A cute little hotel with traditional Japanese rooms. There is a maiko (giesha) performance on Thursday and Saturday, which is worth seeing.
Pros: Very good location. A short walk away from Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park, and within the walking distance to Gion, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Nishiki Market, and other shrines and temples in the Gion area. The place were clean and well-kept. Owner and staffs were very welcoming and tried their best to make my stay comfortable. They occasionally hold some special events; I was fortunate to be able to enjoy an hour of real maiko performance, complimentary to all staying guests. Will definitely return. Cons: Quite far from the nearest train station (1.2 km). No meals are provided. Dinner might not be that much of an issue as there are many good restaurants nearby, but the options for breakfast are limited. They did provide complimentary instant noodles, packaged sandwich, snacks, and fruits. I saved those for breakfast for the next morning.

Simply the best. You feel the warm and welcoming service. Everyone is very friendly, approachable, extremely polite, attentive, thoughtful! The room is spacious and very clean. The Japanese futon was and still is, the most comfortable place I have ever slept in! It never hurt my back like the other beds in other hotels I have stayed. Oh and how I love their sweet golden retrievers! I am running out of good words to say! I have been to Kyoto 3 times within 2 years, and Gion Sano was the last place I stayed in Kyoto. I really wish I had known her sooner because I would have stayed there every single night! I will definitely stay there again when I go back!
