Junior and Jackson create a convivial environment that fosters connection and convenience. Having the option of eating there all three meals definitely increases the value. It is a bit out of town but there is a great community vibe and is easy to walk to the center of town or call a cab. Hot showers. Wi-Fi. Beer. They’ll put together bonfires in their beautiful backyard if the group requests which was an incredibly nice way to spend an evening.

Amazing host, amazing staff, amazing place, amazing food, great lay out, felt right at home, clean rooms and common areas (very important), amazing view on the river and beautiful sunsets from the roof. This really made my trip to Tanzania amazing! The fact that the place is an oasis of peace, fun, chill vibes and in the middle of an area where all the local people live was a beautiful experience. Really humbling. It’s a 15 minute walk to the city centre. Close enough and on your way to the city you see more than sitting in a taxi. If you prefer the ride. That’s an option too. Take Hillary, he will tell you all about the city, speaks very good English and is the best. Thank you Junior for the hospitality and great memories! If you’re ever in Amsterdam, give us a call!

This place is so lovely, everyone is really friendly and the way it's laid out is great for socialising. All the bedrooms are set around the bar/ courtyard/ eating / lounge space. The staff are friendly and very relaxed, and 3 meals a day included, we only had breakfast and dinner and both were great. One dinner was lentils which was great for my vegetarian friend and the another was a meat stew, rice and spinach. The showers are eally clean, and hot (though I preferred the cold showers). The big night out of the week is Thursday at Via Via and we had a few drinks and drinking games with Jackson and Junior before getting taxis. I would have given a 5 if it was a little closer to town, but I would still stay again as taxis are easy to get and cheap.

Super friendly, clean and heart-warming place. Junior helped us with everything we needed and on the last evening we've had the most delicious BBQ! Highly recommended if you want to chill in a relaxed atmosphere and/or want to find other travellers to meet up for a Safari.

Clean, safe, and fun environment for backpackers. I met people to do a safari with, and the meals are provided at the hostel which is awesome. Walking distance to town.

The location is very bad. The rooms are decent and the hosts are accommodating, but the location is very bad.

It has been such a pleasure staying at the White house! Great people, great hosting, great food and great rooms. Thank you Junior and Jackson for helping us out with everything while staying in Arusha I Will definetely recommend it to others! Asante sana.

Amazing guest house. Location is not ideal, but the quality of accommodation (including three meals) and the service was amazing. Good place to meet other travelers!

What do you hate in a place with excellent Wi-Fi and very protective of their guests? Absolutely nothing to hate. I love it so much. Junior and his family are a great team.

Rooms are spacious with comfy beds, facilities are clean with onsite afforable laundry and the food and hosts are amazing! Your family made our stay a delightful experience. Oh, the other wonderful piece of this place as the cool and adventurous human beings you'll meet around the dinner table. I was always looking forward to mealtime conversations! Nice atmosphere, excellent hosts, good food included, clean, fair prices. Neighborhood does not feel the safest.

Thank you for a wonderful stay to Cathrine and the whole Jackson family, especially Junior. Exceptionally low price if you consider what you get for it. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the same is the case for the bathrooms, which are also newly renovated. Don’t miss that breakfast, lunch and dinner is included in the price, and the food is always delicious. Thanks to the chefs! Our favourite was the mishkaki (skewers), lovely! A great place to stay before/after safari or just for some days in Arusha. Look forward to our next stay!

A great place filled with an amazing atmosphere and amazing people you won't find a place like this anywhere in Arusha.

Stayed here on my first night in Arusha and a night after taking a safari as well. This being my first time travelling so far from home somewhere so different I was slightly scared and quite homesick. This place was like a breath of fresh air, a home away from home. Everyone was super friendly and the home cooked meals were very tasty. They were also able to accommodate my vegan diet which was much appreciated. Wifi was slow but I wasn't expecting much. It is Africa after all! The beds were a good size and comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean! Would definitely stay here again should I visit the area in the future! Home away from home. Very welcoming and social place. Not your average backpacker joint. Well worth a stay!

A short and brief stay at The White House and immediately felt at home with such kind hospitality and good home cooked food. The hostel itself is very open and guest are invited to join the family over dinner and can chat to the other guest sharing stories or advice about their Safaris or other adventures in Tanzania. The rooms themselves are comfortable and there are electrical points that you can use to recharge your electrical devices. Overall had a very enjoyable time there.

We had a wonderful time staying here! The Jackson family took very good care of us. They helped us arrange a safari and cooked us delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner when desired, all included in the price!
Although the White House is not located in the center of Arusha, it is definitely a plus staying there: it is only a 20 minute walk from the center and the neighborhood is relaxed and hassle-free, which is not always the case in the center. We really enjoyed walking around here as the people were so nice.
I would definitely recommend a stay at the White House of Tanzania, it will make your stay in Arusha unforgettable!

Clean, decent and really honest friendly people who make you feel at home.

We had the best time staying at the White House of Tanzania in November! The rooms are comfy and clean and include a great breakfast each morning. The house is located in a different part of town than the rest of the hotels and hostels — but this is part of what makes it so special. You travel down a dirt road while surrounded by locals just going about their daily life. Every day we walked ourselves into town and were always greeted by dozens of adorable children in our neigh…borhood shouting hello. The family who runs the place is truly amazing. Junior is so helpful and on top of everything. I was actually in Arusha to do some volunteer work for my nonprofit and had a few special requests — Junior was always there to be of assistance and has stayed in contact with us ever since, helping us continue to give back in Arusha. Johnson is absolutely hilarious and will perform off the cuff raps songs for you on request and if he is feeling inspired. We took Johnson to try Mexican food for his first time while I was there and he ate his first taco — a special moment that I was proud to be a part of. We also spent several days doing volunteer work in the city and the boys were more than happy to join us in giving back. Mama, Sara and Julie were also like family to us while staying with them. I love traveling off the grid and getting the true experience of a place like Arusha. This is definitely the place to do it. The White House is a very special place.

Arusha can be intimidating, but not if you stay here. Junior, Johnson, and Mama take great care of you — making you feel like family. The hostel is within walking distance of town, but still in a neighborhood community that is really heartwarming. No matter what you want to do, they will help you figure it out! Also, their English is really impressive — a real relief if you have been travelling through Africa extensively! Also Mama is a great cook — ask for chipsi mayai if you are hung over :)

We had a wonderful stay at the White house. It was in a good location and just a short walk (15 minutes) to the town and markets. Delicious meals were incuded of authentic East african cuisine. Most of all I enjoyed my stay because Junior and Johnston are great host. They made us feel safe and welcome and went above and beyond to make our stay one to remember. Arusha wouldn't of been the same without the fun days and nights spent with the lovely bunch of people we met at The White House. Can't wait to come back again!
