We had an great few days at Compston House. Everything was beautifully clean, modern and the bed was good sized and comfortable. Meg and John are very friendly and helpful, with lots of enthusiasm and recommendations for places to eat etc. It was very useful having the parking permit included in the room, and the location of Compton House is ideal for exploring the buzzing village of Ambleside and the Lakes generally. The breakfast was amazing, and Meg and John are happy to customise it any way you like. Meg's blueberry muffins and John's blueberry pancakes are especially good. Their Dog Mia is the most amazing German shepherd, so obedient and friendly. We'll definitely be going back.

A lovely well appointed B&B run by a charming, friendly couple who just can’t do enough to help and look after you. Happy to recommend it very highly.

Stayed here in July 18. The hosts have changed since many of the previous reviews, but the same comments still apply; very helpful and friendly. Even without the American heritage the breakfasts are still very good as well. Good location and the parking pass makes things a lot easier.

Absolutely incredible place! Beautiful house in a beautiful town, but it's the owners that really make it feel like a home.

Fantastic B&B with amazing breakfast:-) brilliant location too.

Recently stayed 2 nights at Compston House in Ambleside, it was the 'American Style' that we were attracted to. The location couldn't have been any better, right in the midst of the shops, restaurants and a cinema! (All within walking distance). Jerry takes the breakfast orders and delivers Sues excellent cooking to your tables. Spotlessly clean with crisp white linen on the tables, lovely to come down to. Our room was adequate but the 'en Suite', sadly, was too small for my husband to shower in comfortably. (He is a large man). The only other thing I'd change would be the breakfast 'window ', it is 8.15 — 9.00, it would have been great if it was extended to say 09.30, to provide some flexibility if needed.

Lovely, welcoming hosts. Very clean and comfortable room and en-suite. Award winning breakfast, we both had the American style breakfast with fresh pancakes and all the maple syrup you could want. Safe and secure, you're never locked out, usually someone around if you ring the bell. Overall, definitely visit again, cheapest rates for central b&b in Ambleside for sure!

We stayed in the Montana room, after a very warm welcome. The room was made up impeccably, the en-suite was perfectly adequate and had an effective extractor fan (! ) and shower. The Wi-Fi here is fast, the TV works nicely and the award winning breakfast is simply amazing and will set you up well for the day. Sue and Jerry are lovely and very accommodating, the parking permit is extremely useful and makes the whole experience of visiting far more straightforward. Highly recommended!

Been visiting with Sue and Gerry for many years. Love the Spring and Autumn in the Lakes. Staying with Sue and Gerry is like home from home. They are terrific hosts, very accommodating. The breakfasts are something to behold, Gerry will take your order, the menu can be virtually any combination and Sue produces ' a picture on a plate '! The rooms are spotless, it's a great pleasure for us to return year on year. We'll be back. M and J.
