We stayed the night of Sept 14th, on the beginning of a loosely planned visit of towns around the Ozarks. We had no reservations at any place on our projected route, but I had researched various hotels in assorted towns, & read the reviews. I had written down the possible locations where we may decide to stay, if/when we were in those areas. As luck would have it, we decided to stay in Clinton that night & they had a vacancy for us! The evening manager, Amy, was very sweet & handled everything professionally & efficiently. Although we ended up on the 2nd floor, it was not an issue, due to the design of the hotel on this location. You simply drive your car around back, which goes uphill & park level with the 2nd floor. (no hauling suitcases up stairs) We were immediately impressed by the cleanliness/neatness of the room, which was much better than we anticipated! The ONLY issue we had, was when we tried to use the remote for the TV. It would turn the TV on or off, but would not work the volume or change channels. I figured we could just 'tough it out" for the one night, changing channels & adjusting the volume, using the buttons on the side of the flat screen. Then just advise the front desk about it, when we checked out. While I was in the shower though, my wife called Amy to let her know about it. In less than 5 minutes, she was knocking on our door! She had brought fresh batteries AND a spare remote, just in case. Long story short, she had to use the new remote, which meant she had to program it to work. In no time at all, she had things working properly! My wife & I retired from the "old" phone company, that used to believe in providing quick service, so what Amy did that night, really truly impressed us. I believe most hotels nowadays, would simply take the report & tell you they have to wait until "maintenance" arrives the next day. For this reason, we think Amy went above & beyond to help us & it was appreciated. The free breakfast, although small (given the space), was actually very good! While not as elaborate as some hotels offer, it was much better than the run of the mill "continental" breakfast offered by many. We also met & talked with the lady (sorry, but don't recall her name now) that ran & maintained the breakfast room the next morning. When I asked her about the very good cinnamon rolls they provide, she told me that the night manager fixed them the best. As I was checking out, I got to meet him also, but again, I can't remember his name either, unfortunately. However, it was very apparent, that this fine group of people are close knit & consider each other family. I would LOVE to stay there again, if in the area! When you consider the location, cleanliness of the room, their willingness to help (rather than pass the buck), & the good breakfast, to boot, it's a great deal. Also, as a side note, I think it's worth pointing out that the negative reviews on here seem centered on the pool, which given the time of year, we weren't going to use anyway. We did notice that it is a small pool, but in all fairness, it is a small Best Western in a small town, which is also the ONLY reason for 4 stars, rather than 5. Thanks again, Best Western Hillside!
