Just wanted to say we had an absolutely amazing meal at lowbyer tonight. More than enough food, beautifully cooked and great hospitality as always from Jim and his team. 10/10!

Best place in Alston! Superb atmosphere, amazing food and lovely rooms. Couldn’t recommend lowbyer enough. Jim and Jan go out of their way to make everything perfect for you.

Just returned from a wonderful stay here. Our whole family were made to feel so welcome by Jim and Janice — nothing was too much bother, with dietary requirements being met splendidly Fabulous selection of drinks in the bar, and a fantastic newly decorated lounge which felt like a home from home. We combined our stay with a trip on the Santa Express, and the kids thought it was magical. We can’t wait to come back x.

Outstanding hospitality from the second you set foot through the door. Guest lounge has recently been refurbished and is real home from home for relaxing in. Excellent selection in the bar — particularly the gins, and a real cosy atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit.

Spent Mother’s Day here with a large party of people of both adults and children, the food and service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and Jim’s homemade toffee sauce was delicious! Thanks Jim & Janice and the rest of the Lowbyer team.

Lovely hosts very comfortable bed and lovely clean room everything worked perfectly and the breakfast was incredible.

A huge 'thank you' to Janice and Jim for your extra special hospitality, last weekend. So kind of Jim to drive us back to our accommodation when our car couldn't cope with the hills in the snow. Beautiful rooms in this small BnB. Very nice finishing touches with tea and coffee in each room, and a nice common area with TV and plenty of books to lose yourself in for a relaxing evening.

A wonderfully historic hideaway in the beautifully picturesque town of Alston. The owners couldn't be more welcoming to all their visitors. The home cooked style food was perfect from the evening meals through to the excellent full English breakfast. A very well stocked bar makes the evening's warm and fly by. Jim certainly knows about gin — so ask him to recommend you one! You will not go wrong booking your stay here.

Nothing is ever too much (even a gin tasting evening! ) Jim is brilliant front of house, so welcoming and a gin bar to die for. The food is always amazing too. Can't recommend this place enough! Thanks for a brilliant night, can't wait for the next one. X.

Home from home with cosy bedrooms and first class made to order food. Varied menu with outstanding desserts (pre-order in advance to avoid disappointment! ). Amazing personal service and warm welcome from Jim, Janice & the rest of the team — nothing is too much trouble. Excellent selection of wine, beer (moretti on draft is worthy of particular mention) and speciality spirits including gin & rum all housed in the snug bar. We were lucky enough to benefit from beautiful weather during one summer visit and spent leisurely afternoons in the beer garden which has spectacular views across the Pennines. LBM is also just a short walk from the South Tynedale Railway and not far from the town's Market Cross making it an ideal location to explore and enjoy the surrounding area. Can't wait to return!

Met friends before a coast to coast, seemed nice.

On a motorcycle touring holiday having a 4 nights stay during beginning of May 2014. Enjoyable stay despite the weather, excellent breakfast and accommodation. Friendly hosts and will certainly visit again. Lots to do in the surrounding area; very central for Lakes, Pennines and North East Coast.

A welcome stop-over on a long drive south, with friendly hosts, warm comfortable room and an excellent breakfast to send me on my way again. I didn't get much time to appreciate the lovely countryside other than from my car — but the location also looked well worth exploring further.
