Pros: the location is quite good nearby the tram station and few miles from downtown. Also, the prices are somehow reasonable compared with Amsterdam overrated and overpriced hostels/hotels. Cons: dimensions are bad and rooms are very narrow. Probably the designer was trying to squeeze as many people as he could to maximize the profit margin and that was extremely annoying. Also, the bathroom was very very narrow in a way the you cannot turn around. The breakfast menu was also very poor and interestingly they do not serve Cheese in Amsterdam. That was disappointing and overall experience was really bad and I won’t recommend it at all.

First of all the Hotel is not Worth your money, you can book somewhere better with the same amount, theirs no towels in the room and the actual bathroom is outside the room, The people working there are not friendly they don’t even know how to welcome anyone and they are very disturbing if you want to have a relaxed morning this isn’t your place cause they’ll be shouting and slamming doors 24/7 the only good thing about this place is it’s clean and the location is really nice…

Nice place to stay if on budget near local tram stop to get to city centre but it said that it would supply towels but never had any in the room.

Although it is close to the city centre, the accommodations were scant. Small towels hidden away, no soap in the WCs. Although he was just on his phone behind the desk, were told we couldn't rent bikes for another hour and a half from them, and we should walk back to the market. Only to find it wasn't open for a while. Though the nicer staff were there at night, particularly a nice lady from the southern States, the main person we interacted with was cold and indifferent.

Amazing place set in a beautiful location. Not to close to the town center but you get to see the traditional side of Amsterdam. The room's are very nice and you have an open kitchen so you go to the shop and buy your own food and cook it at the hotel.

Love this place. It's in a nice quiet part of the city. The breakfast is good and included in the room rate. The tram is easy accessible to the city centre and Amsterdam Central.

Excellent location and the hotel is very good. Large piece with TV sink and closet. Shared bathrooms and showers. Very spacious and comfortable breakfast and very diverse and varied breakfast is self-service. You speak English. There are maps available and other brochures of various activities.

No frills, cheap, clean, perfect location and helpful hotel staff. Daunting staircase though!

Checked in no problem, staff were very friendly and made the stay unforgettable! Room and showers were a bit small but overall it was great! Things like shampoo and conditioner isn't provided and stairs were steep, but it was compensated for by free breakfast.

We went from Spain in December, and the truth is that the treatment by the staff was very good. All the rooms were clean and nice. To repeat without a doubt. A very cozy place.

Beds are neither comfortable nor hygienic. Elevator is not present so it was really hard to carry baggages. Staff wasn't very helpful except for the kind lady in the reception. Overall it is not a favorable hotel to stay.

Nice hotel with free continental breakfast (cereals, breads, hams, boiled eggs). The building seems quite old. Not well isolated for noise. There is no soap provided. Small towels. Nice location, calm and safe area. You also can ask for printing some documents for 5 cents/page.

Location relatively close to the Center and next to a quality Botanical Garden, beautiful streets in the vicinity. The staff is friendly. The Teas offered at will in the refectory pass cream after a small smoked joint at the coffeshop next door.

Average room with shower and washbasin. The toilets are on the landing.
To avoid if you were dizzy because the stairs are actually ladders.
Otherwise free coffee and tea and a will all day. Large common slab. Easy parking in front of the hotel.

It's what it is, you can't ask for a luxury hotel for what it's worth. It's a cheap and no frills accommodation but it's fine.

The hotel is very well placed, in a neighborhood with buildings of London Architecture (I find).
The hotel is clean, the warm welcome, has commendable bikes, healthy rooms, everything you can hope to have in a not-so-expensive hostel!

We have booked four rooms So what bad never seen during my travels It was not clean and there were mouse traps in the rooms The breakfast was lean the cups were not clean One of our rooms was in the attic with a miniature TV without Remote control The shower in the attic was a joke From disgusting feelings I didn't even move in the three days and I didn't even brush my teeth on the first day because I didn't want to go to the bathroom.

It's a budget place. We booked a room for three and it was the cheapest in town. There were six single beds in the room, but it was booked for us only. Helpful staff. Breakfast is OK.

