This place is nice, check-in was simple and friendly; staff are helpful and always available. Loses a star as food prices (for dinner) are quite high for what you get, and the choices are quite limited. There are 2 menus, bar prices are around £12 for simple stuff (sausages and mash, burger, etc). The restaurant menu is around £16-17 for fish, beef, pork or vegetarian, very simply cooked though good quality food. This menu changes each evening though always seems to centre around what is listed above. Since the food choices are limited the food is served very quickly which was good. The spa is good, and included in the price of the stay. There is a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, indoor pool and gym, all small but effective. If you are looking for a nice smallish hotel and don't mind spending a bit on food (or driving to one of the nearby pubs) I can recommend this hotel.

Stayed one night in one of the newly built family rooms overlooking the field. The room and toilet are very spacious. Beds are very comfortable. Friendly staff. Nice indoor pool. The breakfast is standard but good. It’s only 10 minutes drive to Windermere. Would highly recommend it to friends specially if having a car. I stayed in many hotels in Windermere, this one is good value for money and will stay here again when visiting the lakes.

Very pleasant hotel, great location to use as a base to explore LD. Kind of dated but not, as it is just typical of hotels from a particular time. If it was 100 years old people would call it quaint. We had a lovely big traditional room with a bathroom and a comfy bed, but there is a new annexe which has a more modern contemporary feel. There is a new spa area but we did not try that; too busy getting out there. Beautiful gardens to wander around with a huge duck pond. If you eat in the restaurant you will be joined by the ducks who come up to the windows looking to be fed. Great views from the bar and restaurant. I thought the food in the restaurant was very plain, safe, and rather expensive for what it was, but breakfast was all you can eat with plenty to go at. Enjoyed our stay here overall.

Great place for the entire family, especially for the kids. Fabulous food. Very friendly staff under the watchful eye of Wane, the GM. Would definitely recommend Damson.

Really good experience, it is a three star hotel so worth bearing that in mind. The rooms are rather petite however the lounge/foyer area is very elegant along with the bar and restaurant area. We had a dog with us and wanted her with us even during meals meaning we had to eat in the bar area (no problem) and the waiters/waitress were incredibly obliging and friendly. We used the Groupon deal which got us a few freebies on our visit which we thoroughly enjoyed. Honestly no complaints. 5/5

Great place. Loved the atmosphere and the service was lovely. A couple of issues such as a creaky floor. But nothing that you wouldn't expect considering it's a 3* hotel. Lovely food. Great setting and our dog loved it too! :) thanks guys.

Very dangerous near miss event in the pool 240 volt extension cable plugged in and a radio perched on a chair right at the pool side. Beyond belief that when I asked 2 times for them not to plug it in they still did so. No risk assessment available when I asked for them. The manager he was not there a d no competent member of staff was available either. I was told that risk assessment where only for the manager and were locked in a safe. I ask all 3 members of staff if they did risk assessment at all and all answering no shocking staff training appears to be non-existent. I have reported this near miss event to the H S E and hopefully there will sort this place out. I strongly recommend that you book some where else rather than be at risk.

A very pleasant experience, the hotel is going through a refurb, which does not interfere with your stay. It has old world charm with modern facilities, excellent food & good service.

Bedroom was newly built in an extension to the main building. Bathroom was spacious with a slipper bath and large shower. Bed was comfortable but only a double in size. We paid £10 extra for an upgrade for each night we stayed. We were led to believe it would be a four poster room when we booked the accommodation. The room was very nice but not what we thought we had booked. The restaurant was the area that let the hotel down. The food was very mediocre. Bacon was cold at breakfast. Only apples in the fruit bowl at breakfast. No bananas or other fresh fruit. Only tinned. Dinner was poor on the Sunday night. Limited choice. Staff were attentive. My only issue with the staff was an older guy not sure if he was the restaurant manager or the owner. His attention to detail was very poor. He kicked chairs out if the way! instead of pushing them back under the table. Didn't place napkins on the table but practically threw them on the table. The restaurant wasn't that busy so he couldn't say he was rushing. Only spoke to certain guests not to everybody. If they sorted the restaurant out the hotel could be brilliant. It's location is really good. Good views from the restaurant.

