A comfortable environment though as a grp we were given a separate room fr breakfast and the buffet was limited compared to the main dining… treat all yo guests equally regardless of the number. U cant guard food in a buffet and limit people.

It's good for people who don't afford the high price of other hotels.

The staff of Balmoral friendly and helpfull because on my arrival the door locked itself nd managed to help me to get inside.

Hotel is not a 4 star, no Customer service, no staff Training, over promise but under deliver. Needed to get their house in order. Wouldn't recommend it. It's a falling star.

Goodish hotel. Nicely located by the beachfront. I think it is more suited for older people though, all the antiques and classic feel aren't for me.

Great place to stay. The Wi-Fi speed is slow. Something can be done to improve on that. The kitchen staff is friendly and always smiling. Reception staff is superb. Worthy to be mentioned are Mongezi and Precious according to name tags.

Service is very very good as for your breakfast you people just know how to start a persons day it's fabulous.

Charming atmosphere, great views of the quay and Table mountain. Public spaces are slightly dated but comfortable and inviting. Staff are friendly and well-mannered. There are charging points in the pub area.

Hotel from the "Gründerzeit. " Heavy carpeted floors everywhere and the charm of many years. Right on the seafront. In the evening, however, we no longer dared to get out of the hotel.

Hi what a filthy place that I cancelled by reservation upon arrival at the so called 4 star hotel after seeing the undesirable state. They refusing to refund me my R6000 deposit. I drove 7 hours to get to Durban and only spent half an hour and had to drive all the way back to Gauteng because the other 5 Star Hotels had no availability, what a ruined week as we intended to spoil my Wife as it was her Birthday on 27th December but Balmoral had to spoil in a different way. Since I have sent this mail, I have had no response although my mail was read. This is how pathetic and inefficient this Hotel is in addition to the filth. I only now realized that I am not the first to complaint of the state / condition of this hotel, there are many more other reviews, pity had I know prior to my booking, I would have never booked there. Its 3 months now and I still did not get a response. I have subsequently received a response that this filthy place declined to give my refund of deposit of R6000 which I said they can use towards cleaning their hotel.

Great staff, room are very clean and tidy. I had a fantastic weekend on the 20 until 22 of April, The breakfast was out of this world.

Comfortable old world charm. No electricity on arrival and no back up — only candles. Great view. Noisy at night from pedestrians and light traffic.

A bit run down 4 stars hotel — old carpets, uneven. Arrived at 10pm with my guests and very contradictory messages. Depending whom you talk to you can get drinks or not! Very welcoming!

Great stay. Environment clean, linen and towels clean and changed regular. Breakfast great and the omelette tops it all. Thumbs up for this place.

Friendly and helpful staff. Room was spacious and lovely with the aircon and a beautiful view. Food ordered from room service was delicious. Price is good for what you get.

Went to Balmoral for a week (8 days), took the family. Was truly amazing to sleep and wake up to that amazing ocean view and smell. The beach is literally 20 meters from the hotel lobby. 5 Star service. Fully carpeted, dining room area is amazing. FOOD was amazing.

Affordable prices, with the best hospitality service, you get to relax beside the pool and if you are a gymaholic, well, you get to have that too.

The was no hot water to bath in the morning. The food was terrible also.

Hotel in super, Windows a bit more soundproof would be better, service Prima, short walk to the beach.

The hotel was neat and the staff was very friendly not to mention their breakfast was outstanding iwl definitely bring my family next time, I really enjoyed my stay at the Balmoral hotel.

Old hotel that would have to be refurbished.
Room and bathroom acceptable, a little small and rustic. Rooms are a bit noisy. Restaurant simple but clean and good. Nice terrace and good location.

They gave us two single beds but later on they changed them. The area is great. Great attitude and hospitality of staff.

It's in front of the beach. The view is beautiful. The workers there are very friend. Yes there were problems here and there. But my stay there was good.

Great breakfast The rooms of the 1st are not very pleasant: sounds of the courtyard, smells of cooking from 5am… The hotel is facing the beach. Avoid walking alone if you are not from around the corner. Especially if you're a woman. Prefer group outings. There are free swimming pools in front of the beach and many games for children.

Super cool place, people complain that it needs a up grade but it states clearly on their website that much of the original furnishings exist. The place is over 100 years old, I loved it. Like I was taken back in time. Food, service etc… all good, I will be back.

The hotel looks very neat from the outside but does not keep inside what it promises from the outside. Very outdated and worn out furnishings, used carpets, mold in the bathroom and non-functioning faucets. In addition, strong grovel Lin ' fresh-looking towels.
The buffet in the evening and morning was OK.
All in all despite attractive location no good place to stay unfortunately.

Nice staff,,, my room smelled cigarette and there was nothing they could do except for air freshener, like really. I am glad I stayed for one night and nothing more. I don't like the place, needs more work.

Food (HP) was very good, hotel has come in years. Very large room, quite okay but no outlet for EU plug. There is no hair dryer in some rooms. The bathroom is very large, but technically a few decades back. Towels were very thin and spotty. We had better 3 * hotels on our tour. From the beach only separated by a road, but you should not go out in the evening!

Clean, friendly service, area around the hotel is a little bad but once your in your safe.

The hospitality of the staff was great. I had a problem with my room and but it was resolved within few minutes. Happy I will book again. I wish they can just add bath cleaning accessories to clean the tub.

When I arrived on Sunday I was greeted with Very friendly staff and my luggage was taken to my room. Breakfast was very nice with a variety to choose from. Rooms are kept neat and tidy every day. Wi-fi available in the rooms and in the dining area, and the aircon working well The only three unpleasant experience I have is 1. There was only 2 dstv chanels with no movies. I had to ask te front deak and they only gave us the action movie chanel. No variety to choose from… 2. There is very little water pressure. 3. The pipes under The basin in my room is leaking so every time the basin is used the floor is wet. Other than that I have no complains and is having a pleasant and peaceful stay. I will only be booking out on friday.

It's rated 4 star. The hotels restaurant was excellent. Just a pity that we were not warned that it was not safe walking around. They stole my husbands gold chain from his neck yesterday while we entered the shopping mall just a few blocks away. We were then only told that it was not safe to walk around. Pity that our holiday had to end up like that. We will not recommend people to visit that side of Durban.

Quite expensive. No globes in the bedside lamps. But service very good.

It's not what advertisement said. The safe didn't work. The staff is friendly however between the booking I made and the services I received is totally off what I expected.

This place has down graded their standards. The management is bad, no liquor and food takes longer. The customer services is very poor they don't care. You complain first before better service all the time. Great and friendly staff no problem there.

This is the greatest place, the hospitality alone is very great, I have been in this place In the year 2010 and I was treated like a king.

We had the opportunity to spend 3 days at this hotel. The staff certainly makes one feel like royality. Morning breakfast 10 stars! Special thanks the staff at breakfast. Goodpresent aka GP for the wonderful coffee and Aasiya for for (SQ) freshcream with scones. Riad and the lady at reception thank you for making sure the taxi taking us into central Durban. Great hotel that is. A while year is to be spent there. It's more like a home than a hotel that.

Ok ish lift doesnt work properly. No covered secure parking. Advertises rooms that arent what they supposed to have been.
