My husband and I booked a trip to Barcelona and loved the look and feel of this boutique hotel from the photos online. Two days before our stay my father-in-law unexpectedly passed away leaving us unable to travel to Spain. I emailed CoolRooms explaining the situation, even offering to send them a death certificate as soon as we received one. However, they continually sent us the same email stating they could not do anything and that we needed to contact Expedia as they were not allowed to “modify Expedia’s rules and contracts”. Worried that there may be a language barrier, I got my sister-in-law to translate my emails into Spanish, but we continued to receive the same response. Expedia assured us the hotel had full authority to issue the refund but were choosing not to do so. We scheduled a call with the manager of the hotel in hopes we could figure something out. We were open to a partial refund, as well as rescheduling our stay for anytime in the future at CoolRooms’ convenience but the manager was unwilling to do either. At this point in time, Expedia has offered some compensation, as they felt bad for CoolRooms poor customer service, but we are still out a lot of money, as the stay was for 6 nights. I am beyond disappointed and angry at the sheer lack of human compassion CoolRoom’s staff has shown during such a difficult time.