Me and my family went for Christmas hoping to get away from the rush that we experience every day by living in London. We could not be happier and this was far our best Christmas ever! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the hotel couldn't be any cosier, beautiful little lounge and nice and well kept rooms. We stayed in the new family rooms and they were clean and spacious. The food was very tasty, the bar had a nice view and board games which kept the children happy. I highly recommend this hotel, I came across with families that have spent Christmases with them for years and I can see why. Can't wait to go back!

Stayed for the 10th time a couple of weeks ago. A Lovely hotel and great staff and service. Have no hesitation in recommending it and will be returning for my 11th visit soon.

This in my opinion the best hotel in the UK, nothing is a hassle for the staff who make sure that you are treated like Royality — I stay in a range of 4 & 5 star hotels in the U. K. And the services doesn’t come close to Damson Dene — Highly Recommended 5 Star Service.

The hotel is a lovely location in the heart of the Lyth valley. The bedrooms are need of modernisation with the smallest shower that I have ever used. Nice selection of beers and spirits. The food is okay but nothing special. We were there for a party night and the fire alarm went off 4 times overnight meaning we had a very poor sleep. In the morning the receptionist was shattered as she had been on all night and the manager was no where to be found.

Booked a deal online. Then were phoned to say the pool and spa were closed. Could have put this on the website in the first place and saved us the bother. Not impressed. Changed my mind. Swallowed pride and booked. Fantastic place. Relaxing place. Will be back.

Lovely hotel, staff are all really friendly. It's a dog friendly hotel but we don't have dogs so we were a bit worried there might be hair everywhere! Fortunately, there isn't! Our room (52) seemed to be one of the newer ones and even had a toilet with a bum washer, very futuristic! The pool was adequate but on the small side with our 2 kids splashing close to older clientele. The dining areas, pool and gym are a bit tired looking but there seems to be a lot of work going on to upgrade and renovate (Not detrimental to our stay). Great location and only 10 minutes drive from Bowness and lake Windermere.

Staying for three nights with partner and baby. Lovely views from our bedroom, which also contained tea and coffee facilities, a television and very comfortable beds! A travel cot was provided for our son. The leisure facilities were great, with swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The breakfast was okay, buffet style full English so some of the food was quite dry from being under hear lamps too long. Excellent service though!

Great access to swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Breakfast was served buffet style. Everything delicious. Beds where very comfortable. They provided us with a travel cot for our 8 month old. Shower and bath provided in the room with great tea making facilities. So many ducks! Our son got to feed the ducks while we are breakfast. Room service was fast and friendly. My only problem with this place is the price. I felt I paid a modern price for a dated hotel. Plenty of history here, lovely surrounding area with a few pubs in walking distance. I just don't feel it was suited for me and my family as we don't drive and the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Taxi prices are a bit more expensive than what where used to. Basically if you're young, poor, and haven't got a car. I wouldn't recommend this place. But if you've got a car and a couple of quid to spare then sure, you'll have a wonderful time here.

I booked this hotel because we got married the day before in Windermere and the hotel looked amazing on the photos but we feel so let down: We were given cottage 3 which is away from the main hotel, the interior doors were all propped open using bricks. The door locked from the inside with a twist/turn lock but if you pushed the door handle it easily opened and unlocked the door, considering our children (age 2 and 7) were meant to sleep downstairs in the two single beds and us upstairs in double is very inappropriate and very very dangerous especially as there is a duck pond approx 100 meters away. We had to make up a bed on the floor for our son and use the travel cot for our daughter to which no bed sheets were provided. The child safety gate did not fit the stairwell properly and was unusable. There was an ironing board but no iron so we could not iron our clothes. Apart from this the staff were all friendly, the food was nice and views lovely.

