The Garden District House Hotel

Great value. Free breakfast, clean and decent common areas. Some squeaky bunk beds but no other complaints.

Walkable location to pretty much everything, with super cheap Uber's if you're feeling lazy. The location feels very safe and is very clean. We met a lot of cool people at this Hostel and gained tons of good stories in just a few days. Close to food, breweries and bars. I couldn't recommend this place more for the price. I will certainly be back next time I'm in NOLA.

This was a great place to stay. It was right in the heart of downtown NO in the Garden district a short walk or ride away from the French Quarter as well. We walked everywhere while we were there, but you could also try taking the trolley which stops somewhere nearby. The staff was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived and the overall atmosphere during our stay was laid back. We were helped by Lana and Myra when arriving who got us situated and showed us around. We would stay here again especially at the great price we got.

I recently stayed her when a friend of mine bailed on our trip to San Fran. On a whim, I decided to come to NOLA. I booked literally less than 24 hrs when my vacation started and I got a spot! The stay here was beyond amazing! It was my first time staying in a hostel and this place exceeded my expectations! It’s a house converted so you get that homey and comfort vibe. The beds and room were clean and great. There’s even a patio in the middle of the house which is great to have breakfast and to read a book. The staff was helpful and great! Nadia especially! She was warming and welcoming! We talked about places to see, eat, bars, shopping, etc. By the end of my stay she wasn’t the staff to me any longer but a friend! I highly recommend this place. Trust me. You won’t regret it!

Great place for the price. Very clean and enough bathrooms so you are never waiting. Fast Wi-Fi and awesome outdoor area. Has an wicked vibe to it! Close to magazine street that has plenty of food options and a bike rental place just down the road.

When my friend said she booked a hostel for our trip, I was like… HELL no! But I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was a great experience! Ended up going out with our roommates we met there and having a blast. Met people from all over. The staff was awesome, Imogen was great and the guy from. Uruguay? He had a Spanish name but I forgot what it was. He helped me get my stuff out of a locker that I lost the key to. After that he gave me another lock to use but I didn't even feel the need to lock up my stuff after the first day, everyone in my living quarters was super respectful! I got great sleep as no one hung out in the rooms, only to sleep. I will try more hostels in the future, thanks to this place.

Nice hostel in the garden district. Stayed in a double bedroom which was nice, kitchen well equipped and about 30 minutes from the French Quarter. Friendly and helpful staff.

As "Hostels" go it's a cheep place to stay. The staff "Try" to be accommodating but don't have the ability to even buy a "Coffee" maker when theirs broke. Our room on the 2nd. Floor was so "Hot" at 4am we couldn't sleep for the last 2 nights regardless that we called the phone number after hours. I find it so very "Sad" that such a beautiful experience is "Soured" by such simple ignored "Solutions". Until these items are addressed that I've labeled on each of the submitted photographs in this review, I would spend your money somewhere else! That is not an easy thing to say however true. Nonetheless I hope it's helpful to those traveling along their journey. ~V.

Loved this place. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommending tours and close by eats. Short walk from walmart for the budget conscious traveler and between 20-30min walk from the french quarter. Rooms are comfortable in a quiet and safe area.

Fantastic little spot. Very comfy, and very affordable. Got to meet and chat with lots of very cool people who were also traveling, but also didn't feel cramped and still had our own private space. Staff was super nice and helpful (shout out to Pablo! ) The house is walking distance from the St. Charles Trolley Car, a 24-hour Walgreens, and a liquor store. The staff goes above and beyond to help visitors enjoy the area and keeps a board with lots of good recommendations for food and events in the area posted in the lobby. Would HIGHLY recommend this place for any young people, or people travling on a budget. Keep up the good work, guys. I've yet to find a better place to stay in New Orleans.

We loved our stay here. The location is great, short walk to the old mansions and graveyards as well as places to eat and drink. The room was large and clean with air conditioning for days. The staff is excellent and have lots of helpful tips for travelers tucked about. Our favorite part was a fantastic communal back yard with tables and benches, strung lights and even a place for darts and beer pong. After exploring the city, we invited local friends to hang out in the large back yard with us (which is totally allowed) where we had a great time sharing stories with fellow guests. The kitchen is open to make hot cereal and pancakes with hot coffee. I am will absolutely stay there again on my next trip.

I had this place booked for 2 nights when the governor called a state of emergency I felt it was best to stay out of New Orleans. I called and tried to change the date for my stay and was told that I lost my deposit. Did they expect me to continue as planned and drive through three states during a storm. When I do decide to make the trip I will not even consider this place.

Not a paid review *** My stay started off a little rough since I had booked through their other house in the French quarter that was the address I was given. They were very helpful getting me to the right place. Upon arrival I was informed that they did not accept credit card (bummer), but they did have an ATM in the house and even deducted the ATM fee from my total. I rented a private room for three nights and it cost me about $180 which is less than a single night would cost in New Orleans for most hotels. Very clean house and very friendly staff. Vanessa was awesome!

Garden district hostel is well situated in Nola. 35 minutes from the French Quarter in a quiet and safe area. People there are really kind. However there is a big problem: we stayed there for two nights! Each night at 4 am we woke up because of the dog barking. It can seem not important but I can assure you that a dog crying for 3 hours every morning is a big deal! The problem seems to come from the hostel owner, he owns the dog too, and don't want to do anything to resolve t…his problem. You'll get no discount because the owner is not living in the hostel. So please sir, if you read this, note that your dog will be better with you or at your place, and also that people coming to your hostel don't need to bare this animal! Hugo Emo.

