This was our first stay here & I was really impressed/pleased! We arrived late, about 11p, for an oceanfront efficiency room. Check in went smoothly, the room was nice and tidy! As a former housekeeper — some things stick with you & you naturally look/check! All was well. The room was well kept, furniture was in great shape! My only complaints — we had less than 1/2 a roll of toilet paper, and was not restocked with more. & the TV did weird things, such as randomly going to Spanish mode, and narrative talking on some of the shows. The remote needed batteries. These are small things tho in comparison! Thank you for a great stay, Schooner Inn! 🌊

Location is perfect, views are wonderful. This hotel is old but well maintained and well loved. The staff were wonderful, the pool was inviting and well maintained, and the experience was awesome! This is the only place we stay in Virginia Beach! It is no frills, but so well maintained that we love it!

We stayed at the schooner inn for the first time even tho some things were still closed due to Covid it was wonderful! we will deff be returning! the rooms were huge, the balcony was large also, the hotel staff was very helpful and so inviting!

I love the location. I love sitting oceanfront watching the dolphins and the boats going in and out of the bay to the ocean. I love the clean rooms. The friendly and helpful staff. The beds are comfy as well. I like that you can get a jacuzzi room or an efficiency room / handicap room or a room with a kitchenette. I love you can overlook the people walking or riding. At Christmas time you can sit on the balcony and watch the drive thru lights on the Boardwalk. A wonderful playground is close by on the beach and it's not far from some awesome food places plus they support cancer research. Win win. If you have a superiority complex and need to self indulge in luxuries this place is not for you. I like real. I like kindness. I like clean beyond just the surface. It's the moments I live for. The memories.

We recently stayed here while in VB for a wedding. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and reasonable priced. Had a beautiful ocean view with balcony with chairs to enjoy the ocean, dolphins and sunrise! Room equipped with heart shaped jacuzzi and mini kitchen complete with dishes. We will deff stay again!

The property is nice and clean and the location is fantastic. The housekeeping and maintenance staff are excellent. However the front desk staff are a nightmare! they are rude, passive-aggressive, confrontational, and unhelpful. As there is no way to avoid interacting with the front desk staff particularly during check-in, I do recommend this hotel but with that caveat. If the owners or managers of the property would decide to change the front desk staff or provide some training and supervision with discipline, it could improve. As it is, we will not stay there again because of the way that we were treated by the front desk staff specifically.

Best place to stay on the beach! Quiet, clean, & perfect location.

I stayed at the hotel last week and they charged me a extra night. No one can seem to find out why and they are denying that they even over charged me! The manager Janet is very rude and disrespectful! She avoided me Friday and has now hung up on me twice! I called back a third time asking for her managers information. She told me she's the boss, the hotel is privately owned, and that I wouldn't be able to speak to anyone else at all. I said so your the owner… she then threatened to call the cops on me if I called back again and she hung up… Horrible place, stay away!

Lovely location with awesome views, great rooms & friendly hosts.

Schooner Inn is the very first hotel on the boardwalk, and we don't drive so we have walked many many miles this week going to eat, getting to the atm and grocery store, exploring, and getting massages. It's totally worth it though, for our amazing view and our room with a balcony and 2-person jacuzzi tub. We are loving our stay. The beach is less crowded since we're all the way at the end, and there are transportation options if we chose to use them. There are the standard bike and surrey rentals all along the boardwalk, and there are trolleys that run down Atlantic Avenue. I would absolutely stay here again.

