Lovely restaurant. Excellent food. Fine dining without overly expensive prices. Reccomend wines with each course a nice extra touch. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Will visit again.

We’ve just experienced the dine at home from 1863 Ullswater. I can honestly say the food was amazing. Delivery spot on and really well packaged. The instructions were amazing, especially for novices like us. The food though — we couldn’t have asked for better. It was truly amazing and didn’t really take much effort before serving it. We’d definitely recommend it.

Great food, great atmosphere and great service.

Impeccable from start to finish. The food was divine, there was a great choice of drinks and the service was amazing. Very attentive staff whilst still maintaining social distancing. We’ve been wanting to try 1863 for a while now and had to book it on our 3rd visit to Pooley Bridge. We’ll definitely be back.

We re back again! We come here all the time and love it with a passion. It’s the first place we’ve visited since lockdown ended. It’s still perfect in every way — stunning food, amazing staff and beautiful rooms. Discreet but effective safety measures in place. Oh and they do lunches now too.

Stayed four nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely hotel, very friendly, amenable staff. Extremely, polite and helpful. All rooms very clean and looked after every day. Restaurant seating a little too cosy, food exquisite. The location is ideal. Pooley Bridge is a lovely busy village that caterers for all visitors. Highly recommend.

Nice beers — rude staff. The pub was empty and they refused to let us take a seat in the "restaurant". Cannot recommend this place — awful staff.

I came to 1863 recently for an anniversary meal with my partner and we were really blown away by the whole experience. The waiting staff were very welcoming on arrival; they were hospitable and chatty and were only too happy to recommend accompanying wines for each dish. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they really made the evening feel special for us. The food itself really was excellent from start to finish (including the homemade bread and entrée which preceded the starter), however the standout for us was the roe deer. The team even brought out a special dessert plate for us to celebrate the occasion which was a very thoughtful touch. Although I could continue to go on about all the positives of this place, to summarise we could not fault our experience. Brilliant service and stunning dishes in a lovely setting. Although you'll pay a more premium price than the other eateries in the village it really is worth every single penny and we cannot wait to return. Do not hesitate to book in here. Thank you!

Great B&B in Pooley Bridge, owner is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. Rooms are lovely and food is first class. Breakfast was served fresh and very enjoyable.

I was a little apprehensive seeing as these aren't the types of restaurants I'm used to going to. We were recommended by the lovely waitress to do the full menu as it's set out as an a la carte menu but being us, we never go for starters. Although after experiencing this fine restaurant I really wish I had as the chefs have managed to make it flow perfectly. Everything was not only on time but it was cooked to perfection. Like a work of art! The likes of Gordon Ramsey would be jealous!

From entering to leaving the staff were very attentive to your needs, the food in the restaurant was very good for both dinner and breakfast and had a good night's sleep in the comfortable bed.

Fantastic food. Quality you really don't get much of in the Lakes, unfortunately. Great, cosy little waiting area-cum-bar that's much better for a drink than the out-and-out pubs in the area. Lovely owners and friendly staff. Rooms were smaller than we expected from the website (surprise! ), with some road noise, else would be 5* definitely.

Visited for a meal after been bought a voucher by the family. The meal was exceptional along with the very helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this lovely place.

The building has been beautifully decorated. The staff were fantastic. The food was magnificent. There is little more to be said. If you get the opportunity to go. Then go.

A popular restauant serving freshly prepared local food. The menu is changed to reflect seasonal dishes. The cosy bar and lounge is furnished to a high standard. They offer accommodation in comfortable bedrooms and serve cooked breakfasts.

Food was a great combination of modern and tasty. Everything was well curated and the overall experience was exceptional. Service was very good as expected. Decorations were not my cup of tea, but the food experience made me forget about it very fast.

We finally had a date free to visit 1863 Bar Bistro and WOW was it worth it!
Straight away the friendly welcome from the whole 1863 team to the eclectic interior that creates an amazing ambience.
We arrived early to enjoy the whole experience which also gives you time to browse the menu that is always evolving and have a cheeky pre meal drink.
The three courses are cooked and presented beautifully and are portion perfect ensuring you can enjoy a bottle or two of the lovely wine on offer!
I would say this is a place to visit for a special occasion but with a ever changing menu I think we could become regulars!
But don't take my word for it, book a table and try for yourself, I guarantee you won't be dissapointed!

We stayed there for 2 nights. They were so friendly and helpful. The breakfast is really good and beside that, the rooms! They are like a small 5 start hotels. We loved the time we spent there and if we turn back one day, we will stay there. So worst the money we spent.
