The staff were very friendly and welcoming they called us before we arrived to check on us if we neef assistance regarding directions our room wasroom service was perfect and best breakfast was delicious thanks I to all holiday inn express umhlanga staff.

Some of the staff members are not welcoming but majority of them are very good. U experience a problem they attend to it as soon as possible. I only saw one whom I think she thinks she owns the place. You arrive at the desk and she doesn’t look happy or even greet you in turn. But otherwise the place is very good for any person to stay,

Very peaceful and quiet place, neat too. Friendly staff well organised place, not forgetting the food… delicious breakfast.

Surrounding area is still under construction (as at July 2018). Hotel offers basic accommodation, meals and amenities. Good for a quick business trip, not recommended for families with young children (because of the limited amenities and activities available at the hotel). Overall, hotel is clean and neat and staff are friendly and helpful.

Been using the hotel for 4 years during Comrades marathon weekend. Clean and quiet, boardroom ok. Easy walking distance to mall and is generally safe. 5mins drive to Umhlanga lighthouse beach. +-15 minutes drive to Comrades expo and Up run start or Down run Finish. Breakfast on race day flexible and enough variety for most runners.

The hotel is far from everything except Gateway and the airport, the rooms are average with mediocre beds and soft pillows. The additional blankets are hard. The service can be slow but depending on who you get, they can be really good and helpful. What was nice is that all the cleaning ladies are super helpful and very friendly.

This place is good for conferences and meetings. The breakfast was great in the morning. Although it was a buffet breakfast, it had still lacked some important items. They also service you event on time with fresh items.

Simple, spacious and clean room. The bathroom is spacious. I've been to better hotels in the same price range. Nothing that wowed me but also nothing that let me down. The room has everything you would need.

Very welcoming atmosphere at reception. The hotel is immaculately kept and everything works as it should. Its close to the Gateway centre and a short distance (I walked) from a variety of restaurants and the beach. I have no hesitation in recommending this establishment.

The service was excellent but the bed was truly awful. On the other hand, my parents stayed in another room and thought their bed was fine. Breakfast was very good.

Rooms not bad though sea view soon to be diminished by construction. Breakfast leaves lots to be desired. No egg choices and no egg holders for the hot hard boiled eggs. Friendly staff at least, ihg rewards info not picked up though my name and id provided. Entrance not well marked and stairway to entrance practically hidden from parking lot.

Holiday Inn standard quality. No surprises. Good but not exciting. Just ok. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast is good. The staff is attentive and are always trying to help. They have a taxi service that takes you to the beach for 50 rand.

It's a good hotel. Nothing too fancy but good service and clean serviceable rooms. Standard breakfast. They could look at standard vegan items on their menue but were happy to accommodate with some beans for breakfast and soy milk for cereal. Location is close to Gateway shopping centre and a number of other shops as well as being only a few minutes from the beach.

Friendly staff. Hotel Rooms need a refresh — old and worn out. Hotel hallways need a refurbishment. Good place to stay if you’re not going to hang out at the hotel at all. The bar needs serious work!

I hated my experience in this hotel. The markings for the actual entrance is not there… so we had to park far and had no guidance as to where to enter. Took us more than 10 min to find it. Meanwhile the guard is sleeping. And the hotel floor and carpets and couches need a good scrub. Truly. We were given a room someone else was using and then had to çhange… and our bags were searched we we were gone. I would never ever go back nor recommend anyone to go there. Never.

Hotel was great! Friendly staff, great breakfast. The restaurant Butcher Block however was a disaster. I would not recommend it again. Service and food was a big dissapointment.

The rooms are basically nice and clean. But the noise is a temple. Wi-Fi only 100 MB vyleljajut, but Cook very tasty! )

Reception is located on the second floor which is very inconvenient. Taxis to the beach are extremely expensive. Dangerous to walk to the shopping centre for tourists. Breakfast is rather boring. Rooms are clean and have enough space. Wouldn't spend a holiday there. Too far from everything to walk to the Beach. Not for Families. It a business trip hotel.

Convenient for business travellers. At the side there is a spectacular steak house…

I don't think I've ever been to a place where every single staff member was so friendly and helpful! The service was amazing. The room was comfortable, I just feel that they can improve on how they clean the rooms each day. Other than that, great service!

Breakfast needs so much improvement. Over cooked sausages and scrambled eggs even you don't like it. Hotel is neat and staff friendly and welcoming and attending to all your needs immediately… Had a fabulous time.

The staff is so friendly and helpful excellent customer service. The room we stayed in reeked of smoke that was not so great but after we reported it, it was sorted out. I blame the guests though there are no smoking signs but clearly ignored. We loved our stay here and totally recommend it. Our overall experience was awesome!

It 's a nice place to stay and enjoy yourself with either family or friends. Staff are so accommodating and helpful. I have enjoyed myself through my journey and experienced difference things. It ' s being a pleasure to be there during my Business journey.

