Black Sheep Hostel

Romms were alright. Nothing special but clean. Service was polite and helpful. However, surroundings were quite loud making it almost impossible to find a good rest.

Straightforward. Simple but practical. Very friendly, incessant and cooperative personnel.
I felt very comfortable.

Great hostel, very basic but good location! Although I was told I could park here there is no where to park on site. And it cost me more to park then to stay at the hostel.

Location is very good. Its near the university so there are a lot of young people in that area. The rooms were clean. The bathrooms were ok. Not the best ever, but if you consider the price-quality is acceptable. Staff was wonderful! And I met great people there!

Cancelled my booking for the spurious reason that another group from England had made a booking on the same weekend. Apparently that made us a large group. Also shrugged their shoulders about the fact that I'd paid a deposit through hostelworld as it wasn't their problem.

First, the positive:
All rooms are furnished differently, for example, so there are. A space on the subject of Cologne, the ocean, Africa and so on. There is also free Wi-Fi, which also has a decent speed.
The rooms are large enough and there are also lockers and enough power outlets.
negative:
Unfortunately, not so much emphasis has been placed on cleanliness. The showers are dirty and you can already see the mold. It didn't look much better with the toilets either.
There was also dirt on the floor in the contentpatch/breakfast room. I do not understand the problem being to take a vacuum cleaner in my hand. Even at breakfast, you should just put a spoon into the glasses, so that not everyone drives into the jam with their knife.
At the end of the day, I think it's a shame, because the real problems could be fixed with little human resources. But apparently there is not much emphasis on that.

This hostel is not secure at all. I stayed two nights. I saw some homeless people were crashing on the couch in the common areas (kitchen) every night. The entrance pin is fixed number and easy to remember. It might be the reason. There is no security cam / security staff during the whole night. Also, the beds and linens are horrible! Must be renewes asap. The only positive thing is staff which they are so helpful.

Highly recommend this is not a hotel but a hostel, sheets that dry in the hallway the beds are not made, the cleanliness leaves really to be desired… no toilet in any of the rooms… no twin beds but bunk beds 4 or 6 per Cham Bre, a decoration really to redo blinds that do not work and therefore the building opposite plunges directly into the rooms, sanitary not maintained… The common kitchen obsolete with pans to throw: a certain lack of hygiene, despite a staff " Nice "who tries to pass the disappointment when we discover the place and as we can not be reimbursed by telling them, we are trapped, we stay, but very frustrated because taken for C… s plus it is expensive, very expensive considering the service offered! To avoid absolutely.

Toilet and showers a disaster.

It is a good place for students and maybe young people who are fancy partying all the night as is located very close to pubs and restaurants. The rooms are small and terribly stinky. First night we spent in 8-pers room with snoring people, with all stinky shoes left close to your head as people don't use the lockers (1€). The second night we moved to "better room" located on the opposite site. It was impossible to sleep, the noise from the street is terrible, its like your bed located on the street. You can close the window as the smell inside the room is too strong and disgusting. So even it is good priced and well located place don't expect any sleep.

Bons quartos, espaçosos e agradáveis. A área social é boa, mas são poucos banheiros e localizados no fundo do hotel. No meu quarto, de frente para rua, ouvia-se muito claramente o trem passando a cada dois ou três minutos, mas isso não é um problema se você não tiver sono leve. Recomendo.

Stayed in the ocean room, which had fantastic decoration. Staff was very nice, good breakfast, secure location, well priced. I'd definitely go back.

Awesome hostel to stay in, a little bit far from city center.

We travelled as a group and because of that had the whole room for ourselves, without any stranger sleeping our room. The staff or as they like to call themselves — "sheperds" were friendly and tried to keep the toilets, showers and other public rooms clean at all times. Though in the kitchen everything (for example, the tupperwear) seemed a little dirty and old. The hostel itself is located in very noisy place, so in the night it was almost impossible to sleep with an ipen window, but if the window was closed, it got stuffy really fast. All in all the experience was not great, but it is a ok place to stay if you are on a budget.

Good hostel with a homely, and a bit shabby, flair. Rooms are clean and included breakfast is really nice. Wifi though, is only available in the rooms and not in the common room.

It has a good location and the rooms are OK, but the included breakfast should be of a little better quality and not the first price of the REWE store just in front of the hostel.

I had a paid reservation and my flight arrived very late, arrive at 12 am, the hostel was closed, they close at 11, nobody opened up to me and even call and no one answered the phone, I had to pay for a night in another place and this came out completely out of my budget and plans. It is not possible to a hostel that you can't get to the 12 am.

Good location, friendly — helpful staff, small room although it was clean, food was okay.

The second star the check only the kindness of the staff. The worst hostel I've ever set foot. Dirty, smelly, and for our service really expensive! (I paid for 1 night in the mixed dorm well 29 €, price of gold to be a dive! ). They say that breakfast is included but not cooked, you should make yourself; no problem, when you see how food is stored, or you will go hungry or you decide to spend two euros a Mc Café downstairs. Escape!

I had to stay at this hostel for a few days until I got my room on cologne. It wasn't good. Although staff was nice, the showers were terribly weak and small (at least the male showers). The Wi-Fi was terrible and breakfast was basic. They didn't even prepare it. It's location isn't bad though, just 11 blocks away from the city center. I find the price compared to other much better hostels quite high (also considering the poor service they offer).

The worst hostel I have been in Germany, do not have a microwave in the kitchen, if by casual you can take a room to share, you are afraid for your rest, because the owners can get to people at 4am (this has happened to me, my). Showers mixed and a pitiful state of beds, chairs, etc…

The place reminded me as if I was still back in school. Everything was so child-like. The dorms have names like 'Princess room' or 'Sheep-room' or something like that. I also disliked the trams, running through the street, next to the hostel. By the way, one night here is about 20€, and there are several hotels around, incl. Breakfast-buffet for about 30€.

It's simple but it works. You get a bed in the middle of town at a very reasonable price. Breakfast is as basic as it gets, but you can add to it what you feel like. Kitchen/social area is great for meeting new people and getting to know new cultures and languages and cuisines. Staff is friendly, and the place is generally clean compared to most other hostels I've been in. Would absolutely recomend it to anyone wanting to experience Köln — on a budget or not.

I'm living in cologne for years and this hostel is as close to the city as it can be. From "barbarossaplatz" — where it is located to — trams take you wherever you want in a few minutes. The student's area with all the bars and stuff is less than 3 minutes away by feet. For having a good party just take tram 12 or 15 to friesenplatz and change onto line 3 or 4 to ehrenfeld. Get off at venloerstr. /gürtel. Then ask the people there where to go. When you are next to the burger king you're not far away of some fine party locations. Just ask you through.

Totally centrally located. Super clean! Beautiful Rooms. Very nice staff. Washrooms clean and nice. Free Internet and Frühwstück. Very, very recommended!

Dont come here alone unless you are very experienced with hostels. Free coffee and breakfast is good, and it is extremely cheap to stay. Looks seedy from the outside and there is little to no security.
