Stunning stay in the Highcroft hot tub suite! Beautiful grounds, helpful and friendly staff — highly recommend a stay at the Crab & Boar.

Lovely night away in a beautiful place, couldn’t recommend this place enough a fantastic must stay for all couples.

The private hot tub was lovely, the food was amazing and the staff were all lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going again.

What an amaazing night away in one of the hot tub rooms, food was also amazing with breakfast in bed. Nothing was too much trouble for the landlord. Very accommodating and attentive to any request.

Booked for a meet with family half way so never had been before. Positives: nice venue and gardens and we had a table in a room to ourselves which was perfect. Dog friendly pub. Negatives: very slow service, constant upselling of drinks and food and not great when driving to be encourage to drink! food wasn't as good as it looked either, all courses were disappointing. Not a great impression and if we meet up again I'd probably try somewhere else. Booked this pub on the reviews as didn't know the area.

This is a great place to stay. We had a fantastic roomMassive bathroom etc could not fault Bit short on staff re getting a drink but that’s not an issue as everyone was so pleasant Would recommend.

Fantastic night away. Staff were friendly and attentive. Rooms beautifully decorated. We stayed in a Hot Tub room, amd thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing hot tub. Food was absolutely beautiful 🥰🤤 good selection of cocktails and wine. Would definitely recommend.

Highly recommended. Stayed in a room with hot tub. Brilliant facilities, Staff very welcoming and helpful. Food was fabulous, plenty to choose from and full of flavour. Good selection of drinks from the bar, Big wine list. Room is beautiful, lovely decor with a homely touches added. Will be returning again to this lovely place in the countryside. Overall I would give it a 10/10, 5* service.

Been here many a time to celebrate our anniversary — diversity aware — excellent service, food, rooms, hot tubs & value!

Hot tubs don’t work properly clear rooms are not checked properly as remotes were empty, on the morning of our stay seems staff had used our gate for quick access to the car park! Nothing privet at all, and cremated burgers … apart from that lovely stay.

Everything about this place is terrible. Dirty rooms, shocking service, incredibly rude staff that have lost the will to live — just to name a few. The manager in particular is the rudest man I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. Still to be told to "have a nice life" on exit is a nice takeaway. Whatever you do if you do make the terrible decision to stay here — do not complain about the food, they are not open to feedback in any way, shape or form. Owners of this place need to take a long hard look at themselves as they are fleecing honest people.

Absolutely terrible! The worst service and rudest staff (The manager in particular). The cold tap runs boiling hot water and hot cold (he told us this after we had to figure this out ourselves whilst bathing our Son). Terrible steak, rust in the shower, dirty baby changing facilities, and when we gave them this feedback in the morning, the manager said “We don’t care about reviews” and threatened to ruin my credibility (not sure what he meant by this). Anyway, avoid!

Stayed overnight in a hut tube suite. Room was fantastic and the staff were always on hand to help in any way they could.
Breakfast, dinner and the drinks! were all amazing.
Will definitely be staying again.

It was disgusting, ripped curtains, very dirty, toilet seat broken, dirty bathroom, tea stains on the wall! And very very dusty!

Good place for romantic dinner. Food is superb specially the meat is amazing. Little bit expensive but the service is top. Recommended.

Excellent food in this gastro pub. Had the lobster pasta which was incredibly tasty. Moderately expensive, not for those on a cash strapped budget.

Great place to get away to. Not much around but that's what we wanted — had a fun walk up to Tetbury. We stayed in an Ash Suite room which had a separate lounge, beautifully decorated. Dog friendly place. I plan to come back!

We stayed on Thursday 24th May and had booked a Hot tub room for a birthday night away, On arival we were very impressed with how the bar area looked and could not wait to have a look at the room itself, how disappointed we were… The room itself was VERY tired and needs urgent repair / makeover. I won't go into the details as its a long list. Food and Staff were great however its missing all the basic things and small touches. We spoke with the manager and had a refund on the room but was happy to pay for all the food and drinks. It seems the crab & boar were taken over last year which sadly the standard seems to be below average … such a shame. Room Name Eastley.

Stopped by for lunch while driving from London to Bristol. You can order a la carte or choose the menu options fairly priced £20 for 2 and £25 for 3 courses. Delicious food, friendly service, beautiful decor. Dog friendly and large free parking area. Highly recommended.

Stylish county chic at its best. The rooms are generously sized and very comfortable. Mattress is amazing. Restaurant is also excellent. My morning omelette was the best I’ve had.

