Stop! do not book your stay until you have read all of the lower rated reviews as they are accurate. (I CHOSE TO IGNORE THEM AND WAS LURED IN BY THE WEBSITE PHOTOS) If you are okay with paying $500+ a night for musty, dingy, outdated rooms and facilities, then go ahead and stay here. Cobwebs everywhere, outside and in. The photos on the website are beautiful, but when you get there you can see that nothing has been updated probably since they opened in the early 1980's (not talking about the antique furniture, or 1800's library, but the bathroom that has moldy grout and dirty carpeting that can only be vacuumed so much). Our room was the library suite which is listed at $525 per night. It is on the ground floor. Because of the mustiness and strong smell of the firewood, we had to leave the window open the entire time. We now had no privacy as it opened right onto the outdoor eating area. That didn't seem too bad during breakfast and dinner, but on our last night, there was a wedding right in front (approximately 15-20 feet away). We were hesitant to turn on our TV, or even speak to each other as we did not want to disturb the ceremony. My wife and I decided to just return home (6 hours away) and take a financial loss, rather than the spend another night. The reviews on the service are quite accurate as well, it is very haphazard. If your room is on an upper floor, there is a good possibility you will be carrying your own stuff up and/or down, and there are no elevators. Overall, it was a good trip, but more because of what we did, then where we stayed. Having stayed at other hotels in the similar price range, I did not feel this was a good value.
