I got married at the Lion Inn on Friday and everything from start to finish was amazing! Every detail had been attended to and I had nothing to worry about! Every staff member I came across was friendly and professional and happy to help. I cannot fault the venue or the team at all. Special thanks to Georgina who ensured everything ran smoothly and made me feel at ease — she’s amazing at her job! Would highly recommend the Lion Inn for weddings, dinner and hotel stays!

The ribs are absolutely excellent. I would, and do, travel miles for them. The staff are very efficient and friendly too.

Have attended the Lion a number of times for the fantastic comedy nights but had never used the restaurant. The atmosphere and service was amazing from all the staff but particularly the very friendly, cheery Ellen who looked after us so well. The food was absolutely fantastic, lots of it and very reasonably priced. Good selection of wines too. Loads of parking. Will definitely come back here. Cheers guys.

Had an amazing meal today! I have some dietary needs & there's some brilliant options for me. Vegan starter — tomato & pesto arancini was very tasty, loved it 😋 but the Vegan burger was even better. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Then the lovely waitresses sorted some dairy free dessert options for me! Great service, fantastic food & atmosphere :-) thank you!

Lots of heaters so nice and warm. Plenty of choice on the gluten free menu.

We sat outside due to restrictions but we were warm as there r heaters above the tables. So even on a cold day if was warm enough to sit without a coat. There were blankets if needed. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing.

Just collected and eaten our lovely takeaway, 2 wild boar and 1 chicken burger and 2 biscoff cheesecakes! Food was amazing, great service and great value for money!

Stayed for 3 nights. Lovely breakfasts. Didn't eat in restaurant so can't say how meals were but every night was busy. Rooms fantastic had a ground floor room in courtyard with a huge wet room and huge comfy bed. Staff friendly. Will definitely be back when staying in Chelmsford. X.

Great food as usual staff were excellent was not impressed with the drink service we had 31 people in the big room and waiting for drinks to be brought to room was very slow we do not blame the brilliant service by the young lady but think the service from bar could b a lot beat we had brought a lot off people who it was there first time.

I would thoroughly recommend The Lion Inn. My family of 20 people had a family get together today and it was such a lovely day. The staff were brilliant and very helpful and the food was excellent. It was packed with customers which just shows you how popular the hotel is. Well done team.

We could never express our gratitude to all of the incredible staff at the Lion for making our Wedding Day on 28.9.19 so utterly perfect George was an absolute legend, guiding us though what could easily be an overwhelming Wedding journey with professionalism, kindness, attention to detail & a “nothing is too much trouble” attitude. All of the staff were wonderful & our guests commented on the same. We will forever hold the Lion dear in our hearts for giving us a day so special and magnificent we will never ever forget every tiny detail. Sophie & Lee xx.

I thought the whole place had a buzz about it, the staff were good, nice big car park and my meal was so good, fresh and tasty and the bread was fantastic. Can’t wait to go again.

I love this place, great food, great drink and cocktails and beautiful surroundings, would recommend this place to all my friends and family, if you want a reasonably priced eating place with five star quality then go there.

Consistently delivers a real good choice of hearty, honest food and The Owner, Management and Staff are always attentive We love it here is it the cheapest no, but is it worth paying a little extra for quality and service most definitely Great job feeding us as always Team.

I have eaten here 2x in the last 2 weeks and both times the food has been exceptional, and service good!
With the pork belly I found myself wanting some kind of veg with it, would definetly add to the dish in my opinion, but I didn’t eat the apple sauce as I’m not a fan which would do the same job.
The fish platter everyday since I have found myself craving 3 salmon elements maybe 1 to many, but was absolutely amazing!

Our daughter and Son in law held their wedding reception here on Sunday 29th July 2018, A wonderful venue even though it did rain it didn't dampen their day, and the food was excellent and waitreses were very helpful and always smiling, Georgina looked after the whole day and made it stress free for them can not fault the Lion Inn, their rooms are clean and spotless and their breakfast was all good too. Well done the Lion inn will truly recomend it to our friends, and family who may not have been there for Mr and Mrs Halls big day xx (Georgina you are a star and thank you very much for looking after them and guests and me with the cake) xxx.

Friday evening meal. Busy but great service from well trained staff. Good food, plentiful and decent value. They don't take table bookings so get there early. Would recommend.

Been here a couple of times, food is great, well prepared and quality of food is 1st class, it’s a busy place but great atmosphere, I would recommend this place very high, it’s hard finding good honest food, the pork belly is superb.

We went last night for our 8th anniversary. Never been before but loads of people said the food is amazing. Yes it was truth the food was amazing. The service is amazing fast and on the ball no messing about. I also felt the staff wasn't judgemental as some restaurant are they do look down at you. They treated everyone equal.
The food came quick and hot. At the bar there was no waiting around for ages soon as you arrived at the bar you got served. It was busy but everything was good service which I was amazed.