Very posh gastro pub in the boonies. Great food, no skimping on quantity, and really friendly owners and staff. Wish it was summer though as the outdoor seating looked brilliant :)

We stayed here for two nights. Everything about the Crab and Boar was excellent — the warm welcome, service and courtesy at all times, our delightful quiet room with a generous bathroom, the outstanding dinner, and two great breakfasts. Moreover, it is genuinely dogfriendly (liberal offers of water bowls and treats) — Daisy gives it a paws up!
We are very happy to highly recommend this lovely place.

Good food. A good balanced wine list that had a nice Chilean sauvignon blanc at £26 and a much better New Zealand one at £36. The food is good and well presented & served together timely. Menu choices are good but no specials. The ambiance is really good. The building is just great for a restaurant. Go to The Crab & Boar. It can be quite cheap if you want it to be. It can be quite expensive & special too. I love this in a restaurant. You get to go there & decide what sort of spend you want.

One of the best places to stay in the area! The staff were amazing and made the stay so special. My partner is celiac, and the choices were fantastic, I would definitely recommend eating at the restaurant, the food was amazing. Overall, absolutely no complaints, and I will be going back!

Very disappointed! Called to book a room for 30th March and dinner for 8 (1st wedding Anniversary) and told minimum of 2 nights even though told differently the previous evening-

Went to this hotel for our anniversary weekend in one of the themed hot-tub rooms stayed in the tiki room. Room was lovely, didn't use the hotel restaurant. Major flaw with these rooms in that the hot-tubs are massively overlooked. The "fence" around the private garden is more of a divide than a fence which you can see through and there are upstairs rooms that look out over the gardens and got tubs. Massively marred our stay. But misleading saying private hot-tub rooms.

Very good experience. Food and service were excellent. Not cheap but worth the price. Lovely atmosphere and quality furnishings. Recommended.

Love this as a meeting place for lunch for my brother from London and me and mine from Cardiff. Very enjoyable, good food and scope for youngsters to enjoy them selves too.

Food at the restaurant was really nice had the steak cooked jus right medium/well. The room was warm for December and Jacuzzi.

You want a great meal. I am very hard to please specifically working in exclusive restaurants for 30 years, being a manager of my own company I am a sommelier with a father who was head chef. I traveled 40 mikes and was worth it. Amazing food that is on the same level like any fine dining restaurant just the portions are larger and cost is half. It is clean, cosy friendly and Chef Vincenzo Italian in origin has really wowed me an my partner. Very tasty filling dishes. Short but excellent wines list and the wine by the glasses are good variety, tasty and great value. Great beers on tap. Try this place with confidence. We just fancied the name and tried it. Will return.

Visited earlier this year in Feb with my partner. Gorgeous setting, lovely rooms and the food was nice and the hot tubs a great addition —
Unfortunately I did not have the nicest experience with one staff member. He appeared to be a senior member of staff. We were staying for 2 nights and went to have dinner on the first night. We ordered a bottle of Marlborough (my fav) to which the gentleman said to me ‘you do know that the bottle costs _£45’ as if to suggest that I couldn’t afford it. I wanted to call him out on it but did not want to spoil my evening. I just replied ‘I can see that thank you’ and carried on with my order. Tip for the general manager — please train your staff to not engage in casual racism to paying guests. Many thanks.

We were met and seated promptly, but then had to wait over 10 minutes to have our drinks order taken. We’d not been supplied with drinks menus though, so when the waitress returned with them I didn't want to wait another 10 minutes. I asked about wine recommendations to speed things up. "I don't know anything about wine" she said. Ok. We tried our luck with a Merlot and a Chablis. Both a bit flavourless. Probably our fault\choice. My food arrived, packed on to an oval plate that could probably only really hold a burger and some fries. I had no room to cut my food or move it around: it fell onto the table. Beef: advertised on the menu as aged and locally sourced. It arrived very very rare and bloody. If it’s aged does it still contain that much blood, like a sauce? I always have my steak rare anyway so this was not a problem per se. The problem was that my knife was completely inadequate for cutting through the meat. I asked for a steak knife (and took the opportunity to point out the plate was too small), which also failed to cut properly. I’ve frequently eaten rare beef so soft that it can be pulled apart by the tongue. This had many sinewy fibres (very peculiar if indeed it was aged) and after 20+ chews did not break down in the mouth for swallowing: it went down as one piece. Awful. Roast potatoes: should be light and fluffy inside, crisp outside. These were hard and dry inside, thin semi-crisp outer. Brussels: halved and charred on one side. Seemed undercooked.

