful town of Devizes. Booked again for Sunday lunch great lunch good sized portions. Maybe for me a bit expensive but comparative with other hotel lunches. Give a try. Staff helpful attentive but not intrusive. Will visit many times again.

This hotel is very cosy and excellent location. Has very good customer service team which is always there to help. Also the food in a restaurant is delicious and the portions are very big. I would recommend this place for a nice stay or just a lunch or dinner.

Great atmosphere — exactly what you want in a historic town hotel. Lovely log fire. Food was very good — lovely home made steak and ale pie with fresh vegetables. Warm and friendly staff made us feel very welcome.

This is the second year we have stayed at The Bear in February to attend the Regency Ball. The first thing that strikes you is the friendliness of the staff and the second is the wonderful quirky atmosphere. The room was at the front of the building with a lovely view of the street. It was clean and comfortable. The only complaint was that the room was too hot at night and it was difficult to sleep. The shower was lukewarm. What we really liked was a real key to the room, not one of those plastic cards that you struggle to work out how to use. We were pleased to park at the hotel, but spaces are limited. We were lucky and got a space. We had breakfast which was of a high standard.

Stayed here prior to uncles funeral. Staff were lovely & very accommodating, extending Aunties room without question. Our room was big & comfortable. Would love to come again sometime, in happier circumstances.

Friendly staff. Rooms hight standard. Right in town centre so have town on door step. Highly recommended.

Went to The Bear Hotel for Christmas meal with friends, nice warm bar area for a drink before we ate. Was a little surprised when we went to the restaurant for our 8pm table booking that the restaurant was empty, bearing in mind it was the weekend before Christmas. The food was good and service was good but as they had no-one else to look after it wasn't a busy night for the staff.

What's not to like? Good food and The Bear's wonderful atmosphere makes for a great evening out.

If you're looking for a hotel that has character, friendly staff and is smack bang in the middle of Wiltshire then the Bear Hotel meets that criteria. The hotel has 20 something rooms set up over 2 floors. The bar is nice and cosy with real wood fires and and a nice ambience. There is also a restaurant and they can cater for functions though I am not abe to comment further. I can say that on the weekend I stayed a wedding was taking place and I didn't see any disgruntled faces. The buidling is old and as such is worn in and warped which adds to the character of it. Our room was decorated in classic style and had antique furniture throughout. The bed was very comfy, I slept very well which is strange for me in a strange bed. The bathroom was a lot more modern and looked as it had been renovated recently. It was clean and the shower powerful and water could be easily adjusted to the tempature you wanted. I have friends in the area and this will now be my hotel of choice in this area.

Old world charm, good service combined with all modern delights Wi-Fi and. Lots of sockets. Very comfy bed. Good food. Smashing weekend. Charles.

Great old quaint place if you are not in a wheelchair. Claimed to be wheelchair friendly, but it is not (access, difficult doors, different levels, breakfast room up a few steps etc). However, some of the staff are very friendly and willing to help out any way they can (serve food in different area e. G. ). If not with wheelchair: very nice! Excellent ensuite rooms, dining, pub area.

For good quality British fair this is the best I've had in the Devizes area. Would have been 5 stars a few years ago but the portions seem more moderate these days. Nonetheless, for the best British food in the area pop in here.

I attended for a professional committee meeting and had dinner. The room was comfortable and clean, the food was to a decent standard. The staff were attentive and service was prompt.

The burger I had was great. But it was not my first choice (the pork had all gone but was still on the menu at 6pm). Everything was comfy and the food arrived promptly. Friendly staff and good decor. All in a nice even with the added bonus of no blairing music or the awful drone of a pub quiz.

The food is great but some of the staff are a little short tempered.

Went here for a drink with some mates. Nice place with lots of character. Can't say about proves as I didn't pay!

I was only here for the food, but it was a Bank Holiday Monday and incredibly busy, and we were still served brilliantly quickly. The food was excellent (We had the Chicken and Tarragon pie and a Chicken Burger). Excellent. A little pricey, but you do pay for the quality.

The hotel was very nice, a bit expensive for the room. The room was no better than the likes of travel lodge or a premier…

The most prominent hotel in Devizes. Courteous staff, good food, with prices to match. The Cellar Bar hosts a variety of entertainment that enhances the life of the town. One of the places to find a defibrillator.

Room was gorgeously appointed and featured lots of period elements. Food was outstanding and staff extremely helpful.

Our room initially had a problem with the circuit breaker having tripped hence no electricity in the room, however this was quickly and efficiently sorted. The (double) room was on the small side but perfectly adequate, well equipped and clean. The full English breakfast was, again, adequate but on the plus side there was a mountain of toast to go with it. I thought the accommodation was quite costly but I guess this is the going rate for a hotel in the town centre.

I don't stay because I am local but I regularly use it for meetings, lunch etc. The comment here about the cellar bar is a bit unfair and pretty annoying — I believe many of those events are booked and organised by promoters, clubs etc not the hotel — the hotel just rents them a room, provides food and drink and probably monitors maximum numbers. But if you turn up to any event where your ticket doesn't have a seat number it's your responsibility to get there in time, if that's important to you. Would have thought that was pretty obvious. People should have a greater sense of responsibility when leaving thoughtless, mean-spirited comments that don't actually reflect on the facility. They can hardly be blamed for an event's success. It's an historic place which contributes a great deal to the community life of the town; it's a lovely, traditional 'small county hotel' atmosphere, with good service, helpful staff, and (for me) it's a great local facility.

A very friendly classic styled hotel. They have a great bar/pub looking area with a real fire in the winter. The restaurant is very spacious and boasts an open kitchen. Rooms are clean elegant and spacious. Very friendly team.

Dirty, sticky tables. Plus we went for a paid event in the cellar (paid on the door) just to find that there was no where to sit; left after 10 minutes with no offer of refund.

I give this a 5, what a lovely day we had when we popped in for lunch on Market day, the staff are extremly nice and friendly and young Lee works so hard, what a lovely chap. I would certainly recommend the bear to my friends. Look forward to our return. Nice to get this kind of service with a smile. Keep up the good work.

The bear hotel has a great Jazz bar in the cellar — Most of the time it's free entry, but on occasion it's a fiver — Atmosphere is great — great sound acoustics and good beer. Am used to the Old Duke in Bristol, but this is unique in its own way. Highly recommended.
