Reykjavik Downtown HI Hostel Hostel

Very good location, just in Reykjavik downtown. Close to the main street, with a lot of very nice restaurants, shops, attractions, the pier, the Harpa, and the bus stop. Rooms are ok, with a good and clean bathroom. The kitchen is in different building, behind the reception building. The have a small bar where they serve a small and expensive breakfast which is a shame it’s not included, since everything in Iceland is quite expensive. At the front desk the staff is really helpful and nice, they help me with three tours I booked through them. They can’t help you with the Blue Lagoon tour, you have to do by yourself or in another tourist office. This a safe place, but if your are looking for fun, fun is zero here.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was very cute, clean and quiet. It was in a great location near bus stops, restaurants and museums. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for an extended time during a school trip and I have to say my stay was very enjoyable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I've noticed they handle any situation with patience and a smile. Amenities include a shared kitchen so you can save money eating in Iceland (which you want to do it's expensive to do anything here) and a washer and dryer. It was 1400 (about $14 use) krona to run a full load so you'll want to make sure it's worth it. There is a breakfast you can purchase, compared to the rest of the city the price isn't terrible. Usually includes coffee, milk, juice, yogurt, fruit, sliced cucumber or tomato, and a bagel bar. Location isn't bad. The main streets with tourist shops is near by. There are at least 3 grocery stores in walking distance and plenty of museums and restaurants. There are also shuttles and tour buses, some of which you can book with the hostel.

The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. The breakfast was simple but filling. The kitchen facilities were also clean, well organized, and well stocked. It is also wonderfully located right downtown. Everything we wanted to see was about a 10 minute walk away max. All in all it was a perfect place to begin our stay in Iceland.

I had a fantastic experience at this hostel and it's actually been my favorite hostel to stay at in the world so far. Super friendly and accommodating staff and any questions I had never went unanswered. Lots of reccomendations from the staff on places to go see or eat and things to go do :)

Great little hostel in a good location in central Reykjavik, close to airport bus pickup spot and reasonably priced. Rooms are clean and well designed, and staff are friendly and helpful! Would definitely go back anytime.

Very clean and peaceful, the bedding was so comfy. Location is perfect walking distance to everything and easy pick-up and drop-off from excursions. So happy I chose this hostel to be able to still go out at night with friends and make new friends but also have a quiet clean and comfy room to come back to when I needed some good rest. Will be back for sure!

Great hostel. Clean, comfy and convenient! I stayed at girls’ dorm for 3 nights. Although there were 10 people in a room, we didn’t bother each other. There are lockers in the room to store the valuables. It’s close to the bus station no. 4 where all the pickups for tours happen. The common area is nice also with good music and lighting. The kitchen is big and has everything I needed. Overall, good experience!

Clean and new, we stayed in a four bed room, the room is spacious. However, the kitchen is outside the building, for you have to walk out in the snowy. Nt. The space is very comfortable, but the kitchen is outside, snowy days still have to tread carefully snow and ice walk past, actually inconvenient.

Great place, clean simple accommodations close to everything. Enjoyed staying there.

Really great price point but it was a very independent style hostel so if you're looking for the mingle aspect you won't find it here. But clean and definitely worth the price. Perfect location!

Great hostel to stay for a couple. Friendly staff, clean rooms and all the amineties you need. Shame there was construction work going on across the road…

A very nice place with low temperature.

Personal we had to move the furniture, the bed was under the window much too cold, the staff is nice this is what is worth the two stars. I do not appreciate much to share the toilets and showers.

Super friendly and helpful staff! The room is spacious. Toilet is clean. Complimentary breakfast is adequate and yummy! The only drawback is the not-so-clean bed sheet. You may ask for change if you really can't accept it.

This hostel is amazing! I’m staying in a room with other 9 people. We have access to this amazing kitchen that has everything you need including free food left but other visitors. It is clean and the Wi-Fi is fast. The location is very convenient. It’s 5’ walking to bus station which is one place where most of tour companies pick you up from. There are many restaurants and bars close by.