Cozy place, good located (just some minutes to downtown) with a very good price value. Cool and interesting stuff, free coffee and tea all day long and one can even use the kitchen to cook own food. We stayed three nights at this Hotel, one more than we've initially planed. There's a partly covered courtyard, where we spent half the day (s) sitting there and talking to other guests and the very cool and interesting stuff. Recommend it!

Dirty apartments, with stained bedding, Windows Q can not be opened unless you put a table q have there for that. They gave us the keys in a nearby hotel without giving us explanation of the address or anything. When we arrived we found in the kitchen a box to store the food with a sign that asked us to keep food there by precaution of possible rodents. Not recommended.

Clean, 20min walk from the Red light district and friendly staff. Recommended for short stays!

Reasonably friendly staff, and clean facilities. However, there was no toilet in the bedroom — just a shower. The complimentary breakfast was a nice touch, but overall the stay did not provide value for money.

Nice pension, although the stairs were a little bit so small and steep, so recommended for young people and they have maybe a few suitcases.

Definitely a budget hotel but the staff were really friendly and the room was fine.

Incredibly overpriced (£305/€342). We were on the third floor and there is no lift. Carrying our suitcases up and down three flights of stairs was not easy. The room was not big enough to swing a cat in. The "wardrobe" was simply an empty filing cabinet with a safety deposit box only big enough to put 3-4 apples in. We were not informed beforehand that we would have to use a communal toilet and shower. The shower room was more like a prison shower with a weird mini wall jutting out for goodness knows what reason. The toilet was filthy and we used our own antibacterial wipes to clean the toilet before and after use. Only one key was given between two people with was inconvenient when one person left the room alone the other needed to stay behind to let the other back in. On one occasion, a man entered the room without permission, then he simply walked back out. Early one morning during our stay, an alarm blared loudly for several minutes which woke up not only us but other guests. The alarm would go off then restart after a few minutes. A good point of the hotel is that it is very close to the botanical gardens and close to a small park. Only one member of staff was ever seen; she was friendly and helpful. Overall: not worth the money.

As soon as we arrived we felt welcome and at ease. The atmosphere is very freindly and the rooms and very clean. Kelly was very nice to everyone that she spoke to and is easy to talk to. It is in a good location, we didn't have to walk far to find what we were looking for. Would love to stay here again if I come back to the area.

Right Hotel for young boys.

I been in better hostels in my life. The staff/owner was not very helpful and I will certainly never stay here again! The only plus side of this place is that it is in a great neighbourhood.

Staff rude, rooms basic, no towels, no hangers, no iron everything seemed like a task for the staff, I would not return if it was last hotel in Amsterdam! Avoid at all costs!

The hotel is very excellent in every respect. Is located in the most beautiful places in the world that will certainly not be reduced. We have 20 years to come to Bora Bora, there is no "waste" to set a water House-Nice we ordered this time. For Americans (Yes that is you), there may be some cultural do not dock, but if you go to Europe, then you will know what will happen. I suggest you relax, enjoy-you will love it here in heaven.

Good for the location and unassuming dorm at relatively low price. Wi-Fi, breakfast, ok, not great cleaning.

Good place. I stayed there in a 6 people room with some friends for 2015 Kingsday and it was a good experiencie. Rooms are big and clean, and beds are confortable. Showers should be better prepared, tough, as water could easilly drop onto the bedroom floor. It was about 15 minuts from city center, which was great.

I've stayed maybe 30 times at the Hortus. If I had to go back to Amsterdam now, I'd book a room there without hesitating a second. The Hortus doesn't provide the lavish experience of 4 start hotels, it doesn't shower guests with rose petals and silk drapes, sure, but the staff is competent, friendly, it's always clean and to put it simply, I've never had a bad experience there. It's also fairly priced and the location is awesome, right next to the botanical garden and very close to Amsterdam Centraal and Niewmaarkt. Best bang for the buck in Amsterdam, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the Hortus.

It was my 3rd time staying at this hotel and as always it was great. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and also very good company, the "American" boy who works there at night was very nice. It has an excellent location, very quiet area surrounded by parks and canals but only a 10 minute walk to the center. The room was very clean, sheets and towels were provided and breakfast was also good. They did me a huge favor by letting me keep my luggage there whilst I went on a festival which was very nice of them, I will def. Recommend this place to anyone I know going to Amsterdam.
