We were there for a wedding. Venue is beautiful, delicious food and great atmosphere.

Had a wonderful meal with wonderful atmosphere. Service was excellent, drinks were delicious and the food was perfectly cooked. Enjoyed a 10% discount on the bakery on they way out with dinner receipt. I highly recommend it.

Loved this place. Absolutely gorgeous and quant. Clean and spacious rooms. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the staff was so nice. This is my new favorite getaway and can’t wait to return!

Upstairs room wasn’t open so had to eat on ground floor. Food was excellent (chicken dinner & Crab sandwich) but service was lamentable, took ages to be served and server didn’t seem to be very observant, and told us no specials, but on way out there was a specials board albeit facing wrong way! We did express these feelings to the Host on the way out who asked for details and seemed to take our comments onboard.

We went for lunch without reservations but, luckily got seats at the bar. The waitress was awesome working so hard to take care of everyone. Food was delicious… lots of leftovers …. Bakery is awesome. Flowers are spectacular…. Cannot wait to go back to see the Christmas decorations!

We went for my mother-in-law's birthday and we had a group of about 20 people. The food was fantastic. The servers were friendly. And we even got a brief history of the building which was fascinating. That was not part of the dinner, we just happened to take to someone who knew about the building. It is a very nice venue and I would definitely go there again.

My family and I stay here for one night every year on the way to New Hampshire. We look forward to coming here. The rooms are spacious and clean and the rates are reasonable. They offer complimentary coffee and tea and a choice of bakery items. The grounds are beautifully kept. The staff is friendly and helpful.

My wife and I love going to the Public House for weekend getaways and such. We've stayed in the motel when the dogs come along. Perfectly clean and decent. But the rooms in the inn are our favorite. So much historic charm. We have stayed in smaller queen bed rooms and a larger king bed room. Both were clean with comfortable beds. It is nice to have good food in the restaurant, drinks in the tavern then just go upstairs to your room. Finally the complementary coffees and pecan rolls are delicious in the morning.

Stayed two nights for my brother's beautiful wedding. As the best man, I was close to many of the details with the planning. The venue was so well laid out. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The event was planned outdoors rain or shine (and it did rain). Though, the ceremony went off without a hitch. The coordination of the schedule was perfect. Food and beverages were top notch. We also had breakfast on site both days — again, excellent quality and flavor. Room accommodations were clean and comfortable. Easy access to everything we needed to be a part of and also had some time to explore the compound. John and Paige were super helpful along the way, too. Perfect 5-star weekend. Thank you.

We broke down on our way to a Patriots game and found this wonderful place to stay. The staff is amazing and friendly. The Bake House provides awesome bake good and coffee. We ate lunch at the restaurant which served delicious treats with a large drink selection, our waitress Rachel was outstanding. The grounds & landscaping are simply magical & well kept. On top of all of this it has a great history with such guests as George Washington & Ben Franklin. Highly recommend this place.

The food and atmosphere was great. However the place smells like crayons. I'm pretty sure it's because it was built like a ship back in the day. And what you are smelling may actually be wood pitch. Update: I'm not saying that the smell was a bad thing, it just added to the atmosphere and experience. I kind of liked it, and it made me more interested in the history of the building.

Tonight I went to the cancer survivor dinner at the publick house. Probably almost 200 people there. We had an excellent dinner, Cara came as my guest. We had an excellent time! Food was awesome we both had the chicken. Very delicious. Apple tart and ice cream for desert. Thank you Cara for making it a great experience!

Great venue for professional seminars and break out sessions. The comfort food was amazing. Italian buffet for the evening reception. I had the salmon for lunch during the meeting. I recommend ordering coffee service all day rather than once or twice. Only slightly more and sodas are also included. The staff are remarkable. Helpful and accommodating for any problems that arise.

Overall the Publick House is a very nice place to stay. We always stop here traveling from the DC area to Maine and back a few times a year. We need two beds and a dog friendly room so we stay in the country motor lodge rooms towards the back of the property. These old motel style rooms can seem a bit bleak especially in the winter and definitely need a spiffy up. But they are perfectly adequate, clean, and decently maintained. In warmer weather walk to dinner/drinks in the tavern and enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Charles, the bartender, was very personable. He has a great sense of humor and makes you feel right at home. The bake shop has great treats, too! I love the apple turnovers.