We stayed one night in a shared room, and two in a private room. Bit experiences were wonderful. Staff is super friendly and very helpful. The rooms and restrooms are very clean. And as advertised, they try really hard to reduce waist. Highly recommend!

They messed up our booking and put us up in private rooms for no extra cost. Nice view, well-situated with all the amenities. Solid Wi-Fi, showers, clean and with comfy beds. Also very safe!

Excellent stay. Beds are comfortable. We stayed on 4th floor and there was a bathroom with shower and a second bath with no shower. Quiet and comfy. I would recommend. Convenient to many downtown restaurants and entertainment.

Clean rooms and decent breakfast, good location (walking distance from the bus station, lake, town-center) and helpful staff. I Found it a bit distasteful that they charge extra for keeping your bag in their storage room while you go hiking (even when you have another night booked later), but other than that would recommend the place.

I landed early in the morning and made it to the hostel around 7.30am. Check in didn't start until 14.00, and even though they didn't have to, one of the clerks was kind enough to let me store my bags with them and crash on a bench for a bit. I got a dorm room with breakfast included, and it easily lasted me through dinner. Considering how expensive food and drink can be in the city, this was a huge plus. There's a separate building for cooking and storing your own food in back if you prefer. The rooms were clean and quiet with only a few on each floor. Each floor also has a free book exchange with multiple languages represented. It is also centrally located near the old harbor, which made everything well within walking distance. Overall, I had a good experience, and would definitely stay here again.

Loved it. This place is very well kept up, not too cramped, and definitely inviting. Everybody speaks English, the beds have sheets on em, the free Wi-Fi works, and people seemed friendly. The location is perfect, and o wouldn't consider trying to stay anywhere else next time I'm in Reykjavik.

This hostel is very disappointing. We took last minute a huge room for 2 at £105 for the night. You expect your stay to be a little bit fancy right? We had to make our own beds literally. Never saw that in any hotel or hostel I took at that price! There is no soap at all and the check out is at 10am instead of 11am like most places. Very bad value for money if you take a private room.

Hostal clean. The only bad thing is that they put us in a room overlooking a construction and we could not close one of the windows. For the rest all good. Friendly service and everything very clean.

Great location. There are showers on the rooms. The bunk beds are confortable and the breakfast is pretty good. Even though I would recomend the city hostel more than this one it is great.

I love this place. Clean rooms, with large in-suite bathrooms. Super friendly staff, they are super helpful. After the airline delayed my luggage and had it shipped here, they reassured me they would sign for it and receive it. I really like their separate kitchen and lounge area, perfect for when you want to have a quiet dinner and just chill, read or study.

Clean, centrally located and super friendly staff. We loved our stay and it was cheap (ISK 5000/night in a private 4 person room) compared to other options in the area. Breakfast is a skip (ISK 1550) for the price but other than that would totally stay here again!

Beautiful hostel, one of the best in town.

Amazing hostel experience — my wife and I shared a private room here on our honeymoon. Our room even included a private bath! The location is on a quiet street but very close to the downtown area with shopping and restaurants. The breakfast options were good and the rooms were very clean. They also had a room to store our bags while we went on an overnight tour in the countryside.

Staying at the Reykjavik Downtown Hostel was all in all a very positive experience. It is placed very centrally in Reykjavik, and close to the bus station for busses going to the airport. The room we stayed in worked like a hotel, as we had room and toilet/bathing facilities for ourselves. The breakfast which was included in our reservation was quite sufficient for when you're going out in the wild. Lastly, the staff was very helpful regarding what to do and see. I'll stay there again next time.

The people who run the hostel are super friendly and very helpful. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask them. The private rooms rival many normal hotel rooms. Breakfast here is superb.

I was in a group of 8 so most of the beds in the room were full every night. Even though there wasn't a great common area this was one of the most spacious rooms I saw my whole trip. Some one came in everyday and changed the furniture and art everyday.

First experience in a hostel. Staff were friendly and helpful. Kitchen was good because eating out is expensive in Reykjavik. Very clean and nice. I really enjoyed my stay here.