As one of the ""STARS "" of the The Hotel T. V. Programme, How come I can never get a room? Finally did get a room. Dark, depressing, and dirty. With a mattress well over it's use by life. Overhead creaking lost me three nights sleep. The staff however, were A 1, as always. No doubt I will now be barred. I would also add, that, as I left my holiday early because of the awful room. (THE WOODLAND) I did ask for a refund for just the unused days, Surprisingly, I was totally ignored, even after numerous requests to the manager! Wayne Bartholomew. We had a superior room with a beautiful 4 poster bed and lovely jacuzzi bath, the room was lovely. Reception staff were lovely and nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was delicious, it was buffet style and if you didn't fancy a full English there was plenty of other things to have. This was our first stay at this hotel and it definitely won't be our last!

Enjoyed a wonderful two night break at this hotel. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was really well presented and excellent value for the money. Noted a couple of negative comments in some reviews, but notwithstanding this, my partner and I felt it was wonderful value for money, in a stunning setting and surrounded by very helpful staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. Loved the pool and jacuzzi and must say we were there with a large group of friends and not one of them had anything other than positive to say about this Hotel. Catalina was very sweet on reception, and as for Wayne, well words fail me! He is a great host and we just loved his quizz night. Will definitely be going back again.

Room nice, wasn't too keen on the dinner, breakfast good. The ducks next to the window in the restaurant was unique.

Stayed here for two nights in July 17, and had inclusive 3 course meal, cream tea and spa access. We enjoyed our stay, however, the hotel was quite tired looking, carpets were threadbare and decor quite old style. Room was average, but clean. The shower was lethal — not attached to the wall and fell on me whilst mid shower! The evening meal was below average. Definitely would not have paid full price! Pheasant both over and underdone — no mean feat! Spa facilities pretty limited. Cold jacuzzi and tiny steam room/sauna. Not 5star luxury. Staff were lovely — very friendly, and the location and exterior are beautiful. Only 10mins drive to Windermere. Wouldn't choose to stay here again, but all in all not totally unpleasant.

The reason for the visit was a dog friendly hotel in the Lakes to give our dogs and new car a work out. The hotel charges for dogs although they did not mention this when the booking was confirmed. The room was quite small and the hotel landings of a low standard. Had dinner which was wrongly billed and nothing special. Ducks beg during meal times. On the plus side there is a pool, gym and sauna which were free for guests to use. Overall the hotel is OK and reasonable value is get the right deal. Service is poor and rooms are basic but the breakfast was fine and the location OK too. Would I stay again… probably.

There are some pros. The parking is plenty and it is free. Breakfast is free. The property is beautiful. But mostly, there are negatives. We booked a double room. The bed was two twin beds pushed together with a double sheet over it. That didn't make for a very comfortable honeymoon experience. The drywall is breaking apart and cracking by the door. Other walls are all dented and knocked in. You can hear very clearly when your neighbors run any water. You can also hear your neighbors very clearly because the walls are super thin and the door is hollow core. The keys are from the 1800's and are humongous, which makes it inconvenient to travel with them. There isn't an air conditioner, and not all the windows open up. We were woken up at 5:30 by someone talking outside our window, which was open due to no air conditioning. No fan was provided until requested, and when given it didn't have a fan guard so it was an exposed blade. The views out the window is the hay field, which they were working on well past midnight. Breakfast was mediocer; while there was plenty of protein options and coffee was served, there were not any bread options except toast and no fresh fruit except apples (other fruit was canned). The staff was apparently overworked because the receptionist doubles as the bar tender and the headwaiter was obviously upset and yelling at his staff. There was no lift. You have to pay for phone calls within the UK.

The hotel is set back into the countryside. It was a very relaxing place to stay would fully recommend this place if you're looking to relax and get away from the stresses of work. The staff couldn't be any more helpfull if they tried and the food and beer are very nice. Also we had the spa treatments and would 100% recommend the back shoulders and neck massage we were made to feel at ease and comfortable through the whole weekend great place and will definitely be back.