First time staying here, recommended by my son. Stayed for 3 nights. Biggest virtue is its location. Quick check in, efficient front desk, but not very engaging. Cleaning crew friendly and concerned. Quiet, safe, clean, not congested. No sand in hallways or the room despite being on the beach. In general hotel is kept up, but starting to show its age. Looks like a recent paint job, but areas of rust are still showing. Door to the room kept sticking and needed to be forced to close. Room is clean and spacious, but no real work area, just a small table with barely room to eat. I suppose one should not come to Virginia Beach with work to do, but it happens. AC is noisy. Bed firm, but bouncy. Mattress starting to feel its age. Mattress cover kept bunching up, interfering with sleep and comfort; needs to be replaced. Mini-fridge with freezer compartment, utensils and plates, bowls, plastic glasses. Toaster. Dishwasher. Internet is subpar, some stuttering of BBC and other videos off and on. Every 12 hours or so we had to resubmit the password after being kicked off without warning. This had not been a problem in any other place we have stayed in so far. Swimming pool is kept up regularly. Parking is free. No breakfast. Get the view on the ocean! Hotel located at the southern end of the boardwalk. When you make a reservation, be clear on what kind of room you want as there is significant variation.

Everything here is great except for the handicap accessible bathroom, specifically the tub/shower. There are grab bars on the shower wall and that is good. However, it is difficult for someone who has challenged mobility to climb in to the tub. A shower wand would be a wonderful addition. That would certainly make it a lot easier helping someone who is handicapped get a shower.

Older hotel in the best location, as far as I'm concerned. Hotel is nothing fancy, but its clean and the people who run it and employees are exceptionally nice and helpful. Located right next to the Inlet where you can watch the different boats come in and out all day long and right on the ocean, whether you get an oceanfront room or a pool view (back side of the hotel where you come in) you will have an excellent view either way as you will get a view of the inlet on the entrance side. No restaurant but plenty of restaurants and entertainment in the immediate area. We enjoyed it!

Wow, this place is amazing! Everything felt like you were staying in a 5 star hotel at a 2 star price! We just got back to Kentucky today after staying 5 nights. View of the ocean from our room and out on our balcony as picture perfect! I'll be back many more times. Only thing I would knock off a point I'd they don't have a breakfast.

Overall the place was great. The rooms are spacious with beautiful windows that overlook the beach. Schooner Inn is normally in the quiet area of the boardwalk but this past weekend was the patriotic festival which had a concert on the beach Friday night Saturday night and Sunday night. I would imagine that due to this event, there were allot of people drunk making all kinds of noise throughout the night. A couple times I woke up in the middle of the night from yelling and things crashing in the rooms around me. This is why I’m only giving it 4 stars. Other than this the staff was very friendly, willing to talk and have causal conversation. The location was great, rooms were nice, the fridge was a bit small, the pool was available as well. It’s not the fanciest inn that I’ve been too, but it was a good place, with great customer service.

Nice accommodations and on end of beach boardwalk so less congested then center of boardwalk. Trolly picks up there and this costs $4.50 for day pass to get on and off as you wish. Rooms were not as clean as you may like and some people smoke on balcony even though it is a smoke free room. Not called but still they do. Somewhat noisy as doors are on open walkways and luggage rolling and some minimal traffic can be heard. Neighbors are also heard in rooms that have adjoining doors. No help but to request desk to tell them they are heard. Chairs in and on deck if dragged are seriously loud. Laundry is in building and great help. Shower water pressure was good in our room. Enjoyed the hot tub in our room too. Not all rooms have this. Great ocean view from room we had. I will likely stay again but bring my own disinfectant wipes for bath and tub and counters. Some days we had good cleaning others we did not. Be firm with staff if making any requests such as room cleaning or any other services.

Is one of the best places to stay in va beach. Especially if you have kids because there is a huge playground next to it and they have suites with jacuzzi tub. My kids it. They were able to swim in the jacuzzi tub late night.

First time staying at Schooner Inn. Absolutely loved it! The Staff was Amazing! From Housekeeping to front desk, even Maintenance. Very very clean, prices are great. A little smaller and older than the big fancy chain hotels on the boardwalk. But I'll happily stay with a smaller, friendlier Family Owned establishment before the chains. We even extended our stay for 2 days, and we r going back end of season. Thank — you James, Robert, Janet, Skylar, Vince and the others I do not remember their names. Fantastic staff, Fantastic Hotel! See u at the end of Summer.

