Do not book into this hotel they take your money and do not give you your stay! Money for nothing! No contact despite phone calls and emails! Theft is a crime but it seems “Nigel” has no sense of shame or honesty! I bought a Groupon deal for my Sister & Brother in law for Christmas, they booked but due to Covid they are unable to travel and you have redeemed the voucher so you have had the money! My sister has tried to contact the hotel but there has been no reply to any message sent! Shame on you, you have no consideration for others I have paid money and you have taken it but have not honoured the contract! It will not end here!

Awesome rooms with good friendly staff situated in a small beautiful village with lots of history and places to explore.

Stepped in out of the rain for spot of lunch. Roast beef carved off the bone at the table was delicious and that is from someone who never orders roast whilst dining out. Haddock rissotto equally delicious.

For a 3 star Hotel, the food here is 5 star. Superb food, breakfast and dinner. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Lovely evening meal, tasty steak pie, cosy bar area and a cosy lounge too. Comfortable bedroom with large sofa. Small town with riverside walks, and plentiful pubs, worth a visit.

Lovely town and surrounding area. We were made very welcome at reception. Bedroom was lovely with shabby chic furniture. Spotless bathroom and loads of hot water. Stairs were ver creaky but added a quirky charm to the place, they must be originals from the Victorian era. Plenty of choice both hot and cold at breakfast, very pleasant lady served us. We would recommend this hotel.

Very pricey food. The food was cold. Atmosphere is absent. 5 people in the restaurant/bar the couple who came on after us we served before us!

To quiet, no atmosphere, food cold and waited to long. Quality doesn't justify the price.

An old coaching inn that has managed to modernise just enough to avoid accusations of both faded grandeur and loss of character. The bar and lounge are comfortable with nice sofas, armchairs and upholstered chairs. Despite the rugs and carpets over wooden floors you can walk in with wellies or waders or just stockinged feet. One couple were even allowed to bring their laden touring bikes in whilst they had lunch. The best thing about the place was the friendly relaxed atmosphere created by the staff under the avuncular direction of the owner, Nigel, who was always happy to sit down for a chat and make sure we were having a good time. We went for a couple of days of fly fishing, never having done it before and were very well catered for. We would definitely go back.

Lovely old building and dog friendly. Are the walls flat? No. Are the floors level? NoAre the windows plastic and double glazed? No. If you want all that, stay at the Holiday Inn. This is a lovely old building, in a lovely old market town, run by friendly efficient staff who couldn't do enough for us, from the lovely cleaning lady, with the doggy treats to the manager. Would love to return and have no problems recommending.

Very popular place situated in the village of Appleby, always busy, nice food, opportunity to sit outside, not many tables available though. There appears to be a good range of drinks however I only drink soft drinks so I'm happy with a coke or a lemonade. Dogs are welcome as long as their owners behave.

Nice stay. Friendly family run hotel. Public rooms a bit dated but iur room was modern, clean and tidy and the food was very good.

Had a lovely holiday enjoying the sites while staying in this hotel. The room was perfect for what we needed it for and the staff were wonderful and made us feel very welcome.

The staff are all lovely and we were able to bring a dog. The bathrooms have been updated, and some of the rooms have new bedding. It is of course an old building with traditional features, so although the wallpaper, is not to my taste, it is what it is.

Short 2 night stay — nice rooms, nice food really good value for money!

Interesting old building slap bang in the middle of Appleby. Very limited off street parking, but public carpark just across the road behind. Excellent food, excellent wine cellar. Been staying here for donkeys years.

Rooms nice breakfast first class staff lovely only thing that let's it down is the entrance and frontage need updating.

Staff friendly & welcoming, food bit pricey but good, especially breakfast. We had a travel zoo voucher so didn’t expect a deluxe room but the room was basic, right at the top overlooking rooftops which was ok for us but wouldn’t have been for anyone with mobility issues. The room was ok, in need of some tlc & was clean except for mould around the bath & tiles. Overall a good base for us & we were satisfied we got value for money.

We are having a brilliant time, staff helpful and so friendly, rooms lovely and clean, food just brilliant.

Excellent customer service and great friendly atmosphere, lovely spacious room overlooking the square, as well as fantastic food.

Pleasant and cheap stay with a breakfast to die for. Also, their cheapest house wine is pretty darn good too. Free parking at the rear but, spaces do seem limited.

Perfectly acceptable apartment. Lovely decor and bathroom. Sofa bed isn't very comfy though. Has a big lump in the middle and the mattress is thin. Apart from that it's fine.

Chicken with pasta tasted like tomato ketchup! So sweet and sickly. No atmosphere, no music & waitress didn't have any idea what was what! The people in my company did enjoy the steak.

Wonderful food, extensive wine list with some real gems. Staff fantastic and we couldn’t fault it at all. We would highly recommend.

We had a lovely two night break at the Tufton Arms recently. Our hosts gave a very warm, friendly welcome, and the service was always impeccable. The room was extremely comfortable and well presented. Plenty of tea and coffee and biscuits. Very comfortable bed… bathroom included shower and bath — essential when walking in the Lakes. When we booked we were recommended the Sunday Roast which we had and it was DELICIOUS — locally sourced beef. All the staff without exception couldn't do enough for us and were polite and helpful. We ate all our evening meals here as the service and food was excellent. We will definitely be returning and will recommend to our friends and family.

Excellent bar and restaurant. Good food, friendly staff and dogs are welcome. For wine buffs — Nigel knows what he's talking about.

Fabulous Sunday lunch. Top quality food at most reasonable price.

A town hotel conveniently placed. Mixture of old and new inside which works very well. Also has a bar with good selection of drinks.

Nice big room, easy to find, slightly date furniture, the food in the restaurant was nice.

My husband and I called in on Sunday. We were welcomed with friendly staff that made u feel very welcome. The food was wonderful and served and carved at yr table. Would recommend anyone to go and have a meal. The roast beef is delicious.

Pleasant stay. Good food & beer. Somewhat difficult to park (assuming there are free spaces). Room was comfortable, overlooking the back of the hotel. Good breakfast. Lovely area to walk around of course.

Lovely family run place, could do with a bit of freshening up, but cosy and nice nonetheless. Breakfast wasn't anything to write home about, but dinner was good. Very pleasant staff and decent service all round.

Great two days stay at the tufton arms, we were in the annex, fantanstic room, if you wanted to cook" which we didnt" the kitchen was well equipped, dishwasher, fridge, two tv, s. Plenty of utensils, everything you would need really, food in hotel was lovely, well presented, great choice of breakfast, and really great staff, definately would come again. Just back from two nights staying at the Tufton Arms. We had an amazing suite of rooms, the best full english breakfast and a wonderful evening meal — attentive staff, quiet hotel, great food, comfy bed. Can't wait to go back in April. We are regular visitors and love this hotel (and Nigel and his staff)
