This is the second time I have had the pleasure of staying at the hotel California in Barcelona the staff is wonderful and the location is perfect.

Stayed here several years ago and loved the location and the service. Would stay here again.

Extremely noisy rooms since it’s in the city centre, no double windows so you can hear everything! Can’t sleep at all. Breakfast was just few pastries and coffee from instant machine, they have real coffee machine that is used by and for staff only but guests get the instant coffee from the instant machine. Lots of dust in the room. …
They had problems with hot water, there was no hot water for few hours. This is none smoking hotel but the hallway was smelling from cigarettes.

Receptionist guy was really lovely, everything in the room was on point. Didnt have breakfast, and I don't care how good it could have been when there are a million little bars and cafes within a minutes walk. Location is really fantastic!

Nice hotel, good breakfast, very friendly staff. Ceiling was coming down in the bathroom though. Beds are hard, but I don't mind. Right in the center, you can do everything by foot if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Loud during the night, but that makes sense in the center. In the morning it's also pretty loud with people walking around and cleaning staff.

Good for the price. Nothing fancy, but in a central location of the gothic quarter. Be careful at night in this area especially if you are female — don’t wander alone in these side streets and back alleyways — stay with the tourist crowd or be in a group.

The staff were amazing and helpful! The only thing is that I would warn people is that a cab can not get on the road and you are close to a rowdy bar! It was very nice though! I loved it!

Hotel in the alleys of the Barrio Gotico close to the Ramblas. We chose this hotel for location and very good value for money. The rooms overlook the alleys of the Gothic quarter… not one thing you see every day. Clean and spacious rooms. Only two negative things: the velmourning (I do not like) and the fact that there were no blinds, but only blackout drapes. Overall I consider myself satisfied. I would go back.

Noticeable mold on bathroom ceiling. Lounge pillow was not cleaned and had a crusty stain from the previous guest. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Room lighting was pretty nice. Hotel is quiet. Breakfast is simple (cereal, pastries, deli meats/cheese, coffee/tea, juice), but more than sufficient. The location is the selling point here. It is a TWO-star hotel being marked up due to its location. Overall it was fine with a last minute sale.

Hotel well located (in the middle of the Ramblas) without ostentatious, but whose services are of good quality (reception, room, housekeeping, breakfast) Nothing to complain otherwise that the street is a bit noisy at times but hey, it's the hypercentre (you have to know what you Wants. )

Quiet room in a central location. Comfortable beds, fast Wi-Fi, good buffet breakfast, staff friendly.

Stayed here for 4 nights, room was clean, comfy and smart with bathtub and powerful shower. Breakfast was simple and tasty — make sure to try one of the little doughnuts. Staff were relaxed, cool and friendly and they are at the desk 24/7. Considering the location you can expect it to be a little noisy at weekends, but the easy access to great bars and restaurants definitely makes up for that. Would recommend, great value for money.

Very comfortable and very well located hotel steps from the Rambla, Plaza Real, Palau de la Generalitat and the very full breakfast.

The only good thing I find is the location. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired, even the tomato for the toast is pot. There'S moisture in the walls and ceilings. The value for money is very bad.

Reasonable. The good: location, breakfast, overall look. The bad: noise from the street (it's small but apparently quite crowded) and the beds: instead of one we got two narrow beds on wheels simply put next to each other, super uncomfortable.

2nd time I’ve stayed here in 18 months great location to la rambles and ghotic areas both no more than a 5 mins walk away staff warm and friendly breakfast is basic there’s an Irish bar on the corner of the side street off ka rambles round corner from hotel, your a 10 mins walk either end of rambles to pick up the city tour buses where u can spend all day getting on and off to see the city.

2* hotel. Just off Las Ramblas it's quiet. Clean tidy, comfortable beds, nice continental breakfast. 24 hour front desk staff. Near to shops restaurants bus services. Had a good stay. Would recommend this place to stay as we where out all day so only needed a place to sleep.

