Nice restaurant, great food/reasonable prices, nice pool, beach, great rooms and friendly staff.

Hotel is designed in traditional style, wooden carved doors, furniture… excellent service, great food with good varied choice. The staff is friendly and kind, rooms clean. Tembo is in key location — close to everything you should need.

The worst restaurant in town!

— 50% of our food did not come at all! There are many other good places to eat in Zanzibar, so stay away from this one.

My girlfriend and me stayed in Tembo for 7 night in end of January and beginning of February. The service was really great. We got the keys very fast like in 3 minutes. The stuff is very kind and helpful and whatever you ask they doing it immediately and complete in minutes. The room was big like suite but it’s regular room and was very clean. The housekeeping coming every afternoon to spray against mosquitoes.

This is an extraordinary hotel. From the staff to the rooms. I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in Zanzibar. today is my last day here. It feels sad to leave. I can't wait to come back again to this hotel.

Nice rooms and right on the Indian Ocean and close to many interesting sites.

Lovely atmospheric old hotel, very clean and smart. Superb terraces and pool/beach area.

Its a great place to stay. The staff are friendly, pleasant and caring. Had a warm welcome by mr. Rahim amigo, a down to earth staff. Our room was spacious with an enormous bathroom overlooking the ocean. Highly recommended!

The service here is Fantastic! The guy sitting by the pool towels was hilarious loved the Chocolate cake and watching the sunset from here… Very close to the sea shore… Gets lively in the afternoon. Awesome location, great restaurants are a walking distance and easy to get around!

Tembo House Hotel, is one among the most famous hotel in Zanzibar, which is in Stone town facing the sea on beach, with pool, also has beautiful rooms, that many people love it and most time full, so is good hotel… Lovely breeze from see and nice view. Karibu.

This hotel is good lots of fresh air infront of sea and swimming pool too.

A great place to stay. Nice retro decorations. Very cute. Air conditioned rooms and very good breakfast buffet. Avoid the pot "local coffee" but pile up the French today. Nice crepes too.

Stayed for two days. Hotel was decent. Not a modern hotel. More like a hotel with ancient theme.

Only checked in, the hotel compared to the European quaint, like a stylish, old house of 1885 years, with its charm, in a tree, sculptures, a lot of trifles, a fountain, and in the 19th century, but at the same time in the rooms of the weaving of Provence and careless cleanliness.
The pool is small, strongly chlorination (eyes are as tingled after a whyhole).
The second floor above the pool bar is under sunbathing.
Later we go to test the food, while a solid four for the unpretentious guests.

The hotel itself is very modest… Central location. Just in the heart of downtown … but not a prepared person… just awful. Poor and dirt. No shops with the most basic. No. 4. As all necessary and sufficient the hotel itself is nice. Sea view. Breakfast was…

The hotel is great. Overall, well, good helpful staff. The rooms clean, well fed. But the beach itself is not. There are many different boats and ships. You need to go down the beach about 100 meters. Besides, nearby to the water leaves some kind of pipe. Most likely discard the drainage into the ocean or the storm drain.

The hotel is great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. But the beach as such is not here. We have to go further along the shore. The hotel is in a good location. Most likely dump the drainage into the ocean.

The staff is very friendly. Location is perfect in the heart of town and right on the water. Rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast buffet was delicious. I hope to return again someday!

Very nice place, the people at reception were very friendly and helped us with where to walk and what places to go.

The location is excellent because it is close to downtown but with a view to the beach for a reasonable price.

Tembo has an amazing beach front view. The hotel is located in Stone Town, and is within a walking distance to various entertainment spots and restaurants. I was here for lunch only, and my grilled King Prawns were so amazing that another customer could not resist from asking that I show them what my meal was on the restaurant menu! Service was very slow on this particular day however.

Very good hotel ready from the center of Stone Town and the beach, personal charming and friendly, small flat for the elderly or with reduced mobility there is no elevator.

I stayed there for 2 nights and really enjoyed a real service. " rare in zanzibar. Unfortunately, " in the evening one has the impression of being in a palace in india to a thousand and one nights I loved being ready for sea and able to enjoy the tranquility of the swimming pool. I recommend.

We had a 2BR apartment in the Mercury House, run by Tembo. The check in process was a little chaotic, but the staff is warm and helpful. The room was actually pretty large, two bathrooms with excellent showers. The beds we're, by far, the most comfortable we've come across on the whole island. There was a lot of noise and light coming from the street throughout the night so the rooms could do with some blackout curtains and thicker wibdows. The pool is lovely and cool and the views of the ocean from the very excellent breakfast can't be beat. The staff was very helpful in getting a laundry turned around overnight. We greatly enjoyed our stay.

Historic Hotel ideal for city tours would however need special upgrades in the rooms.

My single room was tiny but elegant and clean. A window broke in the storm but was very quickly repaired. Breakfast outdoors was nice.

I stayed in Tembo Hotel for period of five days. The manager and the staff were very helpful and made a special effort to make the stay very enjoyable. The hotel was very clean and the hotel was situation in a very nice location. The food was very good and Mr Imran in the restaraunt was very helpful. The Hotel Manager was very helpful too.