We never ate here before but was a good meeting place to catch up with a college friend. My wife ordered the portabello mushroom sandwich and I had the home made turkey ruben sandwich on marble rye without the cheese. They both were prepared just right as we ordered. My wife got the sweet potato fries as her side and I was able to substitute string beans for the fries. The service was great and what a nice historic place to meet. The grounds were also quite extensive. We will be back if we are in the area.

Cool place to visit. Staff was super supportive and nice when I was there for my brother's wedding on 5/20/18. Food was good everyone had a good time. You won't get a spectacular view of any kind. Every time I go here I see some kind of landscaping going on and lots of dirt. Other then that a nice place. It has a rustic feel and look to it all. They may claim to have had Washington visit, but only can prove a cousin or something. Large parking in rear. Also this place could use more signage to help guests get to the right place. Everyone was lost when they arrived.

The staff was extremely eager to make the event successful and did everything they could to accommodate last minute requests. From setup the evening all the way through to the completion of the event, we experienced top notch customer service. The venue itself is chocked with character and antique charm that welcomes you from the start. The event food was pretty typical of a normal corporate event, which is to say it was very acceptable. I will definitely hold future events at this location.

We have stayed several times and always enjoyed the simple, somewhat dated, decor, amenities and food. Breakfast, especially the buffet, is so good, fresh and reasonably priced we fill up and feel thankful for the classic colonial atmosphere of the old inn. The rooms are like a fusion of mid-century motel and inn living so the price is right, the accommodations clean and the service gracious.

We enjoyed the charming ambiance in the Main Tavern as we sat at a table near the fireplace. The menu offered many inspiring options. We had fish chowder, lobster Mac and cheese, roasted pears on arugula with prosciutto and chèvre, and the three citrus crab meat salad. Everything was delicious and artistically presented. It provided a delightful experience. We followed it with a shopping splurge at the Publick House Bake Shop — yum! I would give it ten stars if I could.

My Wife and I were recently married at the Publick House, and I can say without exaggeration that our experience there was, in a word, perfect. From setting the date to checking out of the Inn as a married man, the staff were all very kind, coordinated, gracious and knowledgeable, allowing my loved ones and I to enjoy the momentous occasion while they did all the heavy lifting. The decorations, food, and atmosphere were all incredible, and my Wife and I owe a special thank you to Felicia, who personally catered to us as we prepared for the ceremony and made sure we wanted for nothing throughout the entire celebration. I highly recommend the Publick House for any occasion, and you couldn't find a better place to start an eternal union between you and the one you love.

Welcome Wagon has enjoyed Publick House's hospitality many times. The historic ambience, the lovely and capable staff, meal and bakery were all super! Would recommend them for conferences, seminars and more. In addition, two times ago when we were there, Publick House brought in a staff member who acted like an historic docent, telling us the stories of the American Revolutionaries who were ready on a moment's notice to toss their "treasonous" documents into the fireplace, and pretend they were there to dance and make merry. Really made us feel the history of the place!

We love the bake shop there! It's tradition to go get a couple of goodies and eat there. The bakery staff is great and wicked friendly, (I won't patronize a place that doesn't have great customer service). The treats are yummy and freshly made. You can buy a beautiful, fresh single layer gourmet cake for less than the supermarket! No joke. It's a beautiful spot to sit when the weather is nice too.

We love coming to this restaurant before going into Old Sturbridge Village. Good comfort food — the lobster Mac and cheese was delicious! You only need to order the appetizer size because it’s really rich. There are a lot of options on the menu so I recommend sharing with your family.

Pretty good — waitress, C. T, was the best. Hostess would not allow my husband and I, very frequent diners here, to sit by the fire. Supposedly four tables were reserved, so we sat elsewhere. When we were done with our leisurely dinner, still nobody at those tables. The fire wasn't going all that well, but still — unfriendly hostess, as usual here. Waitress was charming.

Not the greatest experience We were welcomed pleasantly and shown to a relatively quiet table that we had requested. All fine so far. Drinks took a long time to order and to come, but okay as well as we four diners had a lot of catching up to do. The disaster was the meal itself. Altogether we had six starters and two main courses. The worst starters were the shrimp cocktail, which featured pathetically small shrimp that were not that fresh (perhaps that's why I had an allergic reaction later that day). The second two starters were crab cake (not hot) and broiled pear (not cooked and tough). My husband's fish and chips came cold. How could a professional kitchen allow this to happen? The last main course, a lobster pie, was rated okay by the client. The ambiance is charming, but we will not be back.

