The staff is prepared, kind and helpful.
Only flaw, precisely because inside the caves, in the rooms there is a lot of moisture and despite being equipped with dehumidifier you can smell a strong smell of mold especially at night on mattresses and pillows.

Hotel located in the stone with beautiful views, spacious and tastefully furnished room. Unfortunately very humid room despite the dehumidifier and this also spoils the interior and does not make the environment very comfortable. Unimpeachable service, convenient parking transfer and friendly and professional staff. Great breakfast with local produce. Price adjusted for the services offered.

Definitely one of the best hotels you can find in central Matera. Reasonably priced. Great location. Great view. Friendly staff… very accommodating. Highly recommended!

Flooring too dark always looks dirty. Shower was actually moldy, humid rooms.

Great experience. The atmosphere at Hotel Basilian is magical. Tradition and modernity are skilfully interwoven. Relaxing stay in the evocative and unique landscape of the Sassi, with a look at the Belvedere of the Murge. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast and the cleanliness of the room. Without listing all the good things about this place, I prefer to tell you only what for me does not go and that is that the maintenance of the rooms is not enough, I can understand the humidity since we are in the cave but broken tiles, bathroom furnishings hairpieces, mirror and Ruined Faucets No. Too bad! The hotel has huge potential.

I'd put 10 stars. 5 are few! the kindness of the staff surprised us. Almost embarrassing. Wonderful people! Clean rooms. Fantastic location. Exquisite breakfast.

Great hotel, preferable without doubt if you stay in Matera. Located in the Sassi, in a great location and immersed in tranquillity. Excellent service, rooms more than cozy.

It was a great weekend. We stayed at this wonderful property, all excellent, excellent hospitality, comfortable and clean rooms, super breakfast. What to say I recommend.

Nice breakfast Place At the payment of the tourist tax I ask for 15 euros more for bringing the dog with us… A Chihuahua. Thing that in many hotels I never and never paid for… Luckily I did not pay because they did not tell me. Anyway nice place really competent and kind staff.

Beautiful cave type hotel with remarkable views — Highly recommended.

A hotel in the Sassi that allows you to live the experience of "living" in one of the characteristic houses of Matera once. The furnishings are design but the contrast between the history and the modern is pleasant. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The structure, being in clear Ztl, offers a free shuttle service (only for the days of arrival and departure) to reach your car. Parking is available, even free of charge about 1km from the hotel. From the hotel it is possible to dive directly into the alleys of Sassi for a tourist visit or to reach one of the many restaurants in the area.

Nice buildings. Hotel looks well. Unfortunate lack of facilities in the hotel and grounds. In the rooms the information booklets were old and had prices no longer valid. Including the day spa and indoor pool. The price listed was €20 per day. This was changed to €20 for 90 minutes and €10 per hour after. Breakfast in the hotel left a lot to be desired. Eggs being burned and gone cold. Coffee machines unserviced and burning the coffee. Though reported went unfixed. Lunch in the hotel seems good on paper. €20 per person is a reasonable price for A La Carte. On arrival the menu is a buffet. Left out. Pasta and sauces turned gelatenous and the food not very warm. Though on the plans access to rooms from the main building and reception looks easy. Moving from building to building is precarious as the ground is uneven with many levels. Not for the elderly or unstable and most certainly not for wheelchair users. My mother inlaw fell twice. Outside of the spa in the hotel there is an unguarded change of levels poorly lit like most of the corridors in the hotel. A drop of only a couple of inches but enough to cause a fall and injury Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Although check in time though requested for 2pm was after 5pm. With checkout at 10am. Begs to question why the hotel need 7 hours to clean the rooms. Which brings me to the room cleaning. We stayed for 3 nights. At time of leaving we had 3 days worth of towels left on our bathroom floor.

We had two nights in Basiliani Hotel, perfectly located in the mind-blowing Sassi of Matera. The room we stayed in was simple but had been partly excavated out of the rocky hillside of Sassi Caveoso, the most ancient part of the famous UNESCO World Heritage site. While the shower was a bit limp, and some of the plasterwork was prone to flaking, it was pretty amazing staying in a unique place like that. The staff also deserve a lot of credit. The two guys who staffed reception were massively helpful and really helped make our trip with some great advice. Matera is quite a confusing place, a total labyrinth full of spectacular views. With their orientation we made the most of it. Next time I'd just check what other accommodation is available because this wasn't cheap and the room itself was pretty basic. But I've no complaints and the location alone made this a really memorable two days.

Large and spacious rooms in the modernly decorated Sassi. Clean, good breakfast with sweet and savoury choice, quiet rooms with independent entrances. Very friendly staff. Easy to get to from the covered parking lot behind square pastures. The staff will reach and accompany you without any problems.

Imagine the old stone walls, the rooms floor of the cave, the modern interior! Clean, cozy and authentic! I admire the hotel and the city as a whole.

From here you will reach all the sites you can visit. Very friendly and helpful staff, gave great recommendations for dinner. The rooms carved into the stones are a spectacle, requiring a minimum of adaptation.

Brilliants place — rooms right inside the mountain caves, yet super comfy and beautifully made. Really good breakfast for Italy!

Very well indeed! Location of Hotel among the best in Matera, whose center is very close and taverns close, suggested by the high level Manager Giuseppe obliging, with very interesting price/quality ratio. Breakfast rich in quality and quantity with reliable local produce. Comfortable dwelling. Those who want to visit Matera, must do before a thought at this location. We were guests of the hotel Basiliani for three nights and wanted to emphasize the courtesy and helpfulness of the owner in the US. The hotel has a unique location and it is exciting to stay here. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I would like to thank you for welcoming us with infinite heat.
