Went for afternoon tea and we were really disappointed in quality of sandwiches and cakes. Sandwich fillings absolutely tasteless. Scones were the saving grace they were delicious. Service good. Tea, coffee and drinks good. But overall disappointed and would not recommend.

An amazing experience with delicious food and excellent service.

Nice and peaceful afternoon tea, The staff were very welcoming all in all a very pleasant experience, will definitely be returning.

Lovely afternoon tea with my friend and her little girl. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Felt very safe with the Covid measures in place. Afternoon tea was amazing and will definitely be visiting again. Emily our waitress was wonderful and is a credit to their team.

Had afternoon tea today with my two daughters it's was excellent and far more than we could eat we were served by Simon who couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely clean surroundings friendly staff and the cakes were delicious. Thank you we will return.

Had a superb Christmas day with family here, food was really lovely, my daughter in law and partner ate so much off the starter table. Tables looked lovely and staff were very friendly, well done and thank you to you all, you all worked so hard, oh and the ginger man house was superb, children loved it.

Cannot recommend this hotels restaurant enough — extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful staff who go out of the way to be friendly and helpful at all times. The afternoon tea “Best of British” was really unusual and love that you can do gin, Prosecco or vegan options covering all tastes. Highly recommend.

lovely home cooked food and was nice to have a choice from either traditional afternoon tea, savoury or vegetarian and they were very accommodating with changing a few things for us at no extra charge including all coffee's and fizzy drinks. Came for Sunday lunch as was Wife's Birthday. Great service and food. Staff even gave Wife a birthday drink on the house.

The County Hotel is a nice place stop over. The room was well presented. The bathroom had a full set of bathroom soaps. Staff in the bar lounge was very helpful. Reception staff were welcoming and gave time to chat a laugh a little.

Staff were very attentive and helpful as we had a mix of ages in our Party. Rooms were of a good size for some and others found their rooms a little tight. Dinner was superb and of good quality. Wine good but expensively priced. Only marked down because of the flooring in the bath room lacked grouting in some areas. Would go back should another event in the area occurred.

Went for afternoon tea with friends for a birthday celebration. Staff friendly and attentive. Decorated table for birthday guest. Sandwiches and cakes all very fresh and tasty. Would definitely go again. Own car park in busy part of town so no problems with that.

I hosted my Baby Shower today at the County Hotel and we had a wonderful afternoon. The events manager has been so helpful in the run up to the baby shower with regards to different food allergies & adapting afternoon teas to suit the needs of my guests, with no fuss or problems. The reception staff were lovely and polite and helped to colour photocopy a few extra prediction cards as I didn’t have enough in the packet. … The waiting staff were also very polite and accommodating, literally waiting on us hand and foot. Nothing was too much to ask and all was done with a smile. I highly recommend the County Hotel for events and delicious afternoon tea! I will definitely be returning and it will be my go to place for future events.

I booked a group afternoon tea at The County Hotel for a group of 17 ladies for part of a hen party. Right from the start the sales and marketing manager, Jason Shirley, was so helpful and accommodating. The hotel had it's own private car park and a larger car park next to that. The staff at the hotel were fantastic, so polite and they could not do enough for us. The service was fast and efficient, and the afternoon teas themselves were delicious. The staff were very accommodating about food allergies and intolerance's. The room was large and clean and we were allowed to decorate the room as it was for a party. We were shown how to connect our bluetooth to a speaker in the room so we could play our own music, and we were told any food we wished to take home with us could be wrapped up. The County Hotel offers great value for money, this was the best deal I could find by far, and it absolutely delivered. All in all a fantastic venue, with excellent staff. I could not have asked for better service. I will be highly recommending this hotel and I hope to return there soon. Many Thanks.

We stayed 1 night whilst visiting friends, the young man on reception was very pleasant and helpful, I was pleased that there was a lift to our room. The room was basic but clean and all we needed, especially grateful for the fan! Breakfast on Sunday morning was very good, nice airy restaurant, plenty of choice and again very pleasant helpful staff.

Small and practical hotel in the middle of the city with large parking. Friendly service and a very good restaurant. Rooms average and everything stops a bit winding, just "British. "

Attended for a 50th wedding anniversary party. The food was very nice. Great selection on the children's menu, although they did get our daughters dessert order wrong and unfortunately she didn't eat it. In very good condition for its age.

Used to be great for a late drink after a meeting, all of a sudden tonight bar closed at 10.50pm and lights off and wanted us to leave, would not serve any more drinks…

Nice enough hotel and seemed friendly staff. Car parking looks tight if theres any events on (as we arrived there was only 1 space as they had an event but later on we went out and when we came back there was plenty). Only slight downside really was the floorboards above were very creaky which made it hard to sleep until it died down about midnight.

Nice hotel situated in a good location within Chelmsford, Essex. I met with a client in the bar area and the facilities appeared to be good. The car park was very beneficial, particularly for such a central location. The staff were friendly and attentive. Prices seemed to be similar to most places within Chelmsford and overall I can say this is a nice location to head for a drink, a snack or bite to eat. Unfortunately I have not stayed in the rooms, consequently, cannot comment on those.

