Great night with great friends, the buffet was top class so much better than curly sandwiches and tasteless sausage rolls you normally get, it was a magic venue.

Highly recommended this place so accommodating food some of the best food iv ever had and iv dinner in so nice place rooms are excellent can not fault them the shower are banging can't recommended this place enough well worth the 24 mile walk here there link with actinson taxie is also worth a massive mention wow one of the best places iv stayed on a walk.

Quite honestly the best local pub I have ever been to! … Amazing food, great drinks and fantastic hosts. You couldn't be made to feel more welcome! Dog friendly, with fantastic rooms and a great atmosphere! Restaurant, bar, great function room and a lovely beer garden. It's an awesome venue but it's the people that make it!

A fabulous evening celebrating Burns Night. The tables were beautifully decorated with tartan touches and the food was amazing! Delicious alternatives to the haggis and all well cooked and piping hot. Even the dogs had tartan collars 🤩 Well done to Andrew, Ruth and Team Howards!

Spent an evening in the Howard last night for a few Christmas drinks. Thoroughly enjoyed it, wonderful friendly cheerful staff, lovely atmosphere, cosy bar AND dogs! although we did almost forget to pay! we were so relaxed it felt like home 😂 thankyou all xxx.

Have just got home from a week’s holiday in Brampton. Was expecting to just chill in our cottage and hot tub but then we stumbled across this pub and ended up spending most of the week here! Really friendly staff and owners who made us and the dogs feel super welcome. Great food from the new chef and good beer. My daughter fell in love with the pub dogs and wanted to take them home. Smart pub/hotel with very welcoming and friendly landlord and staff. Great food and drinks. Service was excellent. Able to bring the dog along too. Couldn't ask for more really. We are on holiday but if we lived locally this would definitely be a regular for us.

One of the best country pubs there is! A friendly, family owned pub with open fires. Cosy with a great atmosphere complimented by modern decor. Food is excellent with a great selection. Well done to the owners for making it a joy to visit.

Wonderful birthday meal for my daughter today. What a truly beautiful pub you have made the atmosphere is always so welcoming. Food was fabulous and the waffle pudding with fruit was divine. Everything was so clean felt very safe and the staff all amazing absolute credit to you. I could have easily sat all day long can't wait to come back xx.

The new take away menu that these guys are doing is fantastic, we had the tikka curry and a child’s fish fingers, it was all hot, fab quality, great price and so delicious! We would 100% recommend x.

Superb. Nice atmosphere, good food (sensible portions), friendly service, and two dogs that meet and greet. We were there on a busy day and they handled it with honesty (told us there would be a wait), humour and class.

Can not recommend this place enough. Not only has the refurbishment given the place a completely new and warming look, but Andrew and Ruth are the kindest, nicest people you will meet. They will go out of their way to make sure you are happy.

I was lucky enough to have a tour of some of the rooms and they are very nice, Ruth and Andrew have transformed them with only a few changes. I was so impressed that my family will be staying here the weekend they attend my wedding. I've had works meals here, my hen weekend and I will be having a big family get together here for food and drinks the night before my wedding. If you are looking for great food at a reasonable price or maybe just a quiet pint in a friendly relaxing atmosphere, then I would definitely recommend popping in here. Ruth and Andrew, keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing an amazing job xx.

Had breakfast here this morning. Beautiful pub. Lovely host. Warm atmosphere, dogs included. Food was fantastic.

We had a fab lunch here today. Gorgeous homemade steak pie, tasty soup, scampi and chips. All made on the premises. Lovely welcome by friendly staff and utterly wooferly wonderful treats for our wee dog. Cosy fireside tables. Had a great walk to see Hadrian’s wall and popped back for coffee. Highly recommend. We’ll be back.

It is a very busy hotel with pub in Brampton. Easy access in the village. What I don't like is that the wine list is not very selective. Very few imported beers, the very basic truth. The food is fine a little slow service. Another negative point for a hotel is that it closes at 9pm the restaurant to the public.