Been here for over 7 years, seen a big turnover in staff and some of the regular food items have changed in quality and taste. That said, always busy, great atmosphere and a good selection of food on their specials board. Also a great selection of drinks from beers and ales (inc locally produced! ) to wines and cocktails!

Cosy rooms and great food — our stay at The Lion Inn was enjoyable. We felt welcomed. The room was nice and spacious, the showers were hot and, most importantly, the bed was comfy. Good selection of drinks at the bar. Little issue with check-in though: we were due to check-in at 3 but could not get into our room until 3.45ish — quite stressful seeing as we had a wedding at 5! Other people seemed to be in the same situation but, that said, the cleaning staff who were present were doing all they could to sort the situation out. Its a shame the communication at the desk was inconsistent (we were told the wait was half an hour — twice). Other than that, all was good.

Busy so book early! 3 adults 1 child we had main and dessert plus soft drinks for £85 plus tip. My chicken burger was ok nothing special for £10.95, great service and really nice place that was heaving by the time we went at 8pm. Would I go again… YES… if your thinking of going stop thinking and go.

The food and service is continually superb. I love the atmosphere and buzz. There are tables for quiet conversation too. Perfect venue for every occasion.

Ate there last night with my wife a daughter, we often visit Blue Strawberry nearby (they co own apparently) to thought would be OK Had to wait for table, that's fine as knew that before visiting, given a card with name and told they would collect us. I bought drinks paid cash, 20 min later a we are asked "are you just drinking" We say no we are waiting for a table, a guy then asks do you have a card and we hand it over… Anyway, food OK — certainly not as good as their other place though. However when people leave around our table in the conservatory, folk turn up to clean all tables around us! Spray cleaner everywhere and make us feel unwelcome to say the least! Setting up for breakfast or lunch. We ask for bill. It arrives with 3 drinks extra on it! OK they rectified and said there was a tab open under Dave — I gave my name which was David. Don't know whats happening but someone either pocketed the cash or they are sloppy. Would suggest paying £5-10 a head more and going somewhere better, Wetherspoons has better service to be honest!

I went for a meal on the night of the comedy club and I have to say I was soo impressed with the staff and service, the place was full and despite this the staff were organised and on point! Fully attentive, can not recommend enough! Will be visiting again soon. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Top notch food always great service. Always very busy and popular with families, couples and biz diners. Not had a bad meal here ever. Keep it up.

Really enjoyed a very nice lunch here. We would have gone before but you cannot book and we did not want to risk travelling with no booking. We got a table ad soon as we arrived and everything was was good at competitive prices. Good portions and high quality.

Very nice meal for partner's work anniversary. Food was enjoyable and cooked well despite having to cater for 30+ people at the same time. Location is very nice and had own personal bar separate from main restaurant.

Been here lots of times. Fantastic food and good service. Came here for our works Christmas Party, which was held in the venue at the back. Beautiful christmas decor and very welcoming with two lovely big open fireplaces in the bar area. Fantastic food choices which was all cooked to perfection and piping hot, which is very rear in most places for that amount of people. Fantastic DJ afterwards. The only thing I would say is for it to finish at midnight not 11pm. Will 100 % be booking again this year5☆

Went to the Lion Inn for our works Christmas party. The atmosphere was great. The food delicious. Shame it had to end at 11.30!

The lion inn Boreham Staff are amazing. Really helpful and friendly. Function rooms are spacious, hotel rooms are really comfortable and well equipped.

Had a great experience with Xmas dinner drinks and prompt service. It can get a little loud at peak times but you can still talk and hear each other at your own table. Make sure you check the specials board!

Fabulous food. Great service (But very busy). No booking, just roll up and wait for a free table which only took 20 mins or so. Time for a nice drink at the bar. Good selection of real ale.

Have been here a few times now and have loved every visit, this is just how a country pub/restaurant should be! Lovely menu and specials board with a cosy atmosphere. Great beers and wine too.

Had a lovely day for my father's wedding. Staff were beyond helpful with our allergy issues. The lovely Geo who ran the day was incredible helpful and polite. The food was fantastic, the meringue was incredible. Would happily come here again, if the restaurant is half as good I'll be more than happy with it.

Great venue and fantastic food. No bookings in advance so get there early. It's a very busy place and rightly so as the food is very good. Overall highly recommended. Enjoy.

Food is ALWAYS fantastic here. The venue is lovely — always clean and always made to feel welcome. It can get really busy so avoid the usual rush times. The grounds here are fantastic and the venue is located in a nice part of Essex. It is a big place, but still gives you the feel of somewhere much smaller and more intimate. Think I have been here about 7 times and have never been disappointed. I rarely give a five star but his place deserves it. The staff are always really friendly.