Such a pretty Inn with a lot of rustic charm. A perfect venue for a wedding. An old horse barn was renovated and the horse stalls are used for a Coctail reception lounge and bar. The main hall is spacious and elegant. The food service and food quality is superb. The grounds surrounding the property is beautifully landscaped with flowers, trees and sitting areas. I didn't see the guest rooms but I heard they're charming!

Quaint New England Inn/Restaurant/Bakery with ample parking in rear of restaurant. Stopped in for a quick lunch. The server was friendly and attentive and the food arrived quickly. I had the open faced turkey which was a very generous potion and very tasty. Will definitely return when I'm back up in that area.

This place is beautifully decorated. The dining room feels like its straight out if the 1800s. Food was excellent and the service was really good as well. It looks like a very, fancy and expensive place from the outside. We even had second thoughts but decided we would splurge. I was shocked to find the prices were very reasonable. If I'm ever in the area again this will definitely be one of the places we go to for dinner. Great experience.

I have been to the bakery/cafe many times. The atmosphere is great. There are generally wedding party people traveling about. The restaurant is too pricey for me. The bakery has good deserts, I recommend the frogger cookies. Its a very upscale place. People generally have weddings there. The hotel and restaurant are classy. I once went upstairs and there was a nice library/lobby area for guests.

We came to Publick House for a wedding and were extremely impressed. The wait staff was courteous and attentive. With two young children, we were away from our table a lot however, our waiter made sure we were offered everything from the soup and salad to dessert and coffee. He was also very thoughtful of the children's needs. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely. We are from out of state but, would look forward to the occasion to return to Publick House.

Had a delicious lunch in the Pub. From hostess to wait staff to food and ambiance the Public House never ever disappoints. For us it is like visiting an old friend… comfortable and truly enjoyable. Keep up the marvelous work!

Beautiful lot to host events. Event was held in tent and service was excellent. Lots of parking but lack of direction to back lot. Cottage is small and should be bigger because it can only hold 20ish people. Did not stay here overnight. Overall it was a good night.

Beautiful place, inside and out. Stayed in the Chamberlain House; most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. Customer service is excellent as well. Would love to visit again someday, this time not for work.

I attended a wedding here in late-May and everything was perfect. The outdoor venues are not just well maintained, but scenic, and the inn itself has a comfortable, rustic New England feel. Moreover, the staff are extremely attentive, with special care for dietary restrictions. Highly recommended for parties.

We had our wedding here in July and it was fantastic, Cathy and Diana were very kind, accommodating and understanding. They worked with us to make sure we were comfortable and got the wedding of our dreams. The food and cake were fantastic and our friends and family were all impressed by the food and the beautiful location. They also went above and beyond for us with our cake design and (after there was a misunderstanding with my parents and they are the top tier of our wedding cake! ) They even made us another tier styled after our cake. It was so beautiful and kind of them as we were quite upset. Thank you very much Publick House, we had a great day!

My husband and I had dinner in the pub on a quiet Thursday night. They have several dining rooms upstairs but the pub is inviting and cozy. The hostess sat us in upholstered chairs at a corner table. We were greeted by Sean, our waiter, and he brought over water immediately and asked if we wanted cocktails. He brought mine very quickly and then a warm basket of bread. The sticky buns are warm and soft. We ordered their chips for an appetizer. Very good hot and flavorful. I had the Yankee pot roast and my husband had the open faced turkey. Sandwich. Both delicious and satisfying. Make sure to save room for dessert or at least stop at the bakery counter and bring home Some thing decadent for later. It really is a great place for lunch and dinner.

We booked our rooms after seeing the web site. Upon arrival, all that changed. We were put to the "Country" section which is basically some poorly constructed pre-fabricated buildings with no fire suppression system, hollow and uneven floors (yes, even on the bottom floors), dirty filthy walls, no windows, beat up furnishings, no maid service for our second day. We got a 2 bed room as we had kids travelling with us and found they only stocked 2 towels in the room. The air conditioning unit is a small room a/c unit that is insufficient to heat or cool the room properly. You can hear the neighboring room crystal clear as the walls are thin as paper. I forgot to mention that the paint is coming off the walls and the shoddy upkeep of room fixtures and wall mounted appliances screams that they do not care about the "Country" section nearly as much as the house sections. The rooms smell like an old attic insulation nightmare. STAY AWAY! I feel had and ripped off, and rightly so. This was one of the worst locations to I personally have ever stayed at. The bait and switch was disgusting!

