Amazing venue for any wedding or lavish party. The outside grounds are lovely for a picnic or get together with friends. My uncle got married here and it was truly exceptional. Highly recommended.

A beautiful hotel that lives up to its reputation. Beautiful grounds, fabulous food and the spa and pool were 10/10. We’ve had a brilliant stay and most enjoyed our private boat ride along the Thames, the champagne picnic was excellent!

Amazing Jubolee afternoon tea for my friends 40th birthday, staff were do attentive and freindly, the food was amazing a readily available, they presented a lively decorated birthday plate, we were able to take away what we couldn't eat in beautiful boxes, a lovely place to visit. Would highly recommend a visit clivden house.

Amazing place amazing service.

Just had the most delicious afternoon tea at Cliveden House, a Christmas treat for my mum. This visit did not disappoint, friendly, efficient and professional staff attend to your every need. The tea was delicious, we especially enjoyed the lamb and mint sausage rolls-melt in the mouth! The grounds the tea room look out over are beautiful, the decor is stunning, beautiful detail all of which had a festive touch. Would highly recommend a visit, we shall definitely return, thank you Cliveden House.

The staff were not very friendly, there was no atmosphere in the dining room, they failed to acknowledge that we were celebrating my mum’s (85th) birthday and then they charged £45 per head instead of the £40 stated in the menu On the table and in their website.
The toilets (only 2 ladies toilets) were dated and average. Definitely not what I expected.
As we left they didn’t even say goodbye or open the main door for us.
I have often wondered
What a stay at Cliveden would be like (this is my family’s favourite NT property to visit) but this visit for afternoon tea has made up my mind never to return to the hotel.

Just the most stunning place to stay with exceptional customer care.

Had tea and scone in the Conservatory cafe, very tasty only downside was, they do a cheese scone but no cream cheese and chutney to go with it, was told you have the same as fruit scone, don't think so. Wenf on the boat trip, down 172 steps bug lovely went to Cookham then back to Boulters Lock.

A beautiful house in beautiful grounds. The staff are lovely. The food is lovely and the rooms are lovely. What more could you ask for. We have just hosted a party to celebrate the birthday of my husband and I with friends and family. We have had a truly wonderful time. Thank you Cliveden.

What a pleasure it was to stay at Cliveden, the room was extremely clean, we loved the ambiance. The food was sumptuous, I had the best Beef Wellington I have ever eaten. The staff were extremely friendly, especially one of the Porters and the lovely Butler. … The Butler told us all about the history of Cliveden while we're having dinner, it was very informative, he had a great sense of humour. Would I ever stay again… Yes yes and yes, we cannot wait to go back and experience the fabulous spa, swim in the pool that was made famous due to the Profumo affair. A big thank you to the fantastic staff.

Wonderful gardens. So huge! You could easy spend all day. Such a lovely place to see the Thames and hire a boat. Finally a place that has lots of parking. No matter how busy you can be sure you can actually park and go see it.

Afternoon Tea for our daughters 23rd Birthday, lovely customer service excellent only downside was the strawberry jam was too runny for the scones, only fault.

Beautiful gardens and house. Be careful to check when the house is open beforehand if you want to go inside — as it isn't open all the time. The gardens are worth the trip on their own, however, as they are well kept and very popular for picnics. You can do the hedge maze, walk up the majestic drive form the car park or walk down the long stepped path to the river from the gardens. The house is used as a hotel, restaurant and spa and is stunning.

Fusty and old. Wonderful staff. This is where old rich white men and their wives come to hang out. It’s full of giant egos and stinks of privilege. The gardens are well worth a walk around — in particular down to the water. Spa staff are super friendly and nice. There is an ancient and beautiful swimming pool. If you book the hotel last minute they quite often offer super discounts.

I photographed an event at beautiful Cliveden in June 2018. The house and grounds are extraordinary and extremely well kept. The rooms used for the event I was amazing and very decadent. The terrace was lovely with fabulous views. The staff were also very helpful and I was driven to my car at the end of the evening by the very kind security personnel. Vanessa J White.

The service was good. The food was also very good, plus I asked for my husband's food intolerance to be taken in to consideration and it was. We were given a lovely table by the window looking out on to the gardens. The only issues we had were an ant in my daughter's drink which was rectified & not taking into account the fact that I had already paid in advance for the 3 course lunch. If not for this I would have given 4 stars.

This Italianate-style country home was built in the 1600s for the second Duke of Buckingham, and it has hosted presidents, royals, and celebrities ever since. At one point Cliveden House was owned by William Waldorf Astor, who was one of America’s richest men at the time. Charlie Chaplin and Winston Churchill were frequent guests here, but the hotel is arguably best known as the place as the site of the 1961 Profumo scandal, which helped topple the Prime Minister Harold Macmillan's government. Insider Tip: In 1961, Britain’s Conservative Secretary of State for War John Profumo began an affair with 19-year-old Christine Keeler while staying at Cliveden House. She was the rumored mistress of a Russian spy, and their affair brought down the government.

We stayed at Cliveden last summer and it was exceptional. Unfortunately, we stayed before the spa had finished its renovations so unfortunately we didn’t get to enjoy it however even without the spa this was a special weekend at a great hotel. The building and grounds are breathtaking and the service is fantastic. We stayed in a hot tub suite which was wonderfully furnished and the outside space and hot tub a real treat. The food was excellent, the beef Wellington particularly was sensational. Drinks equally delicious. Whilst staying at Cliveden we also enjoyed one of the boat trips with afternoon tea down the river which I strongly recommmend, particularly on a sunny day which we were lucky enough to experience. The only slight negative is that because Cliveden and it’s grounds are open to the public for day trips it can feel a bit busy on a particularly sunny day. But as I say this is only a minor draw back and certainly not enough to dissuade us from returning.