Best hotel location in stone town not one of. U may find everything u want here, history, beach, food, shopping. Dated decoration bearing so many history and story. My fabor.

The framework of this hotel is simply sublime with a little atmosphere Aghata Christie. The service is friendly. The food is good but not excellent.

Fine place. Rooms are clean and has all the becessary things. The beach in front of the hotel is a big plus. I would recommend going out for dinner.

Beautiful location. Great service. No elevator so if on the higher floors, lots of stairs to climb but worth it for the view. Highly recommend this place.

Very nice hotel next to the Stone Town Beach. Good selection of breakfast and bed was really comfortable and really high. Nice swimming pool in the hotel. Staff are friendly. If you like to have alcohol, I am told this hotel doesn't serve any alcohol due to their religious belief.

Delicious breakfast, nice clean rooms with big beds. Due to bed size the room seemed small. Swimming pool and nice restaurant view to the beach. The harbour is located close to the hotel with huge container ships which is why I only rate this hotel 4 stars.

I didn't stay at the hotel precisely. The hotel seem nice and the staff I met except for one were friendly and seem to be accountable. Had dinner here with and my colleagues. The waiter brought me a wrong drink and when requested for a replacement he never came back and everything was paid already upfront by one of the bosses. I didn't ask for him again as I didn't feel the need to but those staff need to know their job.

Lovely hotel… good sized rooms, nice swimming pool, breakfast variety, TV, air conditioning plus the hotel is on the beach. Very good staff. My mum and me really enjoyed our stay. Thank you Yacoub for really looking after us.

We stayed at the Deluxe Suite and it was an unforgettable experience. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom clean, and the large terrace offered unique views towards the ocean, peppered with dhows. The sunset from the terrace was the highlight of our stay. The interior design throughout the hotel is impeccable, with a variety of ornaments that follow the eclectic Zanzibar style. The pool was clean and the location is just a seven-minute walk from the city centre.

We stayed in the Freddy Mercury apartment in January. Lovely apartment with cool character. Two rooms, two bathrooms. Nice livingroom. I specially liked the livingroom interior design. Apartment also has a balcony. Cool pool are in the main building. The hotel makes you feel like you're in 1920' Hercule Poirot "let's wear the pearls and start investigating a murder". Very very cood memories although we were there for a very short time.

This was our first stop in Zanzibar and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were lucky to get one of the top floor rooms towards the ocean and the view was amazing. This was a super good location as we were able to walk everywhere and the beach right by the hotel is very nice and perfect for relaxing in the sun or swimming all day. Staff were very helpful in booking a few things and even delivering a deposit for one of the funky restaurants in town we made reservations for. Was fun to explore and get lost in Stonetown (which is not hard! ) from this location. The Hotel is very old but that was part of the charm.

Price — quality! In Zanzibar, prices in the hotels are very small and given the rate so generally inflated, but in Africa I recommend: 1 the staff is really friendly. 2 breakfasts certainly monotonous but they are pretty hearty. 3 on the beach sunbeds, mattresses, towels available, as the shadows from the palm trees! 4 all safe! Left bags for 3 days to check-out in Dar es Salaam, and in the room all the things. Everything remained intact! Of the minuses, the water is not particularly clean in the ocean holding on turtle island you will understand what it means to clean (James on the beach will help you and another to fry on a barbecue all You want) so noisy from 7am! The Internet is! More precisely, Wi Fi catches! Another tip you can save on everything! If you say the price of 20, 000 shillings start with 5 and end up 10-12 will definitely give.

Since we travelled with family, we decided to get one of the apartments… don't do this! The Tembo Hotel apartment blocks are not ocean front and are a bit run down. The hotel rooms are much better compared to the apartments. The breakfast was very weak too, as is the Wi-Fi. The staff is friendly and the price (for the hotel rooms! ) is reasonable.

Good clean rooms, nice view of the sunsent and zanzibari playing along the sea shore…

It is a decent hotel right on the waterfront, which is a lot for a city hotel. The only thing that lurks is is equivalent. First lived in room 206. There is dark even in the daytime, because the window is a blank wall and a half meters. The next day moved to 207. — Quite another matter! These 2 adjoining rooms have on the price at times differ!

Nice Swahili sea resort. Good and friendly service as I watch the sailing ships and boats.

Rooms and decor are simply beautiful and it was a true joy to see the restoration that has been done. Had top floor, three bed, room with a spacious balcony facing the courtyard as well as with sea view. Big bathroom with walk in Omani-inspired shower in blue tiles. The Omani beds were big enough for two and firm but comfortable. I definitely recommend using the mosquito nets! One small snag in that the water was off when we arrived but fixed within an hour. Some reception staff were a bit aloof at times but most were very friendly and service minded at all times. Breakfast buffet was a bit on the dry side and toast, butter and marmalade were served at the table upon request which was a bit odd.

Nice rooms, but almost no preasure in the shower. Nice poolarea. Did not try the food here due to no alcohol on the hotel. There is a resturaunt in the neighbourbuilding wich was ok.