Had a lovely weekend away — we booked last minute so didn't get a room with a hot tub but it was still a nice room, very clean, very comfy. Great for dog owners as can take them into bar and area of restaurant as well as good walks straight outside. Staff all very friendly. Food was great, we had dinner and breakfast there. Tried oysters for first time Bar prices a little high for my liking — £8 for a glass of wine and £5 for a pint but that was my only negative. Will definitely be going back, this time with more notice so we can have a hot tub.

Just wish they stop changing what they do. Really like the Crab and Boar, food is great and good beer. However, in the last year they must’ve changed 5 or 6 times whether they serve bar snacks or not. You want to know what a pub does and when they keep changing it’s really annoying. We arrive, often walking or by bike, expecting bar snacks — as they did that last time and they have decided that they aren’t doing that today. I quote the bar staff “yeah, (shrug) they seem to make it up as they go along”

Excellent food — so glad we drove off the M4 to eat here as it was definitely worthwhile. Octopus starter and pea risotto were excellent as was the rest of the meal.

Stayed overnight in a hot tub room as a birthday treat as is on the expensive side. The whole place seems to have had a bit of a refurb since our last visit when it was The Crab. The Sunday lunch menu was lovely but limited as was the breakfast menu. Will most definitely be having future birthdays trips here.

Pleasant atmosphere​ with nice decor. Good service without being rushed. The food was freshly prepared and perfectly cooked although all this came at a cost. If you are looking for an economical experience then this venue may not be for you.

Good location, accessible but quiet; attractive garden seating for dining and drinking. Decent selection of drinks, friendly bartender more than willing to put the effort into a cocktail. Lovely food, I'd recommend the pork belly and the risotto. Attentive service without being overbearing, all staff seemed happy.

I cant find one bad thing to say about this place. Myself and my partner stayed in the Lilie room with hot tub. The room was clean, tea and coffee was provided and the food and service was just great. Polite and friendly staff. Would defo recommend.

Have not stayed here, but the restaurant is excellent. May 2017, new management. Ignore any prior reviews. The food and service was even better than before. One of the best meals I have had. The new managers Debbie and Roger took time to introduce themselves and ask for feedback. Give it a try before it gets too hard to get a booking!

This was third on a list of places we wanted to eat Saturday lunch. The first was full and the second closed. Thank goodness as it meant we ended up here instead and had a wonderful meal. The food was of a very high standard with their signature starter of crab and boar fresh and tasty. The portions of stone sea bass on a bed of samphire were generous and my local venison beautifully pink and full of flavour. I liked the touch of the circle of celeriac. The staff were friendly and attentive and the decor and layout of the pub is attractive. If you are in the Newbury area don't bother trying anywhere else.

The food was lovely and the staff were very accommodating but the upkeep of the rooms wasn't top standard. There were sockets hanging off the wall in the room and some rubbish from the last guests next to the hot tub. The bedroom didn't have a phone and the man in reception said it's because the rooms had just been renovated, which didn't seem to be the case. Overall it was very nice but it's the attention to the little details that is lacking.

Food has been really lovely and all the staff are very accommodating. Slight hiccups with the room ie plug sockets falling out, trash left from previous guests etc but not problematic in the grand scheme.

New restaurant and bar layout is much better than it used to be asafe the crab. Excellent selection of real ale on tap and great bar food. Service very friendly and lovely atmosphere with cosy real fire and leather chairs. Highly recommend a visit.

Went for lunch with a friend, the place was really empty — more staff than customers. There was a mishap in the kitchen and my lunch was dropped by the chef so we were offered a complimentary amuse bouche which was pleasant and the fresh bread and butter is delicious so no need for a starter, My main course, a tandoori salmon dish, was fab however we found the service a bit "clumsy". Not really slick like you'd expect from a top dollar place like this. I would say one can't fault the food but do some offers for Jan/Feb to get locals in and some better staff training and it will be a brilliant place.

We came here for my boyfriends birthday present. The most beautifully laid out pub we have ever been too hidden in the beautiful countryside. Our room was stunning and had everything we needed. The hot tub was amazing and we were very lucky to have a clear night so we could see the stars. The bar staff and waitress Naomi were all very friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely beautiful and they had a lovely wine list. The breakfast was delicious and check out time is spot on. We honestly can not fault this pub with anything, the owners are lovely and have great taste. The decor was quirky and fun and we will definitely be coming back again for another special occasion, worth every single penny :) thank you for making my boyfriends birthday a wonderful evening Kellie xxx.

An amazing place. The decor and atmosphere as we came in we knew it was going to be special. The head waiter was very memorable and very enthusiastic. The fish. Wow I had seasonal specials and they were amazing. The scallops cooked to perfection. We'd definitely come back.