Great location, the very first Inn (lodging) at south end of beach. Large rooms with balcony, excellent choice of TV channels. Most rooms are Beach front, polite staff. Comfortable bedding. Frig, microwave.

Clean room with plenty of amenities. Stove top, fridge, flat screen TV and even cutlery. Although the hotel is older the location is great and especially for the money. The staff were also great.

This is the third time we've stayed here and we have been supremely happy each time. We have always chosen the king whirlpool suite and the off-season and couldn't be happier with the price or the accomodations. Thank you to the staff for maintaining such a consistent, quality experience.

Stayed for 3 days with my two kids. Our room was very clean and we had a great view of the ocean from the 2nd floor. Perfect for just the 3 of us with 2 double beds. I'm only giving 4 stars since as other reviews have stated, the walls are thin. We could hear guests in the next room and above us. I was woken up at midnight to someone running their jacuzzi in their room. I wasn't thrilled about that, but nothing you can really do. Close to Grommets Island so my kids really enjoyed that.

Great area to stay but no AC from Oct to May. Room did not drop below 80. They offered a fan. I shouldn't have to pay 140 a night for crappy service. It would have been nice to know that before I booked.

I've stayed here twice. Great place to stay. Nice clean updated rooms. Huge pool. In a quieter section of Virginia beach! Have no complaints what so ever!

The hotel deserves ZERO STARS for customer service and James who works 3rd shift needs to be FIRED! When I asked for the issues to be fixed with our room I was told if I thought I was someone special I would be staying down the road at the Hyatt. When we checked in our AC was broken, they "fixed" it. We left for 4 hrs let the room cool off. We came back and it had cooled off a little so we tried to use the jacuzzi that was broken. Went downstairs to discuss this with James and he was completely obnoxious about fixing the issues. He then involved another guest in our exchange, I have video proof! The was also open alcoholic containers in the lobby which is illegal! We left and cancelled our reservation for November as well. The other things they don't tell you about this subpar establishment is your room is temperature controlled so it you like sweating this is the place for you! The balcony is SO tiny you can barley fit 2 people on it. Also there is a good reason the woman on their website is sitting ON TOP of the jacuzzi… you can't see the ocean if you are ACTUALLY IN the jacuzzi. Don't worry James assured me because I expected him to assist with the broken items in our room I will be on the Do not Rent List… lol you couldn't pay me to stay there again! UPDATE TO THIS POST: MANAGEMENT SUCKS! HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED THAT JOHN THE OPERATIONS MANAGER WOULD CONTACT IMMEDIATELY, NEVER HAPPENED! Just wanted to update Management NEVER resolved anything!

Nice hotel with awesome views of the oceanfront. It's located right next to the beach park. My suite had a full kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and small sink. The staff are pretty friendly and helpful. Parking can be a bit of a pain though.

Hot tub barley works. Looks like love stains on the carpet. Have a pool and it's heated just not year round so I don't know what that means. It's the off season as well. So quiet right now. View is nice though. Staff is bare min.

A pretty good place to stay. It's a little dated, room doors open to outside, South end of the oceanfront (not much near by, except Watermans), but with all of that it is fine. Not great, although there is great views from Just about everywhere. Ocean front views and Rudee Inlet views to the west. Just want to give an honest review. 3.5 stars, if I could leave a half star.

We have stayed at Schooner Inn several times. The rooms are older but clean. The receptionist is awesome. The cleaning people are very friendly. It's at the quiet end of the Boardwalk. Schooner Inn is great for families and there is a lot to do nearby.

The hotel itself was very nice. The room was also very nice, and clean. We were given fresh towels every day. The only downfall was the pillows. My husband had asked for extra, but they were just so awful it didn't help (but that is most hotels anymore). We will bring our own next time. We did however love the fact that the hotel is situated at the end of the beach, which meant less people around. We will definitely be staying there again in the future.

