Super cozy, just nice people and clean. Would love to come back!

Nice place, near to Matamata, i-Site and especially Hobbitton, with only 15 mins drive away. Walking distance to KFC and McDonald's too!

Nice rooms, but small. No table in it, no possibillity to lay anythingbdown. Good kitchen. Nice persons. Good personal.

Nice staff and good amenities. It's clean and generally well kept. The kitchen is great. The rooms are a bit cold in the winter but not too bad overall. Wifi is a bit slow at times of heavy use but otherwise reliable. It was the cheapest place I could find to stay in matamata for two people. It's so expensive compared to hostels I'm used to, so I can't say it was a great value but it was at least a nice place at stay and didn't have any problems with it.

Great backpackers with a homely feel. Cabins were warm with comfortable beds. Pool table, table tennis and many social areas were available.

Lauren, thank you so much for helping us obtaining tickets for the hobbits site it made our trip something we will never forget. we arrived saturday night after 20.00 they had a room which was clean and warm great showers and clean toilets the place is a walking distance from the city centre. Great place to stay. It was very clean and inviting. We had our 5 year old with us and the staff was very accommodating (when he had childish accidents). I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for the hospitality!

This place was amazing! All of the employees were super welcoming, and the atmosphere was very chill. Nice sized and clean kitchen, plus plenty of restrooms for everyone. The room was clean and we loved the set up of everything, definitely one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in.

Good facilities; kitchen showers etc. Great Wi-Fi and ping pong table. Quite a social hostel and the room was nice. It was a little small and got hot during the night, didn't feel all that secure as the only window to open was either closed or open large enough for someone to fit though. It didn't however bother me just a thought for those leaving valuables in the room. Comfy beds.

Nice place and definitely recommended. Made the booking after 6pm and arrived 10:30pm, keys were ready at the reception, checked in with no problem. Cabin room is small but cozy with clean beds and sheets. Location is perfect and near everything in Matamata, Matamata i-Site is just walking distance away. Talked to Lauren the host on the second morning, lovely lady and really helpful with travelling suggestions.

I have now stayed here twice in the space of a few months for work related ventures and each time it has been an absolute pleasure to stay here. The host is the best I have accompanied in the 9 months of travel in New Zealand. Very accommodating and friendly. Lauren is more than what a guest could hope for! Clean, perfectly situated and lots of help with tourist information.

The only positive thing: the location of everything else is an imposition.
Yes it is clean, but lies vll. Also because it is new. It is nicely designed no question and for the price is designed with really much attention to detail, EA here is two classes: the 1-2 nights stay and the long-term faction that behaves like the axe in the forest and causes a hell of noise. It is not possible to ventilate the narrow cabins, so that EA Bulls are hot and there is no fresh air supply. The long-term faction behaves as if it were their property. Entering the common areas is ignored or acknowledged with a nasty look. If you want to be stuck weird, this will be registered but you have to ask Trorzdem. They scream all the time, play loud music and they don't care.
Let's be honest, most of the people who come to Matamata are gone after a maximum of 2 days, travel on, need to get out of the feathers early. The hostel is unfortunately only for fire mad long-term backpackers. When I re-open a hostel, it should at least be adapted to the needs of the majority.
I've been to countless hostels around the world but I've never experienced anything like this before or have had any reason to complain. What is going on here, however, is not at all. Many BA backpackers go to bed in the same time before 22:00h.

Good hostel, but you have to go outside to get to the bathrooms. Clean and nice. Fast Wifi.

Inexpensive accommodation, Wi-Fi, billiards and table tennis for free, nice people and clean it too! Top.

I've lived here for months while on my working holiday… honestly this place is so great I haven't even thought about looking for other accommodations. Absolutely delightful.

I've been in New Zealand for almost a year now, and I've stayed in a lot of hostels! I can easily say that this was one of the best hostels I've stayed at since I've been here. The owner is brilliant and obviously cares a lot about making the hostel the best it can be, both in terms of habitability and customer experience. The Wi-Fi is fast and free, there are two cozy lounge areas, one of which has a pool table, the beds are well built so you don't feel your bunk mate moving around (if you're in a shared room) and the people are great! Thoroughly recommend if you're travelling through the area.

Comfortable, clean and very friendly. The whole atmosphere is inviting and full of natural lighting. The living room has a cozy fireplace, the kitchen is clean with gas as well as electric stove stops. The rooms feel new and very nice. Loved my stay.

Lauren the owner is so pleasant! I love the little cabin type rooms to stay in and everything is tidy clean and relaxing. I was very comfortable here.

Arrived after theHobbiton banquet at2130 and was allowed to park overnight. With the blinds down it was dark enough and while there was road noise — well we were next to a road! The hostel facilities were lovely. Shower and toilets clean and plentiful. Kitchen was well equiped and fire was on I the sitting room. Great place to stay.

Awesome atmosphere and look of the hostel itself (also very clean), friendly hosts (who drove us to the wairere falls as we asked them what you can do around), cool people — and free Wi-Fi ;-) I definitely recommend staying in the hostel, it was a pleasure to be there :-) )

5-10 min walk from the tourism center. Attendant is cheerful and accommodating. They have cabin-like dorm for girls. Very clean and no smell. Can hang-out and cook at the kitchen. Has movie room!

Great place to stay small rooms, clean and everything to hand. Very friendly and helpful staff.

It was good, but air condition was not good. It was very hot in bungalov. But the kitchen and bathroom were nice.

We had a brilliant time here! The staff are more than helpful and accommodating, so genuinely friendly and willing to give info or tips. The facilities and location were perfect and all in all this is a great place to stay! Definitely worth a stop to see what Matamata has to offer.

It is exactly what it needs to be and more. Clean rooms and facilities with a great social layout. Spent Christmas here and I couldn't of thought a better way to spend my holiday abroad then at this place. Awesome accommodating hosts, that went the extra mile to show you a good time. Lots of fun playing basketball, didn't want to leave.

We had a great stay & I would totally recommend this place. The hosts are really lovely people & happy to help with anything. The place is brand new & has everything you need including in the kitchen!
Price was good for a family at $28NZ per head & we had room with 4 beds (2 sets of bunks)
Only a short walk to subway, countdown supermarket, McDonalds & KFC.

I cannot recommend this hostel enough! Fantastic vibe, a five minute walk to the Matamata i-Site, amazing facilities, super clean and everyone is absolutely lovely! I had such a great time, that I even stayed an extra night. If you're in the Matamata area to visit Hobbiton etc, this is definitely the place to stay if you're in the market for affordable accommodation. The owners have some amazing tips for some great activities you can do around the area and went above and beyond to ensure I had a great stay! Thanks to the team for creating such an awesome place to crash. I'll be back… one day ;)

One of the best hostels I have stayed in! Clean and fresh with a "homey" feeling, a well equipped kitchen, comfy beds and hot showers. Very friendly owners, we felt so welcomed :) All the best to you and good luck with your new place.

Amazing place right in matamata! Damian was super friendly and was willing to let us shower even though we didn't even sleep here! We were just passing through and he was more than accommodating. Highly recommend this backpackers!
