As I entered, the clerk was kind and felt good. Because it is a room for 3 people, it feels bigger than a double room. The bedside of the room is the bedside of the double room next to it, so if you speak louder next door, you will listen very clearly. Feel the soundproofing is not very good.
In addition, the room, there is a smell of smoke, in the toilet is particularly obvious. Location is good.

Location and room size are very good, counter service staff is also very nice, the second floor breakfast is also very rich, only the bathroom washbasin will float bad taste, is really the beauty, but it is worth visiting again!

Passengers beware: This hotel's cancellation policy is very harsh and unreasonable!
It takes five days to cancel the order, a few days before the most Kyoto hotel, if your order is two nights, three nights or four nights, will be all deducted, a $ refund!
I booked the hotel for 29/3 to 31/3/2018 two nights in Hong Kong time 25/3 23:15 Cancel the order, the results were deducted hk$3, 600.
Even the second night of the room, still not due! I hope you can book this hotel, be careful to avoid falling into the trap!

The hotel is fine. The location is good, there’re many restaurants and bars around it. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is the typical small Japanese bathroom. Good price-quality ratio.

Room was very small. They charge extra for cleaning towels (300¥ each in spring 2018) and extra on top of that to have someone clean the room. The bedsheets were not fitted in our room, so they kept coming off in our sleep, and we found ourselves waking up on the bare mattress. The service was okay. They young man at the front desk made an error when filling out the form to ship our bags to the next destination, but the company that ships them caught it and fixed the issue, honoring the price he quoted. There are three laundry machines on the sixth floor. They aren't monitored, I found another guest taking the laundry out of my machine and putting it in a bag (the cycle had just finished). Still, pretty cheap place and is fairly conveniently located if you can put up with these kinds of things, makes sense. I probably won't stay there again.

Very nice hotel. Stayed in a western room which was quite big. Location is quite good, short walk from a big shopping area and tube station.

I would give them zero if I could. They claim to have air conditioning in every room. Although that is technically true, you can only use it during the months they feel are worth it. Anything else? Too bad. You want to use the TV and not be stuck watching Japanese programs? Tough luck. They blocked the HDMI ports and refuse to unblock it. Staff barely capable of speaking standard English and will charge you for every single extra thing you require. This is the worst hotel I have done in my month so far travelling Japan. Do not book. Will be making a complaint via Expedia as well.

We walked from the train station to this hotel it wasn't too far and it is in a great location for public transport and food it is also a 5 minute walk from a fantastic shopping district.

For small stops and rest in the evening is more than good, of course the rooms only the usual, small and with all the comforts. It is on one of the main streets so easy to find. Beware when you book from external portals because they could reserve some nice surprises.

Comfy room and big if we go by japanese standards. Spent 2 nights there. Plenty of busses right on the door. You have bus 26 in front of the hotel that takes you directly to the Kyoto Shinkansen Station, which is quite awesome and saves you money in taxi. It's a bit far away from the old Kyoto part, but nothing that can't really be solved by a bus or metro trip.

Small but clean rooms. Windows can be shadowed good for day sleeping. No noises from other rooms. Conditioner is working very well, fastly warming all room. Breakfast is +1000yen per day, but delicious and all you can eat system. You need to give away the key on the reception while traveling. The place is conveniently situated.

Great location: only a couple of bus stops away from shopping district and Kyoto station. Area was quiet and the room was quite nice.

Two years of second stay, a few helpful, hotel functions and counter staff service attitude is very good, if you want to save money in the accommodation are very recommended!

Central Hotel that does not stand out precisely for its facilities or for its relation quality-price. Good to stay one or two nights.

Then the hotel did not provide mineral water, even room service is not, it is too silly bathroom small to no, expensive and not excellent on each floor there are adult film voucher vending machine, is not motel, looks very cheap.