Great views from the balcony. Right of the boardwalk and within walking and biking distance to everywhere. The staff was super kind and helpful. The rooms had everything you could need. Will be back soon!

My wife and I looked up hotels that were close to the boardwalk and affordable. We found this one and it was just what we wanted. Staff were nice, good places to park, and you are near the boardwalk but far enough that you are in the quiet part. What really sets this apart from other places is it has a jacuzzi in the room. Definitely recommend this place if you want a cheap room at the VA beach area.

Customer service at it's worst! If I could give them no stars I would. James should never work with the public ever. Schooner should be ashamed to have him on payroll. After he was rude and obnxious about fixing broken items, (AC and jacuzzi) he decided to be demeaning because of where I am from. When I asked for his name he said, "Oh your from Flint MI, let me spell it for you to make sure you get it right. And proceeded to spell his name. At that point I decided to leave and cancel future reservations. Most unprofessional encounter I have ever dealt with. He seems very displeased to work at Schooner, he made it clear that if you expect for everything to work in your room you need to stay a better hotel on the strip.

My Husband and I were married on the beach right down by the Rudy Inlet and we stayed in Schooner Inn and we have returned there every year now for 5 years in our Anniversary the staff is always willing to work with us and help us and we always have wonderful house keeping. The rooms are very nice. It is an older building but they keep it up very nice. We will continue to go every year on our anniversary. Love it.

Great low budget hotel. Customer service and relations to the guest needs some work. Everyone should be treated equally. But overall great hotel. Room was clean, and bed was comfy.

The staff was great rooms where nice everything you need microwave refrigerator coffee pot hair dryer iron safe lots of TV channels now for the down fall which alot of people might think is a good thing the facility is 100% smoke free as in the rooms and even the balconies. Over all really nice place without having to pay a ridiculous price. Oh yes and did I mention the staff so very nice and friendly. Especially the house keeping on the 3rd floor.

We woke up and decided to go to VA beach. We found schooner inn and they had one room left so we took it. We were pleasantly surprised! The room was nice and clean and affordable! The room had a little kitchenette which came in handy with 3 kids. They also have nice rooms on ground level that you can walk right out onto the boardwalk and beach. The staff was helpful and friendly! The pool area was nice also!

Clean, well located, friendly staff, but old and very poorly insulated! I advice all the same if the noise is not a problem for you!

We stayed here while visiting Virginia Beach over a weekend. The location is good, the views from the balcony are amazing, and the room size is also excellent. We stayed in one of the "efficiencies" which had 2 double beds and a full kitchen area. The room was rather spacious for what it was; my only complaints are the location of the bathroom… the bathroom door is right next to one of the beds so it's a little tight getting to the bathroom; and the door to our room was rather noisy when storms came through overnight… it was whistling and howling when the wind was blowing hard. Of note; this hotel does not have any on-site restaurant or room service. You'd have to go at least a block away to get to any restaurants.

Stayed three nights with my family and Loved it! Clean throughout… no bed bugs. Great stay! Pool is small but nice. Overall good hotel, very quiet location. I would stay again.

I have stayed here 3 times in the past 2 years. MY FAVORITE PLACE by far! I love the location! The staff is very friendly! VERY! If there is an issue with your room, they jump to it on getting even the most minor things fixed. Regular maintenance is needed anywhere you go, so this isn't a downfall. It is convenient to some really nice restaurants and shopping and the Marina. My only wish is that they would decide to become a PET FRIENDLY place. It's difficult leaving my fur baby behind. Nice, clean rooms too! Every kitchenette is supplied with dishes, cookware, silverware and they supply you with dish detergent, dish cloths and drying towels. They also have a toaster, a microwave oven, mini fridge with plenty of room, iron & ironing board, a safe in the room and a hairdryer. The next time I go, I hope to get a room with a Whirlpool Spa. Very nice heated pool "outside" too! Please tip your housekeepers! They work very hard!