Had afternoon tea and with family. Chose the savory option. Very nice quality to the food. Service was OK. Could have been more attentive. Overall may go back x.

Room was clean, good size and everything worked. T was a bit out dated but nothing too dramatic. The food is exceptional. Definitely try the food best meal I have eaten in ages, amazing wine too. A great evening meal followed by an excellent breakfast.

Pleasant staff. Rooms hit and miss. Never got the Air-conditioning to work in any room. The hotel smells. And the telly does not always work. Food was very good. Not going back I hope.

If you live local and are planning your New Year here, I would strongly consider visiting the venue before you actually plan you stay/visit
They have had a leaking beer pipe for what they say is now 2 weeks and on going. The smell throughout the restaurant, reception, bar and 2 lobbies and even creeping up the stairwells can only be described as ‘vomit’.
Concerns are that as the pipe continues to leak, that it will also receive ingress, that in turn patrons will drink. And as they do not know which pipe or where the leak is coming from, it could be 1 of 8 drafts they have… are you ready to risk infection?
We ordered Gin and sat at the rear lobby, with the outside door open in 1c temp and all inner doors closed, wearing coats. During the various hours we past the bar from arriving at 1pm, we only saw 1 other gent drinking.
There are no room deodorisers being used, there was no pre warning to our stay, no apology from the staff.
We skipped breakfast due to the smells extending into the restaurant.
In addition 1 men’s toilet is ‘out of service’ which does not bode well for a potentially busy New Year period.

Really good place to go for both relaxation or business have great services to offer I have never eaten here or had any of the beverages as I usually go into town.

We were only visiting a long lost relative whom was staying there but enjoyed a very nice pot of tea in warm and comfortable surroundings.

We had an excellent stay at the County Hotel in Chelmsford. Staff were very friendly and efficient! Only downside was the breakfast is rather poor but otherwise would highly recommend this hotel.

We had a lovely stay at the County hotel, lovely big rooms with comfy beds and fully equipped with everything you could need. As well as being only a short walk into the centre of Chelmsford. Service was always friendly and polite, the only complaint I can have is that the iron in our room did not work properly, however this was not a disaster.

Hotel nice but my experience of the restaurant — oh dear! Not enough staff and not sure they all really knew about table service? Food took a shocking amount of time to come out and when it did not all at the same time. Table never cleared properly between courses. Improve your service and food timings and it could be good.

I took my friend for the afternoon tea. We really enjoyed it as the chef at the hotel made freshly baked house made scones and yogurts. Staff were very polite. The price was reasonable. The restaurant and toilet were very clean throughout. We enjoyed every moment and hope to go back there soon.

The staff couldn't do more if they tried. The food was excellent. I recommend upgrading your room, it's definitely worth it. I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Me and my wife got married last weekend in Chelmsford and stayed the night in the hotel in a premier suite and had breakfast the following morning. My family also travelled from Bristol to stay the night as well. Our stay was wonderful. I could not fault the room and the bathroom suite even had a roll top bath and separate shower. The cooked breakfast was plentiful and tasty with a good selection of cereals, continental choices and fruit. Family had a little trouble with an instance of no hot water in their room but it did not marr the stay. Highly recommend anyone to stay.

I stayed here 1 night on the 11th October. First Impressions are good ones when you park your car and find the parking bays are a decent size.
Then when you walk into the reception you can see that this a nice old building where the decor is light and cheery amd the public areas look very good indeed. Nice and comfortable seating in the loungue and bar area. I only used the dining room for breakfast and if the standard of that was anything to go by then I wpuld imagine that …the evening meals would be great. As I have mentioned it let me tell you that the breakfast was excellent. Yu have a choice of continental or cooked. The cooked range is plate service rather than buffet which is good. So you have a choice of english, vegan, salmon, eggs benedict, eggs florentine (which is what I chose and loved them). So much better than a buffet. Of course there is a buffet for cereal, toasts, rolls, fruit and the like too. The service was quiet and polite and charming. The reception gave me a nice friendly welcome on arrival, the check in and out was all quick and efficient too. My room was up at the front of the hotel but the double glazing kept most of the noise out until about 6-6:30 in the morning when I was stirring anyway and I started to hear the occasional bus outside. But most of the rooms are not at the fron but on the wings that extend back so would be much quieter.

Okay hotel in a good location. Very close to station. Not had the best welcome, being told I didn't have a reservation only you find they entered my name back to front. Bed was also quite small. Room was comfortable.

Used the crystal ballroom for a networking event. Service was excellent and the room was professional. Problem with the PA system but cost was refunded by the hotel.

This hotel has excellent customer service and is comfortable and clean and I highly recommend it. I became ill while staying at the hotel and the conduct of the staff was outstanding. They offered to collect me from the hospital if I was able to return and when I could not one of their own staff delivered my luggage to the hospital. I can not thank you all enough for your care and kindness.

Decent hotel. Clean, warm and comfortable in a good location. Reasonable Wi-Fi quality and good food and drink. Location is useful, with ample parking.
