Review of Steigenberger Hotel Köln 4*

This hotel is probably one of the worst I've stayed at and I stay in hotels probably 20-30 nights a year at least. This was listed as a 4 star hotel and is so far from that its a joke. Already a huge list of stuff ups, the first room they offered me smelled of mould and dust, the second room they put me in was an "upgrade" at extra cost. The king size bed was like laying on concrete with squeaky springs so the beds haven't been changed probably for decades, there were actually no sheets, and there were two single bed blankets on the bed they did not have a king size bed cover! Lucky I am travelling alone or it would just be hilarious! Next, the housekeeping only seems to operate for about 2-3 hours a day and if you sleep in they leave a note and thats it. No return visit in the afternoon like every other hotel on the planet. Then theres the Wi-Fi-, horrible reception, complained countless times and they offered to restart the router and it worked for half an hour before cutting out again. Poor 3G reception also so I had to stand at the window just to get any reception since I couldn't rely on their free Wi-Fi! Next, the "fitness centre" consists of two treadmills, a weight bench and. Wait for it. A rock. Thats it. No weights, but a big rock that I guess is what you are supposed to train with?! Using one of the treadmills the belt kept slipping and I nearly fell off and broke my neck, so I unplugged it and reported to reception they didn't seem to care. On top of all of this the hotel images are total lies, there are stains all over the carpets and there is a smell throughout the hotel that reeks. There is a random noise that comes from the drain in the bathroom every couple of hours and if you forget to close the bathroom door at night you will get woken up. The lobby area suggests it "might" be okay, but when you get up to the hallways and room you are taken back to the 70's and nothing has been updated or cleaned since. Good location. Great staff. horrible hotel. This building should be demolished and I am not being dramatic. I absolutely do not recommend staying here.