Nice little hotel. GREAT staff, friendly and helpful. On a small side street (you can't take a cab very close, so you'll need bags you can wheel there yourself). The breakfast room downstairs is great. Convenient location, short walk to shopping and restaurants and other sights. We really enjoyed our stay there, and would definitely enjoy staying there again.

Clean, cheap, great location, friendly staff, decent housekeeping, only at breakfast is the coffee not particularly.

The hotel is perfectly refurbished but the furniture is old and, to my liking, ugly. The rooms are correct but with bad soundproofing so you hear all the noise from the street until late at night. Breakfast is poor and low quality. It is a hotel to spend the night but I would not recommend it to go on holiday to relax. Good situation.

The front desk men were very rude, they made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable starting with the check in, the breakfast is very plain. The location is fine and the hotel itself is good, but because of my bad experience with the staff I wouldn't recommend it.

Small rooms and limited breakfast, but excellent central location, 5 mins walk from the metro (station Lucio) allowing access to most of the main sights. Make sure you print out this map and some directions though. It is very easy to get lost in the narrow streets of the Gothic quarter. Friendly and helpful, if initially abrupt, desk clerk. Loud noise of running water when other guests use the toilet. Maybe rooms need more insulation.

Place: Very good location of the hotel, right in the center and 10 minutes cycling to the sea. Hygienic: Very unhygienic in the room of the hotel. In the bathroom were still hair and nails. Hospitality: A strange reception and dispatch by the clerk. He said nothing when we arrived, turned strange in his eyes when we asked questions. Pretty special …

Great room, very friendly staff, and a generous breakfast bar in the morning. Located very near La Rambla in the Gothic Quarter, and the Liceu metro stop. This comvenience does come with a price; Spain likes to party hard until early in the morning and you will have a front row seat. If you are bothered by noise and don't plan on going out at night, bring earplugs!

A good hotel, especially for visiting Barcelona. The staff was very helpful. It is located in a neighborhood full of life and very picturesque. Located at a strategic point near the metro and Ramblas.

It took us a bit to find it, otherwise, perfect. Reception staff very friendly and the breakfast perfect. Recommended.

We stayed here with a friend for 5 nights from the 4th of March. Due to the most explicit explanation of the staff guys of the hotel we got to it easily and quickly from the airport, avoiding eur35-40 for a taxi. (Keep in mind booking a Barcelona Card to get it at the Tourist Agency at the airport — it will solve all the transportation headache during your stay in Barcelona! ) You are just taking train from the airport to Passaige de Gracia and then a Green (no. 3) metro line till Liceu station (2 stops if I remember it right). You are to take the exit "Teatr Liceu", stroll 100m on Rambla and take a left turn to Ferran str. Then look for a right turn to Rauric str 14 and here you are! Very pleasant and helpful staff, spacios room and bath-room (we lived in room 408 on the 4th floor), very clean, good breakfast — I can hardly remeber staying in a 2 star hotel of such a GOOD level. 2 minutes walk from Rambla, close to the metro. Definitely come only here again.

Perfect location in the Centre of Barcelona. Very clean and very friendly staff. Spacious room and large bathroom. Highly recommended hotel.

While the Hotel California is located in a very quaint section of Barcelona and close to Las Ramblas, the rooms are very sparse. Yes, they do provide a nice "Continental Breakfast", that is about the only thing that they have going for them. The "view" from our room was a window of the building across the street, Carrer Rauric, which is about 8 feet wide. We stayed there in late May of 2008 and while walking back from dinner, we were nearly robbed by some locals. The following morning, we relocated to the Hotel Axel. While the Hotel Axel is slightly more expensive, the room was MUCH better, it is located in a safer neighborhood and is still within walking distance of everything. If you are on a budget, yes, stay at the Hotel California, you get what you pay for. But if you want to enjoy your stay in Barcelona and feel safe, I highly recommend the Hotel Axel.
