Cocomama Hostel

BE AWARE: Unsafe, unclean and unprofessional place. Long story short I got my laptop stolen at this place from inside my closed suitcase which was in my locked personal room. No one of the staff could tell me how someone got inside my locked personal room and was able to open my closed suitcase to steal my laptop from it, all I got from the staff was that they when inside to clean and maybe the door did not close after them. I did not get any refund for the stolen laptop which was with all of my personal projects. I am truly disappointed from the way the staff handled this issue caused only by them, they did not take any measure to resolve this issue and after weeks of emailing them 10+ times all I got was a 50% refund of my stay which is not even a one tenth of the value of what was stolen from my PERSONAL room. If you value your safety and belongings avoid this place. The staff needs to understand that the thing that most matters is their customers. Also the photos that you find on their website are at least few years old, the rooms are way dirtier than what you will see in the photos.

The stuff was friendly and helpful, they organise events and tours. Rooms are clean, quiet place, nice breakfast offered. All were nice.

Enjoyed a private room for a few nights here and everything from checking in as well as the entire stay was delightful and pleasant. Very relaxing vibe with a homely feel. Plenty of activities available if you don’t have your own agenda. Highly recommended and would certainly stay again the next time in town!

Had a pretty good stay here for a few nights. The detractors are that bathrooms are all in the dorms, so it can be a bit of a pain if you have to wait for people to clear through the shower one at a time. Fortunately there is a single common-area toilet on the main floor. The other detractor is that the buildings doors slam quite forcefully so guests returning late can wind up making a lot of noise. That said they run awesome nightly events for guests, the common area in the basement/garden are superb, and home-made breakfast is included. I’d stay here again. Like many comments below, I got 2 or 3 mosquito bites in the night. It’s summer and the window needs to stay wide open to stay comfortable in the room. I think people complaining about bed bugs don’t know what bed bugs are or got them somewhere else.

First time travelling solo and couldn't have had a more fabulous time! Beds are super comfy, Joop is the cutest, and staff is super friendly :) If Xavier and Shea are your staff for the day, you are in fantastic hands. Shea played cards against humanities with us and when we went out to a club Xavier made sure none of us were left behind. Thanks for being a family away from home!

Absolutely fantastic! Came here for a long weekend with my friends. The team at the hostel are amazing, full of advice and ideas of things to do and go and see. There is something on every night, from pub crawls to city tours. It was a great place to stay. I would recommend for any one visiting Amsterdam!

Stayed here for Kings Day 2018. I liked that it was a little out of the main drag so you could escape the madness. Our six-person room was a little tight, especially in the mornings when everyone was trying to get ready. Not a lot of room to move around and get your things together. Beds were comfortable for a hostel and the staff was nice. Breakfast is free (and decent). House cat named Joop is super friendly.

Really friendly staff (and the cutest cat ever! ) We got there really early, and they kindly took our bags and keep them for us while the room was getting ready. We came back from a really long journey and when we got to the room, our heavy bags were already there waiting for us. That was awesome! Bed really comfortable, the duvets really warm. Our room had en-suite toilet and it was immaculate. But the coolest thing of all was… the speakers! You are able to listen to your own music just connecting your phone by Bluetooth. Really cool place, and friendly environment. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable ☺️

Nothing bad to say about this lovely clean hostel. Would definitely stay again and can recommend it as a great place for solo travellers or those who just want to meet new people.

How do I start… AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! From stepping in the door to leaving the door. This place is better than any hotel I have ever stayed in. The team at coco mama are awesome. Shae, moo all of you are just unreal and always there to help. Rooms are tidy bed is lovely. Slept right through. Free breakfast in the morning and the chance to meet some new amazing people. I 1000000% will be going back to coco mama Thank you for making us feel welcome! See you in may!

The Cocomama staff was absolutely fantastic. Nino gave us a map of the city and pointed out all the most important things to check out. The beds were the most comfortable of any hostel I've stayed in. Each bed had curtains and a light with an outlet where you could charge your phone. The beers and other snacks were not just reasonably priced, but cheap! If I ever come back to Amsterdam, this is the place I will stay. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and the atmosphere relaxed.

Both public and private rooms are exceptional. They are well kept and tidy. Bathrooms are a bit tight, but the quality of the rooms balances that. The staff are incredible, both friendly and knowledgeable. Their hostel group activities in the evenings are very varied and well worth the time.

Very friendly place. Nice clean rooms. They offer daily tours or other fun activites. Good resources about local spots. Also complementary breakfast in the morning from 9 to 11am. GET UP EARLY OR ITS GONE! No curfews just be reasonable and everyone is chill. Sweet room in the basement to just chill in. 11/10 would recommend and for what you get the price can't be beat!

One of the best hostel that I’ve stayed in! The staff are amazing (Thank you Shae, you’re amazing, hope to see you again soon! ) When she hand the map to us, she explained to us in detail about the places to visit and hangout at, which helped us a lot! They have a common area to hangout downstairs, and people can easily get along with the cosy atmosphere, they have board games which you can play together too. They also have a friendly cat that walks around (and he loves cuddles and hugs! ) Coco mama offers private and dorms (4 bed and 6 bed) and they have free breakfast every morning! I’ll definitely stay again when I visit Amsterdam. Thank you coco mama!

Stayed at wonderful Cocomama again two weeks ago. Decided to come back because a few years ago during my first visit I felt right at home! This was just what I needed after travelling for a while; an easy going and relaxed place with lots of stuff going on if you choose to participate. The staff are great and helpful as always, I discovered a few new hotspots for lunch! The kitchen and living space have been remodelled and look awesome, a nice place for some down time. Can't wait to come back soon!

Transport: Tram stop at 200m. Cleanliness: Very bad! We found hair between the sheets and the bathroom was not really as clean as you could expect. The people who run the hostel are very friendly and helpful. The hostel on the ground floor has a kitchen with common lounge for everyone. A very nice environment with canned games, TV, video games, music, books. Too bad for the cleanliness of the rooms!