Great meals for all the family both vegetarian and meat. Pork belly had by two of the party had perfect crackling. The venison I had was fantastic, the best meal I've had there. Mash and cappadocia were both very tasty as was the waffle I had for desert.

Very tastefully decorated room. Comfortable bed. Very large bathroom with over bath shower. Quality towels with toiletries provided. Tea making facilities. Iron and board. But no hair dryer. Room opened onto pretty courtyard garden.

They do everything well here. My latest visit was for one of the monthly comedy nights. The quality of the acts was a bit hit-and-miss (but that is true of every comedy club I have been to). The sound system is good. Drinks are served at the tables in the comedy venue. Betty Stoggs Cornish ale on draft was delicious. I have eaten here several times in the past. The food is always good. Try the home-made pies. Service, even at the busiest times, never misses a beat.

Went for lunch on Sunday with a friend. Good vegetarian options, good service and very tasty.

Food to die for and a classy venue. The place is ever expanding with more tables but does so in a discreet and undisturbing fashion. Always love going out for dinner with the family either for special occasions or just an excuse to have their to die for pie of the day 'micks'.

The service was fairly quick and the meal was absolutely divine. I had the special dish of duck which fell off the bone beautifully. I would definitely recommend the pub.

Recently visited The Lion Inn for my brothers birthday, what a fantastic place to go, lively and staff very helpful, food was fantastic and the cheesecake… Yes please, can I have some more lol.

Excellent stay at the Lion Inn. The room was spacious and well equipped. The bed was very comfy, but you definitely need to get the spare pillow from the cupboard. We had a small patio with our room and it was a lovely sheltered sun trap. The food is excellent, if a little pricey.

Really nice restaurant and rooms. There seemed to be some sort of entertainment event on also, but I was tucked up with the kids.

Usually busy and for a reason! The food is consistantly of great quality, the servers are prompt and attentive and the atmosphere is relaxing. Keep an eye out for ribs on the specials menu.

As you walk through the doors, the atmosphere of the restaurant feels really great. After being handed menus, the waiter quickly came to ask for our drinks order. After the drinks came we took our order up to the bar. It took hardly any time at all before the food came. The food was amazing. It was one of the best meals I had tasted in a long time. When the waiter came to clear the plates away, he offered the desserts menu. The waiter took our orders and soon after brought the desserts. It was a great experience at The Lion Inn, the staff were friendly, especially our waiter, the food was quick, the food was really nice, and the portions were big. This is definitely a recommendation, and you should go there whenever you can because it is so amazing.

My son was getting married nearby so we stayed for three lovely nights, the food was at the lion is first class… The room was very comfortable, the staff are very hard working, and friendly! I would recommend to everyone! We are thinking of just going back just for a break. Loved our time there.

Food was really tasty and the decor is lovely. Word of warning — for some of the lunch items they do large and small. If you get the pasta dishes then the small is really small, like toddler sized.

I have been coming to the Lion Inn for four years and always had excellent food, drink and service. The location, decor, atmosphere and food are fantastic and for me it's the best restaurant in the South East.

Scrumptious meals at reasonable prices, wide selection of drinks and good service gets a 2 thumbs up! The crowd there speaks for itself. Will certainly be coming back for more.

We went on a very busy night and the staff were still quick and served us in good time. Very nice food and definitely will be retiring at some point. Pudding was amazing and good beer.

Staying in one of their boutique bedrooms, which has a lovely modern bathroom with great shower. I am enjoying the benefit of a patio door onto a (very small) balcony with views over miles of glorious contryside. Yes, I can hear cars from the nearby road but they must have stopped as they certainly didn't distrub my sleep. Also have a flat screen TV and a radio in the room and a personal joy, a teapot. The room itself is modern and welcoming. Air conditioning. Ate in the restaurant which had lovely quality food at reasonable prices. On the downside it was very busy and as it is a pub and obviously very popular quite noisy. My only dissappointment was breakfast — full english available and seemed to be cooked to order — which I never eat, so I found the choice of pastries, just croissants dissapointing and the fruit was to help yourself out of the fruit bowl (apple, banana, grapes) whereas I would have liked a selection of grapefruit / orange segments, sliced melon type. I can only put this down to the very small numbers they have here limiting this type of selection. But for those who eat a full English I am sure they will be very happy (so much better than some of the congealed offerings in large hotels, where mass quantities are kept warm). Would defn recommend and stay again without any hesitation.

We love this venue. Food is always nice and range of drinks are excellent. Since it opened we have never had a bad meal. Interia is to a high standard.
