Review of Fairfield 2*

Rooms are nice. I'm disgusted by their nickel and dime policy of a safe fee. I don't like surprises. When I checked in they gave me a form to intial. Part of it was the standard $150 fee if you smoke. Initialed. Another $150 cleaning fee if you smoke. No problem. Initialed. "I understand a safe fee will be added to my bill. " What? I hesitated initialing. In fact, I thought about going to a different hotel right then. Of course, the wife and kids are waiting behind me with all the luggage. "I have to pay this, even if I'm not using it? " "Yes, the woman replied. It's only a dollar. " In my head, I'm thinking, "You nickel and diming b@$+@rds. " I probably have $3 in change in my pocket. It's not the amount, it's the principle. If you're making everyone pay, just add it to your room rates. This is really bugging me. I glance back at my family, suck it up, and hesitantly initial. The only info I found on this was one travel website mentioned this was an optional fee. It sure didn't feel very optional. They pretty much made it mandatory. I'm checking with the KY Consumer Protection Bureau to confirm this is legal. The room rate also includes a breakfast. Normally, when you check into a hotel with this, they tell you the serving time and the location. They didn't mention this or much of anything. As I write this, I know this is really insignificant, but I'm looking for faults in my front desk check in experience. And this is just poor procedure. Once again, it's a nice location and comfortable rooms. I just don't like the way what should be an optional fee is mandatory. I guarantee that surprise $1 surcharge for a safe fee is going to cost them. Even if I can dissuade one person from staying here, I'll feel some vindication.