Never lived in a restaurant. Homestay is not to provide air conditioning, can only open windows to feed mosquitoes, it is really exaggerated that there is no way to live people. After the doors and windows closed, the air was completely unable to circulate a strong sense of suffocation, which was unbearable. The good evaluation on the network conjecture should be to ask people to water, Agoda booking site should also bear the responsibility of inspection, step on the mine is really unhappy, the family complained to explode. Even mineral water is not provided without the spirit of good service in Japan.

Good amènities, the rooms are good size for Japan. They don't have lockers in the rooms.

Everything is OK considering that high season…

Very good service and twin bed room was comfy, spacious and clean. Staff spoke good English and kept our luggage there whilst we explored the castle after checking out. Would highly recommend.

Two-person room with breakfast, the price is about 1000, very good value, the distance from the four station of the Wu shot about 5 minutes walk, walk to a park about 20 minutes, the living function is good, opposite there are 24 hours of supermarkets.

Pros: Like most hotels in Japan, their rooms are tiny. This one actually has the biggest room among the three different hotel chains I have stayed at. Cons: Hotel is very old. The amenities are very limited and old. My room smelled like cigarette smoke.

Don't stay at this hotel. The staff are friendly, but the rooms are appalling. The standard double room is a small double bed in one corner with 1.2m space on two sides. Within this space is a cabinet for the TV, kettle, etc. The bathroom is also very compact. The Air conditioning only heats. When the window is opened to cool the room it I too noisy to sleep. I checked out a day early as I could bear it no longer.

The Smile Hotel Kyoto Shijo is a very good hotel. The staff is very nice and speaks English. The hotel itself is quiet in the center of Kyoto. It only takes a 30min walk to the station and 5min to next busstop. Our room is small (but maybe this is a common size in Japan), but clean and has everything you need and more. I recommend a stay in this hotel to everyone, who wants a western style business hotel in Japan.

Far from station considering if u bring luggages, its about 7-10 mins walk. But hotels has easy access (elevator from entrance). Laundry — 2 x washing machine & 2 dryer are quite old and busy. Had to come back many times before got a chance to use it. Lobby area was big, have free coffee machine, room was clean. Stayed in Queen sized bed, it was okay.

Rooms are quaint and kept clean. Front staff is very friendly, though be ready to leave your key with them every time you leave the hotel.

Small rooms like any other hotel in Japan. But overall a great hotel, with friendly, helpful staff. And the location can not be beat. It's in the middle of one of the biggest shopping areas in Kyoto. Everything walking distance.

Good location, in the center of Kyoto near Karasuma. The room is wide, taking into account that it is Japan and is very clean. Recommended.

Got a triple room. It's spacious comparing to other japanese hotel I have been to.

Good location for tourists. Walkable to tram, subway, market, supermarket, and even JR line (a little further). Taxis frequent the street in front. While still a little outside and is quieter. The triple room is large by American standard; and is huge by Japanese standard. Recommended for family of up to 4 or 5; or group of 4 adults. Each will get a double bed. The service is good as expected by Japanese that means better than half of the rest of the world. Though the "concierge" is just a front desk personnels doing extras. Which means they don't actually make reservations or call places and be your interpreters; the much needed services when you don't speak Japanese beyond yes, no, and thank you.

The hotel room is very nice and clean, nothing too fancy which is nice. The Wi-Fi and LAN have been fast and reliable and overall it has been a very nice stay.

OK hotel. The location is cental to sight seeing, close to subway (6mins) walk and there is a bus stop close by. Breakfast buffet is overpriced at about $15 USD. We paid for a superior queen room but the room is smaller than expected from the pictures but pretty stanadard. The room feels worn, there are scuff marks on the walls. The bathroom is standard but the shower head isnt very secure in its rest so it will rotate to the left or right which can be annoying. The reception is on the 2nd floor so that means that elevator stops there every time. Check-in was quick and efficient and friendly. We stayed early March and if I had to do it all over again I wouldnt pay the room rate that included breakfast and I would only stay if the average rate was below $100 USD.

Despite the silly logo, the hotel is very modern, Western style, clean and well located. It's an easy 10-15 minute bus from Kyoto Station and two minutes from several subway. They have a coin laundry, ala carte breakfast and helpful staff.