Elegant, comfortable, with stellar service and incredible charm, this is a wonderful English country house experience! I felt like I was living in a Jane Austen novel, but with more comfortable clothes, better climate control, and fun, attentive staff and kind guests (no drama! ). We could only stay one night because of our itinerary, but we would definitely return. The grounds provide wonderful opportunities for hiking and admiring the gardens. The residents' bar is a swell place for a sunset g&t, and the hotel restaurant had delicious food (beef Wellington! ) and great hospitality. If you're eating at Fat Duck in Bray, this is an easy cab ride away and a perfect place to start walking off a tasting menu.

Always enjoy a getaway at Cliveden. We usually like to make it a two week stay. As an R&C it is a step up from Oakley Court on Thames where we spend Christmas. Highly recommend for food and service. Colonel David.

Was only there as a visitor on a Bank Holiday and it was grossly overcrowded with visitors on a blindinly hot day. The cafe next to hotel didnt even give me the coffee I paid for after 15 mins wait and had to ask another member of staff for it. Not impressed.

Stunning place to visit with your partner or family. Even on a grey day it is worth the visit and the entrance fee. Being a National Trust member will get you in for free. The maze is a load of fun for old and young.

Came for afternoon tea. Really liked the traditional sandwiches, the extra roll and savoury scone were excellent additions. Perfectly done scones and delicious desserts. Good tea selection. The dining room was comfortably spacious, yet intimate at the same time. Friendly and helpful staff without being overly attentive.

I was at Cliveden for a meeting, the location of the hotel is superb with great views. It was a breakfast meeting and the food was very well presented and of a high standard. With the rooms starting at, £450 it's a little bit above personal budget. Go there and experience the ambience.

Amazing. Starting with the long drive from the main gate to approaching the property having driven past the main fountain, Cliveden is a delight. Amazing grounds, tasteful and traditional interior steeped in history. Having got married in the library six years previously, this time we visited to eat at the Astor Grill restaurant with friends, a small and cosy place in the converted stables. Tasty food and brilliant service. We would certainly visit again.

Great national trust property, wonderful grounds and stunning walks. Being able to drop down from the woods to the edge of the Thames is incredible.

Very disappointed with the service. It used to be fantastic but we felt the service in some areas was far from what we would have expected from any 5 star hotel, let alone cliveden. The service in the spa was the worst part where the staff did not seem to know what they were doing and the treatments were very poor. To cap it off, we have emailed the hotel manager Kevin to express our concerns, but have not even had a reply.

Alot of walking in the rain beautiful statues, but house is now a hotel so could nnot see much.

Stayed in the hotel and ate several meals there. 5 stars for the hotel, the food, the service, the pools etc. But ruined by the extremely poor and unprofessional therapist in the spa my wife had. She has been to maybe 100 spas around the world and this was by far the worst treatment, she ended up leaving. Mentioned it to the concierge but no action. Shame as everything else was perfect.

The cafe in the grounds serves 'flat whites' which are lattes. On return of the drink, a waitress explained that I should have gone to Costa instead. As there isn't one around, this was very annoying. She also insisted that it was a flat white. Apart from that, the scones were dry, the brownies moist and the drinks selecting ok.

Went to the Cliveden House for a drink and some food. Was super impressed beautiful surroundings and great service from the staff. Would go there again without a hesitation.

Toured the hotel as part of a visit of a national trust visit. Hotel looked impressive, but didn't stay/eat. Gardens are beautiful.

I had been gifted afternoon tea at Cliveden as a Christmas present. My partner and I had been looking forward to it as we'd visited the grounds a number of times before but never been into the hotel. We arrived to find that the tea was to be served in essentially the entrance hall and were seated facing the front door. Each time the door opened (which was frequently) we were subjected to gusts of wind, to the point we had kept our jackets on and were given a blanket to cover ourselves, something you do not expect to have to do indoors. When the tea arrived the sandwiches felt and tasted as though they had been out all afternoon which we thought to be unacceptable. It was my partner's birthday, something I had mentioned when making the booking weeks earlier, details had been taken but alas nothing had been arranged or remembered when we arrived, I had to mention it to a member of staff whose initial reaction was to say I should have mentioned it when booking. When described and priced as it is we had high expectations for Cliveden but unfortunately we were let down. We will not be rushing back or recommending to family or friends. My partner aptly described the experience and ambiance as "mediocre at best".

A completely insane wings layout, rescuing only what the name of the residing on the door of the room says. Good.

If you like indian food please Try The Taj Restaurant in 10 Carlton Parade Orpington Kent BR6 0JB open 7 days a week Monday to Saturday 5.30pm to 11.30pm and Sunday 5.30pm to 11.00pm.

Nice big park with some ornaments and nice views.

There are several beautiful cafes with a great selection of cakes, treats, meals, ice creams and drinks. There are beautiful boat rides available in the summer on the river and long walks are enjoyable in the 135 acres of woodland and beautiful gardens surrounding the house. Tours of the hotel must be booked in advance however and are only available on certain days. Otherwise perfect on a sunny day. For vintage car enthusiasts there are special car convention things, around once a year. Great as well for dog walks and suitable for young children and families. Picnics are a great and perfect idea for a visit here.
