Zaanse Hostel Hostel

One of the worst hostels I've ever been. Check room number 8, especially bathroom, fridge, technical room, bed clothes… For 33€? Never more.

Compared to other hostels it was cheap and you get what you pay for. I would advise bringing you own sheets as they do not wash the sheets between guests. We watched as they pull the sheets square and fold the blanket and that's all. The rooms are hot with the only ventilation being a window propped open by a beer case. There is one bathroom shared between about 20-30 people on a floor. Finally I would keep any valuables on you as we frequently came back at night to an unlocked door. Would not recommend.

The atmosphere is pleasant enough but reception is always locked & empty & the room itself is kept so hot & humid that you are drenched with sweat before you have finished getting dressed.

It was just a huge fraud! We were a group of 6 friends and we obviously booked 6 beds in one bedroom for 3 nights. The day before reaching the hostel, we informed employees we will arrive and check-in late in the night. When we arrived around 2am, the guy told us that we were separated in 2 different 6 bedrooms, 3 beds in each. Come on! A 6-people group is arriving and at any moment you think about making them sleep all together in the same bedroom whereas 2 groups of 3 people are occupying 2 rooms. At what time do you realize you could gather these groups in one room and let us in the other one? Super angry, we refused not to sleep all together. Since the hostel was full and due to the time, there was no other solution… so we agreed to sleep separately during the first night but required to be all together afterwards. This is not the end. When reaching the bedrooms, we realized there were only 4 available beds (3 in one bedroom, 1 in the other one) for 6 people… Trying to find a proper solution, the employee opened all bedrooms, waking everybody up (it was at least 3am). Having any other choice than sleeping here due to the hostel location and the time, we "slept" separately around 4-5am AND shared 2 beds for 4 people. Basically, the 4 of us who shared a bed did not sleep at all… The next morning we required our bedroom, we finally got it but sheets were not even changed whereas people had just slept in during the night.

Nice and cheap ; it is. I didn't find the toilet comfortable enough but the douches were fine and beds were comfy. Good location of you don't want to spend too much on hostels. Staff is chill. Food is really accessible from there at every hour.

If you're looking for both extraordinary value and comfort, Zaanse Hostel is the place is for you. As one who has stayed often in hostels, I can tell you from experience, this place far exceeded my expectations. The mattresses are thick and comfortable, and each room has its own shower and sink, a refrigerator, and small cooking area. There is one water closet for every two rooms. The office/reception area is open 24/7, and those working at the front desk take your concerns seriously and are trained to assist you in making your stay as comfortable as possible. If you are interested in seeing any of the many attractions Zaandam has to offer, the concierge is familiar with the all of them, in and around the village, and will help you to understand directions to your desired visit. I was particularly pleased with Bilal, an incredible concierge who couldn't have been more helpful. He truly understands what it is to work in the hospitality industry. If you are staying in a hostel for the first time, it is important to remember Zaanse it is not — nor does it pretend to be — a five-star hotel. In my opinion, however, it is as close a you will get to five-star for the price. Depending on several factors (weekday or weekend, high season or low season, number of beds per room, among others), your stay could be as little as 15 euros or as much as 70 euros per night. A single — or two-bed room may cost you as much as 90 euros per night. My entire cost for an amazing 5-day stay?

WORST HOSTEL EVER! Horrible! We could not enter our bedroom at night, (there was a key on the inside of the lock) somebody from the staff slept in our room with our bags still inside! And we had to sleep on the cold floor because every hotel around was fully booked.

we arrived in the afternoon, nobody was to be found at the reception. (Despite open 24/7).
Eventually we got to check in but we could not pay “because the payment terminal was broken ”.
We were told we could pay later at night…
When we arrived at night OUR ROOM WAS UNABLE TO OPEN! (probably a key on inside of the lock! ) with our bags being inside the room, and nobody at the reception after 1 hour of banging on the door, ringing, calling… we suspect the guy from the reception was sleeping in our room! and every other hotel was full because of easter weekend. We had to sleep on the cold floor without a blanket or anything. We barely slept and our weekend was ruined. We can’t contact them anymore for further compensation. There’s even an item missing from our bags which we suspect they stole! The next day our room just opened again without a problem. When we called the owner (of course not there at the moment) he said “we thought you would not come anymore” — despite our bags being in the room! Horrible, unprofessional and dumb gangsters. Lowest of the lowest people. This is not over yet and we willl engage law enforcement if they are not willing to compensate.

Nice hostel staff gave a warm welcome and good recommendations for Zaandam and for Amsterdam. Only stayed one night but enjoyed the Zaanse Hostel. I made use of the kitchen in the room, it's a small unit with 2 hobs and a sink but managed to cook for myself. The doors are really loud so you can hear people coming in and out of other rooms throughout the night, but it is comfortable for a short stay!

It’s average. It is 1/2 hour outside AMS Centraal by train. Keep that in mind. Well, I always prefer to book directly with any hostel and when I tried to book a space, for one reason or another it was impossible to reach them by phone, both before and during my three night stay.

Enjoyed my stay. Staff very nice and friendly.

This hostel is run by a group of men who are not in the business due to passion for hospitality, but purely for profit. Since manager Yassin Sahsah is his own boss, he reflects his carelessness towards customer service upon customers, making his best effort to show that he is in charge and he tells the customer what to do. Take extra care if you are a western woman, Mr. Yassin seems to not take concerns raised by women seriously. Too bad that only after a year of opening the hostel already cannot keep up its hospitality duties and show neutrality rather than discrimination towards their customers.

If you want to live in a hostel with rude staff members, og get kicked out of the room you paid for just because they care more about money than your satisfaction. And Then stay in a moist, bad ventilated room with small beds and 12 people. In general not have a good time at all Then this place is perfect.

All was great about this place, from the friendly staff to the hostel itself. For those who do not wish to stay in center Amsterdam, this is possibly the best option. Zaandam is located 11 minutes train ride from Amsterdam Central (6 euros round trip ticket). From Zaandam station to the hostel it's a nice 10-minute walk. Breakfast is an all you can eat bread with jam, butter or cheese, and juice, tea or coffee. I got one bed on a 6-bed dormitory with kitchen and shower inside. The toilet is located outside the room. The room view from my room was really nice to a small little terrace facing the main street.

Good rooms but was still under construction. Door was not always locked. Maybe not the most secure. Polite staff and clean but no lockers for your stuff.

Good but still not best or perfect, not all personal are professionals.

Over booked, unorganized, people in my bed, different all days.

Giant construction site, the room has pretty much stunk and the Windows were closed. But otherwise super nice!

First morning the cleaning staff were somewhat hostile, toward us however that was quickly cleared up with the assistance of the manager. The rest of the stay was lovely — well located, cheap and clean. The other people in our room didn't steal our stuff and chill to talk to. The 'breakfast' is a bread with spreads and tea and coffee, so it filled a gap but don't expect gourmet meals! Well worth booking.