After a long and harrowing experience at the airport, Pablo hooked me up with an inexpensive dorm room and went above and beyond to make sure the rest of my day went on without any more complications. I was able to shower, relax, and met some AMAZING women that ensured my unexpected stay was worthwhile! Thank you Pablo and everyone apart of the Garden House!

Location is perfect walking distance from local dive bars and interesting restaurants. It is about a 15 min uber or Lyft to the city where you can spend a whole day without needing anything else to do. Staff is very friendly and informative. Vega "DJ toilet" is the bomb.

Such a great environment, stayed here mid November 2015 for 3 nights. The house was clean and has an awesome back deck to hangout on; met people from all over the world out there. The staff was nothing short of amazing. They were quick to give advice about things to do, as well as what to avoid or even to keep you company in their downtime. In regards to the reviews that say you get incentives to post positive comments, that's total bull. This is the place to stay if you want to truly experience New Orleans & a hipster-esque kind of vibe.

Best hostel I have ever attended. The staff is just awesome. They are so helpful, they know the city and the places to go and you can drink with them. Loved this place.

The Garden District House was great, the patio is amazing, and everything is so clean and nice. The staff were so helpful with the area and in general. P. S. "J" is amazing and she makes the best pancakes.

Clean, comfortable, very relaxing feel. Excellent value in a great neighborhood. I stayed in another hostel a few blocks away and was driven away by an insect infestation. This place really kills it if u want a friendly, welcoming, and intimate place to stay while in Nola.

I had a really great stay, staff were awesome, the house has been done up recently and the place has a really nice vibe. The location is perfect, it's close to Magazine St with lots to do and easy to get a side cart into the French Quarters. Would recommend this place with ease.

I had a great time at this hostel. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the place was clean. Caleb, the guy running the place, was a great host. The other guests were fun, polite, and quiet at night. So I hate to complain. But. The ownership really needs to put some money into that place. The room I was in had no ventilation, so it kind of smelled at times. The deck was a nice amenity, but the handle to the door kept falling off. The first couple days I stayed there the hostel was totally full, which meant there were lines for the showers and bathrooms. Many parts of rooms and hallways seemed unfinished. I've stayed at lots of hostels, and I'm no prima dona, but I'm sure the place is making enough money that the owners could make it a little nicer. Maybe I'm just spoiled after staying at nicer hostels in North America, like the HI in Toronto and the Green Tortoise in Seattle. They set a high bar. That said, I had a great time at the AAE Bourbon House. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, and the room was cheap. I might stay there again, but I would probably look around for other places first.

This place is a DUMP. I stayed here in late May 2014 and found the place disgusting. The bathroom mirror had a HUGE crack on it, the paint was pealing off the walls in the bathrooms in the hallways, and the bathroom had a big hole in the cheap tile right in front of the bathroom shower. It was a big enough hole that you could step into it. It was not a clean place either, and I felt like the bathrooms and the bedroom had not been cleaned in months. The owners of this DUMP obviously do not CARE enough about their guests to repair this place and make it half way decent. I will NEVER, EVER stay in this disgusting dump again. The owners only want to TAKE YOUR MONEY, and obviously have NO sense of pride about making this hostel a nice place for their guests to stay. I strongly advise you NOT to stay here if you visit New Orleans.

Stayed here for a conference a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've stayed in many hostels and this is a good one. It was clean, felt safe and wasn't obnoxiously loud even on the weekends. There are some fantastic restaurants within walking distance and it's about 20 minutes (I walk fast) to get to the river. Also, the staff was friendly, they knew the area and were everything good hostel managers should be. The one caveat is that, according to the cab drivers who dropped me off at the hostel on several occasions, it's not in the best neighborhood and they did not advise walking alone after dark. Nothing remarkable happened while I was there but keep that in mind.

Great staff, relatively clean accommodations, located in the Garden District, my favorite part of New Orleans, and they have washers and driers, a back patio for socializing, etc. Close to a good stretch of Magazine Street (Juan's Flying Burrito, Magazine Fish Markets, etc. ). Also, they take EXTRA precautions against bed bugs. Good for you guys. A special shout out to some of the staff that made us feel really welcome (sorry I forgot your names) : -Polish lady — way to represent in New Orleans. -Guy from Arizona. -Guy who works summers in a hostel in Chicago. Wish we could have stayed there the whole time, but they were all booked up. We'll certainly want to stay there again if we come back.

Staying at AAE Bourbon House comes with a few caveats. You will find it hard to find — signage on the front of the hostel is barely visible even in Daylight. You like the smell of mould; the place was dank and dirty and had mould growing on all shower curtains. You like poor water pressure when showering. My experience of staying here for a couple of days was to say the least gross. We had mushrooms growing through the floor of our room and the musty dewy smell made you feel like spewing. The bathrooms were not well kept and the kitchen was grotty. The outdoor area was messy and had mosquitos and the inside common area was tiny so you had to fight for chairs to sit on and relax. Whilst this review is only my opinion I would not recommend staying here and I'm sure if others took the time wouldn't either. Accounts from other people that I've met that stayed here a couple of years ago have been extremely positive so it's sad that it has turned into a dive. I found it annoying and a little deceitful that the prices are in Euro's as well, the staffs excuse is that it's owned by an Irish family? Whatever, they just use that to manipulate prices online which by they way don't include taxes. Locations wise, it's not close to the french quarter — it's at least a 45 min walk. They do offer pick up and drop off services, when they feel like it. We stayed at India house and had a way better time and it was cleaner and easier to get around.
