Our stay at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe April 21-23, 2018 was not what I’ve come to expect from Marriott hotels and after this experience am ending my Marriott rewards membership to go with another company. The events of the morning of 23 April 2018 cemented that sentiment, when the cab driver ordered and reserved by the concierge at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe physically assaulted and robbed us. This was supposed to be a special trip to Paris celebrating my mom’s birthday, and this various experiences at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe made the trip anything but wonderful for her. She has bruising on her legs and knees, from an attack she encountered with a complete stranger. A stranger that we only encountered based off of a recommendation/reservation made by the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe staff. I feel completely violated and betrayed by this entire experience because upon selecting your hotel, I entrusted the safety and well-being of me and my mom with the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe. That entrustment was also extended to the recommendations and services made by the Renaissance staff. It was my understanding that the hotel used only reputable drivers who had been properly screened to ensure the safety of their guests. However, based on this taxi trip it doesn’t seem as though my safety or my mom’s was of any concern to the Renaissance staff! After this ordeal the Renaissance staff called to apologize and take action against the cab company, which will help to ensure future guests do not have a similar experience. However, it does little in terms of the traumatic experience my mom and I suffered at the hands of this cab driver or the fact that my mom's birthday was ruined and she’s now terrified to ever return to Paris. The concierge staff is normally a guest’s connection and introduction to an areas culture as well as the steward for their well-being. In past Marriott stays at other locations, my concierge team would I help me navigate the country by making me aware of areas to avoid, local customs/practices, providing directions and safety tips, etc. This same level of care and concern was not my experience with the concierge team at Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe. If you’re traveling to Paris and expect to receive 5-star service, my recommendation would be not to stay at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe. The service there is far from top tier, and the hotel does not have practices in place that ensure your safety and well-being during your visit.