Love this place for a nice meal be it day or night. Friendly staff and good service. Have been a few times and even stayed in one of their rooms.

Rooms ok but not worth £100. Food nice. Breakfast nice, but no sign of anyone asking if we were happy with it at all or if we wanted more toast/coffee. No sign of a smile frm the waiter either. Could improve on service.

Comfortable room and exceptionally good breakfast. Limited standard pub grub choices plus a couple of ok specials for dinner. Friendly staff. But let down by the noise from above my room: loud conversation and sound of heavy footsteps running around and objects being dropped or thrown onto the floor. This went on until past midnight! When I complained to a staff member they apologised, saying the owner's flat was above my room. Moral: The rooms are all named after characters from Dickens so when booking make sure you are not given Marley!

Very rude owners… walls papper think they let kids run round the halls drunk and affencive locals … scary.

Avoid for food and drink. After lovely drive down from Scotland Ayrshire coast my partner took me for lunch to Brampton en route to family home in Northumberland. I was not keen as our experience over years in that town has been poor. At Howard Arms my man asked bar staff if we could still eat — we did not want to drink if food not possible. It was about 1400 ish — cannot remember exact time to be precise. They told him it would be c. 15 minutes and where to get a menu. He said he did not mind the seat after driving for a while and so ordered 2 drinks and some crisps. We immediately ordered food after taking literally 2 sips of our drinks. He was told by same girl who told him to get the menus that they were not doing food now. Two people next to us got theirs. It was c. 14:15. The locals told us the owner never turned up and service was iffy. I asked for my partner's money back to no response at all. I left literally all of my drink and eat nothing. My partner was determined to finish his as we had just been robbed in our opinion. Nice to know there are still bandits in the borders. My partner apologised to me and said he was so embarrassed in his home area too. I was seething in the car and so eventually phoned and left a complaint for manager at 14:59 while in car. She phoned me back told me she did not do refunds — for that alone I would never go back here. But she would talk to her staff and get back to me.

Lovely food, nice British craft beers, great open fires, one of the best places in Brampton for a beer and / or food.

There is nothing wrong with the place. We enjoyed a lunch there and it was perfectly adequate. Not brilliant. The manager was actually apologetic about the food before hand (not having some things and the meal for two deal not being available) but he needn't have been. It was all fine, the pasta being the best of the dishes. There was just something missing, atmosphere? Comfiness? A je ne sais quoi! The likelihood is that if I was ever back in Brampton i'd try someplace else. But if you are there and hungry there are worse places.

Came in because the sign outside said "Outrageously good coffee". It's not. Friendly dog. Friendly staff.

Nice place with very friendly staff that did what they could to help. They even allowed us to bring in our dogs which was brilliant. Unfortunately the food was nothing special. Had a roast but thought it was tasteless. No flavour in the vegetables or gravy. Beef was nice though and reasonably priced.

Enjoyed a lovely family meal here while passing through the area, friendly welcome by staff bar was nice and clean, we all ordered off the light bite menu and one meal off the children menu all meals were served in good time and refreshing to see real home cooked food in a pub fresh cooked chips not frozen and local Cumberland sausage meal size was just rite and good value for money. This is somewhere I would visit again if I was passing by and would recommend a visit here.

The food was excellent. Our only complaint was the service was slow; we didn't complain but lest you think I'm just an impatient American, our server brought us 3 shots of amaretto on the house. So that mostly made up for it. Lovely setting. I recommend it.

There was four of us booked in for a meal at 8.00pm. Two of us decided to have starters and the other two decided to save for a dessert. It was a birthday meal and the person whos birthday it was was really looking forward to the sticky toffee pudding. Two of the main courses we chose were lovely, the other two were ok not worth the money. Once we finished our main courses, we waited for the waitress to ask us if we would like to see the dessert menu. We waited and waited and in the end asked which was now at 9.30pm. She replied that the kitchen was now closed and we were unable to have a dessert! Even though at another table they were given desserts after we had asked. I have never in all the restaurants we have eaten at been refused a dessert and will certainly not recommend eating here to anyone. Extremely disappointing.