Got greated at the airport with the umhlange cabs and tours driver, Patrick who was so kind too us. Got greated very warmly in reception where we were helped further taking our luggage to our stunning room, and git assisted in how the room worked. Lovely view. Went down to the pool area to sit and relax and wait for the restaurant too open where we were once again greated with a very warm welcome. Starters were served with amazing presentations. Along with the main course the food was absolutely delicious. On arrival of breakfast greated with a wonderful vibe and good conversation. As for the breakfast arrangements, absolutely devine. Escorted back to the airport with Patrick as reception called him as per our agreement. Would return any day. Amazing.

No frills but good value for money. Great view from the sea facing rooms.

Not a good experience. Woken repeatedly after 11pm by a soccer team yelling right outside our room. We eventually had to move to another room on another floor at midnight. The manager did apologise the next morning and gave us a discount. However we felt that we should not have been charged at all. Why should you pay good money to stay at a hotel when you get a better night's sleep staying at home? And we were really looking forward to a restful time together. We would not recommend this hotel.

We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay. Good location for access to Gateway Shopping Mall as well as the Umhlanga beach area. Good sea views. Compliments to Nash, the breakfast manager who paid special attention to our needs. Front desk staff could be friendlier (did not feel welcome when we checked in). Elevator carpets need more regular cleaning during busy times. Would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

A decent place with new facilities.

Positives about this hotel is that there are some great views of the sea from the breakfast / lounge area. This area of the hotel is contemporary designed. Rooms are rather standard, nothing amazing but if I compared it to the Holiday inn expresses in USA it is much better. Price wise I find this hotel much more expensive than the HIX in USA. Reception/ front desk service is great.

Rooms are clean and decently kitted especially for the price point. Close to most amenities. We came for holiday so was just a short drive to umhlanga's beach. And gateway is walking distance. Staff were friendly and helpful. Having a really good stay.

A common stay over on business trips, only had good and friendly service. Nice and close to Gateway for dinner and beautiful sea view.

Hotel for the business traveller on a short stop-over who does not require more than a bed and food. Ideally situated. Great views from the right rooms.

As I arrived I got a very average hello and checked in. When I made my booking I specifically asked for a non smoking room. We went to the room to find it reeking of cigarettes and so basic I couldn't believe what we were paying for. I immediately requested a non smoking room. Instead of being humble and trying to make us feel better I was told "well that is a non smoking floor" which it clearly wasn't because it stank! I got my new room and went up only to have the lights not working now so maintenance came up and fixed the problem with the card. Then breakfast on the first day left something to be desired. Mushy eggs, weird tasting sausage and very average overall. The second day was alot better in terms of breakfast. Upon leaving I gave in my key, no one asked me did I enjoy my stay and the staff just seemed very "uninterested". I regret my stay there and would have rather stayed at Blue waters hotel where my friend checked in and everyone was friendly and smiling and her room had a fridge, it was spacious and really worth the money. Our room didn't even have a fridge! It had a broken dustbin, we had no hot water on the first day as a big group stayed there and used all the water and we had a wedding to attend that we couldn't shower for. It was a nightmare! Never again!

Holiday Inn Express Umhlanga is a place I call home. Reception staff are polite and friendly who go out of their way to assist.
Just one positive critic, hot breakfast menu is very limited and boring. A suggestion to add a few more items like grilled mushrooms, baby potatoes, fish bites. Well that's my suggestion. Other than that, all is good.

The place is great and in a reasonably convenient location if you want to be out of the city. The staff is awesome and professional. The breakfast has sufficient range and butchers restaurant is a great add on. The setback is that the TV channels are limited and the undercover parking is charged as an extra. However, I would love to stay here again.

Very good response from the staff when requesting something from the room, the front desk personnel and Managers need some training on people skills and how and how to be friendly to guests. I was very unhappy about the pool and times you set there, only saw that when I was there. Very unhappy about the treatment from the Manager on Duty on 09/0/2017 regarding access to the pool. Certain people get extensions on the use of the pool and besides we are not children, consider the access and restrictions to the pool. Your breakfast has no fried eggs, something to consider. Train your staff on how to make a bed as well. Besides these fall outs We really enjoyed our stay.

The hotel itself is clean, well maintained and conveniently situated. Modern amenities and decent breakfast. The only bizarre thing is that in today's modern era, the hotel doesn't offer free Wi-Fi!

Got a smoking room and was told no non-smoking rooms were available. But this may have been corporate bookers mistake and failure to tell me this. Room had not been properly cleaned and there were crumbs on carpet and chairs. Dangerous outside steps to reception from parking. But great sea view.

4 days ago, I really enjoyed my stay there. The staff was so friendly and the food was awesome. I would love to go back again soooooon.

Asked for a sea facing room 6 months ago but they could not organize it will go to the garden court Umhlanga next time.

Terrible hotel stay, arrived on Saturday morning 09:00am could check in because check in time is 11am, the whole team that was on duty were very unfriendly, no smile, it was as if they had glue on their shoes, they were stuck on their PC's, no information was shared such as parking etc, booked at a smoking room and I am a none smoker, requested a room change the following morning, awful breakfast, I had to constantly check if they had found another room, eventually I went and stood at reception and that is when I received the new room, I did not eat breakfast on Sunday. Customer service does not exits in that hotel, I wasted my money.
