Review of Motel 6-Yreka, CA 2*

I checked into Motel 6 Yreka at 6:33pm on Saturday August 11th. After getting into the room and setting down our bags, I walked out to our second floor balcony overlooking the pool only to realize that there was a man (who clearly lived there) sitting in a chair, wearing only shorts and smoking a cigarette, staring at my mom and I as we chatted. He had a crooked smile and "flirty" eyes and didn't care that we saw him gawking. We were uncomfortable. As we turned to go back in our room, we noticed two police officers rushing around the corner on the bottom floor, just adjacent to our room. One officer put his back against the wall next to the room window and the other officer knocked, stepped back and had his hand on his pistol. We went back into our room and closed the door quickly to avoid any shots fired, if there were any. We were extremely uncomfortable at this point and decided to look elsewhere for a room. I called the Comfort Inn across the street and explained our situation and begged for a room that was safe. The very nice woman told me she'd have to call back shortly and let me know. In the meantime, we picked up our bags. (mind you, we had not touched ANYTHING. Not towels, not soap or the beds. The room was exactly how we found it. ) It had only been about 35-40 minutes since check-in. We proceeded to the main office with our things. (my mother and I) We explained what was happening and how we didn't feel safe there. They offered to switch our rooms but at that point, we just wanted to get out of there. I asked for a refund and the declined because we had check-in over 30 minutes before. Literally, was JUST over 30 minutes. 35-40 minutes earlier. The clerk called her manager (Cynthia) and even the manager declined our request for a refund. I was extremely upset but left in search of a safe room for my Mother and I. The Comfort Inn came through for us and the rest of our evening was comfortable. I am extremely upset with my experience at Motel 6. I paid $67.19 for a room I didn't even stay in. I'm 34 years old and Yreka has been a half-way point for me between my family and my home since I was 11 years old. We've always stayed at this Motel 6. Sadly, we will NEVER go back there again. Or any Motel 6 for that matter.