Aside from the parking, which is very tight at times, the Schooner Inn is wonderful. The rooms are spacious, and clean, the beds are super cozy, the shower is amazing, and our beachfront view is glorious! Having a stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and sink is a nice touch. Before I forget, the staff is extremely nice and helpful! My family and I will definitely stay at the Schooner Inn again, the next time we come to VaBeach.

We stayed 3 days and just love The Schooner Inn! the room was comfortable, The Bed was the most comfortable of any place we have ever stayed! The staff was helpful, friendly and courteous! This is our place to stay when we return!

This was the 3rd time staying at the Schooner Inn, the 1st time we had a king room with the heart shaped hot tub, it was very awesome to relax while enjoying the beautiful ocean. The 2nd & now 3rd time we were in the king room on the 6th floor with kitten net. We celebrated our 19th anniversary & this time a romantic getaway, we loved the room and location
We will definitely be coming back soon.

It is right on the beach, which is a huge plus. You do need to bring the card you made your original reservation under, which I did not, so that slowed the check-in process. The rooms are standard in that the bed is average, the sheets average, the decor average, the bathroom, average. There is a heart-shaped whirlpool tub and that is nice and romantic. The view of the ocean is lovely. Overall, it has been a solid 3 stay. Nothing so great, but nothing so awful.

My fiance and I looked for a place for us two to get away for vacation. This is the second year we have come to virginia beach. The schooner in looked really niice. And it Def held up to our expectations for what we wanted for the price we were looking for. We stayed from June 6th to the 1212th and it was around $1000. The first night we had to stay in a double bed room with hot tub cause the room we wanted was not available until the next day. So graciously they worked with us and booked the rest of our stay in the room we wanted. The king bed with a hot tub in the room. It is a little dated but it was perfect for us. If you want fancy then pay $2500 for a week at holiday in oceanside. But if you want laid back low key oceanside with a private balcony then schooner in is a good place I reccomend.

Good hotel for the price. Rooms were well maintained. Bathroom could use a bit of a scrubbing but overall good. They had kind of a weird way of payment for rooms though. They only charged me for one night when I booked then they charged me for the second night when I arrived, so be warned about that. Excellent for being oceanfront though.

Bad bad! Don't stay here! Not worth the money! Paper thin walls and unsanitary place! We swam in the pool on Saturday night manager maintained pool that night. Sunday night manager on duty told us we couldn't swim because it hadn't been inspected by health department so they didn't know if it was safe and that they could be shut down if we swam! Paid way too much money for a Dr appt stay! Paid 400 + for 3 nights no kitchenette couldn't sleep when requested a new room at same cost or cheaper they refused. Will NEVER return!

Amazing room, perfect for our little romantic getaway. Everything was clean and neat. Not the most modern or stylish hotel ever but the beds were comfortable and you can't beat the view!

Clean hotel away from the crowded end of the boardwalk. Great ocean views with hot tubs in the rooms. We stay here once a year during the off season.

First trip to va beach for my birthday weekend was here in August. The place was very nice and was close to everything. Very nice weekend.

Great clean ocean front hotel! I stay there as much as possible.

The room was clean. The jacuzzi was nice BUT the jets weren't powerful AT ALL. A/C was broken but maintenance was able to fix it upon request. Woke up the first morning there and grabbed the coffee provided to make a cup of coffee and a million ants scattered across the counter. Tried to call the front desk and the phone wasn't working. Went to the front desk to let them know about the ants. Asked to change rooms but they said they were completely booked. I got an apology but that was it. They did not offer to discount my room or anything. Overall, it was okay but for the price I paid for 2 nights ($240), I could stay somewhere way nicer next time and be more satisfied with my stay.

My girlfriend and I always stay here when we go to Virginia Beach. The rooms have always been very clean and in working order. It's very affordable even for the oceanfront room with the King bed. We have even come during the cold months just to get away. It's not super fancy but so far I haven't been tempted enough to try any other hotel. My only peeve is that the stairs always smell awful (like pee and beach water) but thankfully there is an elevator. :)