This was once one of my all-time favorite restaurants. You'd sit down, they'd bring out an assortment of breads and rolls, and tray full of different relishes and chutneys. They had the best clam chowder in the world. They served a prime rib that was sublime. Oh, and the pecan rolls. They were heavenly. Over the years their dining experience has declined. My folks have been several times over the intervening years and told me not even bother getting a meal there anymore. But I knew the Publick House had a separate bakery, so I stopped by to buy a bunch of their famous pecan rolls. What a tragic disappointment. They were terrible. I don't know what kind of mismanagement occurred that led them to ruin their signature item, but it happened, and now I don't think I will ever have any reason to return. It's just sad.

I love the Publick House! I've never stayed overnight but have eaten here three times. They take reservations, so if you're planning to attend for a major event (like Valentine's Day) give them a call. The seafood is awesome. Don't forget to pick up some sweets from the bakery — the cookies are delicious, a sweet explosion of flavor in your mouth.

The Publick House is a beautiful place that has a kind and vigilant wait staff. The building is interesting as it is old timey with it's maintained traditional timber structure. I was there for work, but I would definitely consider going back for leisure if I'm ever in the area.

I went to Publick House for my grandfather's surprise 60th birthday party. The service was fantastic. The food was delicious. The staff helped in any way they could for the party. Everyone had a good time. I definitely recommend this place to everyone looking for good food and great service!

Spotless rooms. They are several houses. Me staying in one of recent construction, more specifically in a suite. Two flat screen TVs, one in the room and one in the hallway. To put one sticks, always full and fairly saturated restaurant on weekends with the celebration of weddings.

Publick House Historic Inn is a great spot for a wedding! I attended my friends wedding here this past weekend and it was fantastic! The staff was attentive and kind. The amenities were clean and modern. Parking was abundant and the spot is easy to find. All in all I loved my experience at Publick House Historic Inn!

Attended a wedding event. It was a simple but beautiful outdoor ceremony, followed by the reception indoors. Comfortable setting, I had a great time. Staff, food, service and drinks were all excellent.

I was driving home from NYC early in the morning. I stopped at the Public House for an excellent fruit and cheese Danish and a cup of coffee. Friendly service and super clean rest room. No other bakery can match their Danish or Eclairs.

Food was great but wife is vegetarian and when her dish showed up there was sausage in it. (I took a bite it was delicious. ). Absolutely wonderful atmosphere. Innocent mistake by a new server. Would be 5 stars but I took one off for that.

Good atmosphere, easy parking, friendly wait staff. Strange preparation of tenderloin (diced and we'll done, but a good piece of meat to start with). Cinnamon buns served in lunch bread basket. No coffee offered with desert. The idiosyncrasies don't ruin anything, but might leave you scratching your head.

We went to a wedding reception at the Public house. The staff was polite and professional, and the food was first rate. Especially notable was the maple vinaigrette salad dressing. The setting goals was rustic, but very clean. We are not in Sturbridge very often, but we would definitely consider stopping by when we are in the area.

I probably won't be back. Maybe I expected more. First, the waitress looked like she didn't want to take care of us (my husband and I). We ordered and waited very long time (it wasn't busy yet). My food was so cold, and I was so disappointed, I felt really bad, I ate my food for two reasons: I don't like to complain and it was too expensive to just get up and leave. My husband food was over cooked. We just couldn't wait to get out. It was a awful experience.

I went to the Publick House for my friends Bridal Shower. I was impressed with the staff who were well mannered, attentive and out of the way. They did a great job. The venue was nice, parking was adequate.

The publick house was nice but the motel on top of the hill was old, outdated, and in mediocre shape. Holes and tears all over the carpets, the porch had cigarette holes in the cheap plastic carpet and it had cheap plastic chairs from Walmart that cost roughly 10 dollars on the porch. Satisfied with the public amenities but the rooms in the motor lodge are horrendous and I do not recommend them especially for the outrageous prices. Go stay at the Hampton Inn down the street for less with more updated amenities and cleaner facilities.

Attended a large family function at the Publick House, building/grounds were very nice and well kept. The staff did a great job setting up and running the event smoothly. Food service was a buffet that included pot roast, baked fish, veggies, mashed potatoes and apple pie, everything I had was about as good as you can hope for in that setting.
